We did the ATV trip and it was amazing! We departed from the Hilton. Manoel is the greatest guide on earth. So engaging and he really makes you feel like part of the island. I would do this trip again in a minute.
Mana was our guide and her was amazing! Very charismatic and knowledgeable! Truly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend this company! Make sure you request Mana as your guide! You won’t be disappointed!
We booked the ATV island tour while staying at the Hilton - Moorea. Our guide was Mana and he was FANTASTIC! We drove the ATVs right from the resort and back. I cannot say enough good things about this experience. We saw Belvedere, river eels, the juice factory, the pineapple plantation, and saw the beauty of the island up close. Mana was very knowledgeable both the island, its history, the flora and fauna. He pointed out different fruit trees, showed us how they use different parts of trees to make traditional polynesian wear, and gave us plenty of opportunities to take lots of pictures of the island. He also made sure to stop periodically and offered to take pictures of person/couple with the points of interest in the background. It was by far one of the best excursions we had in French Polynesia. I would highly recommend Moorea Mahana tours to anyone visiting the area.
We did the safari Jeep tour with Mana and would highly recommend this excursion to anyone who wants to see the island. Going up the mountains and through the pineapple fields is incredibly beautiful - it will likely be raining but take in all the lush greenery around and you will not mind. The river eels were awesome and not like anything I’ve seen before. Would definitely book with them again!
The uniqueness of Moorea is the combination of turquoise lagoon and green inland. The 4x4 Safari Tour we took was the perfect way to explore the rich vegetation and wide variety of fruits in More. The 3.5h tour was greatly enhanced by our guide Mana. He loves his island and is able to share his passion to the tourists: we stopped at almost every other fruit tree where he not only showed us the local produce but explained the usage and application for the locals. This allowed us to better understand the culture and the close relationship between Polynesia people and nature. If you book 4x4 Safari Tour, ask for Mana!
We booked a whale watching and snorkeling trip with Mo'orea Mahana Tours while staying at the Mo'orea Hilton. It was a group excursion and prices were very reasonable. The captain and first mate picked us and a few other couples up at the hotel dock and off we went.
Our main goal was to swim with the humpback whales but the water on our side of the island was a bit rough. The captain promised he'd do everything he could to help us see a humpback whale and also get in the water with them if the conditions were safe... And he absolutely delivered.
Not 10 minutes into the boat ride, he spotted a mama whale and her baby in a bay. We were able to watch them from afar but not get in the water as the bay is a protected space for the whales. Just watching them alone was a really cool experience.
The captain then took us out past the drop off and around the island, which offered a breathtaking view of Mo'orea. Once the waves calmed on the other side of the island, the captain spotted another mama and baby whale and let us know that it was time to get in the water. We were instructed to get into our gear quickly and quietly, and the captain explained some safety measures to us -- primarily that we had to stay together out in the water.
The boats are not allowed to get close to the whales in the ocean so they had to drop us off a little more than 100M away, and we swam the distance to the whales. The water is cool and it is definitely open ocean swimming, so it may be challenging if you're not a strong swimmer. However, the first mate always swims with a boogie board and rope, and he pulled a couple the entire way to the whales and back on our trip. The goal was to get everyone safely to the whales so we could all see them together.
Once we made it to the whales, we stuck together and didn't get too close so as not to disturb the whale. It was absolutely magical, and a feeling that's hard to describe. We observed them in the water for about 30-45 minutes then made the swim back to the boat.
What really impressed me with the trip was the absolute respect and care the captain and first mate had for the whales. It was special to see that they were enjoying the experience as much as the guests. And I loved that each directive from the crew was to keep the whales safe and calm.
I think whale swimming is probably an activity best enjoyed by adults or really strong younger swimmers. The boat ride also wasn't bad at all, even in the rougher seas. However, I'd recommend taking a Dramamine if there's any chance you could get seasick.
After whale swimming, we visited an area of shallow water where we had the opportunity to swim with some rays and reef sharks. These sharks are around people nearly every day and are quite small, so it's a very safe experience and would also be appropriate for kids.
We wrapped up snorkeling and were served fresh pineapple and coconut on the boat ride back to the hotel. It was the perfect way to end a really perfect day.
