“Romantic Outdoor Seating and Free Shuttle Service”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

One of our adventures in dining away from our Resort was dinner at Le Sunset. This restaurant is part of a privately owned hotel, the Hibiscus.

The concierge at our resort recommended this as a good option for dinner, and arranged for us to be picked up from our hotel. Right on schedule a white Chevy Suburban (quite possibly the only American vehicle in French Polynesia) arrived and a very friendly Frenchman hopped out, helped us into the car, and drove us the 5 minutes to the restaurant. The driver in fact owns Le Sunset and the Hibiscus and was full of information about Moorea.

There is indoor seating that is pretty open to the outside, and patio seating which is what we requested. The patio is very long and roomy so tables are not one on top of another. The patio overlooks the beach and ocean and provides a spectacular view, especially at sunset.

We ordered the rib eye steak and a linguine dish with a blue cheese sauce. Both were cooked perfectly and were delicious. We had a few amusing moments with the language difference (we don't speak French) but everyone had good humor about it. To make a long story short, the shrimp that was missing from the linguine soon arrived, and the shrimp was at no additional charge due to the misunderstanding. The owner does speak excellent English and one of the waitresses enjoyed chatting with us to learn more.

The house Cabernet was an excellent match for the steak, and the Planter's Punch cocktail went nicely with the linguine. The food was plentiful so we didn't have room for desert. When we finished the owner took us back to our resort.

This was an outstanding meal, in a romantic setting, at a beautiful location, with very friendly people.

“Great Pizza!”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

The location is amazing, right on the water! We were fortunate to get one of the 6 outdoor tables for most meals. The best way to start the day is with a croissant and coffee overlooking the water. I miss it already!
The staff was great! Between their minimal english and my minimal french, we did fine!
Pizza and salads were really good as well as the desserts.

“Pricey, ok.”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We ate at this restaurant because we thought that roasted chicken stand (La Paillote) across the street was closed for the day (but it opened at 6pm). Oh, well...

Did not really regret the food, but the prices were steep - like most restaurants on Moorea.  We ate the Mahi Mahi which was good with blue cheese sauce (yum!).  However, it was 2700 xpf. One liter of local mineral water was almost 500 xpf (store price only 100).  Total was 5500 xpf for two people.  Some may not flinch, it wasn't anything really special...but we only had a fish dish.

Atmosphere was simple, but nice with plastic chairs inside, and wooden picnic tables outside which were a bit too rustic for us.  Service was quick, but we went when it opened right at 6pm.  There is also a small bar too, and direct views of the sunset.  We were also served some bread with rock hard frozen butter as well as some black olives in a small dish for appetizer.

Plenty of mosquitos to keep you itching though, so be prepared with some bug repellant.  Recommend going there once, maybe...but, if on a budget, go have a nice roasted chicken just down the road, yeah!

“What a nice surprise!”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

We were picked up at our hotel, the Intercontinental Moorea, by the owner of the restaurant and hotel in his brand new pick-up truck. He also was our ride back. The drive was about 15 minutes long, and well worth it. We were seated on their large terrace overlooking the water. The outdoor tables are basically pic-nic tables which was fun. Indoors have regular tables and chairs. The quality of the food and selection was very good. Our favorite dish was one of the appetizers: pineapple, tomato, basil & shrimp salad served in a half-pineapple. The waitress was kind and patient. We would have certainly returned had it not been our last night on the island. It is a great place for families, they have yummy pizza and seem to be popular with local families as well.
