“Great, Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2010

This was our first trip to Aruba and after quite bit of research on this site and others, we decided to forego the big resort scene and stay at Sunset Beach Studios. What a great choice it turned out to be. I thought our 15 and 12 year old boys might be bummed to not be at a resort, but we were at the resort beaches one afternoon waiting for a boat trip and afterwards they both said they were glad to have our own private oceanfront rather than be on a big beach with 10,000 people. And when I say our own private oceanfront, I am just barely exaggerating. As others have written about Sunset Beach Studios, the views of the water and proximity to great snorkling are just fantastic. From front door to snorkeling in the Caribbean was just a minute away! And to add to the fun, there is a rusting shipwreck in very shallow water less than a hundred yards from shore and accessible wih snorkeling gear instead of requiring scuba equipment.

In regards to the accommodations themselves, I was struck by how clean and pristine the rooms themselves were. The owners, JP and Eve, and their staff keep the place pretty darned spotless. In regards to the complaints voiced by others about having only a hotplate and microwave for cooking, this was no problem for us. And yes, there is no hot water at either sink, and the hot water in the shower took a long time to arrive after turning it on, but once again these were not show stoppers to us.

In regards to the office staff, we worked primarily with Sarah who was a pure delight. In addition to her duties in reservations and bookings, she took the time to act as our personal concierge, booking our rental car, jeep, and boat trip for us, getting us our snorkeling gear and beach towels, giving advice on where to go, what to see, where to eat, etc. In addition, owner JP gave sage medical advice when my wife got sea urchin spines in her foot.

Although we stayed during the highest season rates, and though we needed two studios to accommodate the four of us, we were very pleased with the value.

All in all, a great place to stay in Aruba!!

The owners and staff are excellent people and are interested that your stay meets your needs. The setting is exquisite, with the opportunity so near for the beauty of the Caribbean, incredible weather, breathtaking sunsets, soothing tradewinds, quiet coves,
awesome beaches, stunning snorkeling and windsurfing and grillout to your hearts content. The property and studios are comfortable, clean, quiet and charming.
In mere moments, (5 to 10 minutes) you are at the Commmercial zones: with the variety of beaches, dining, boating, shopping, gambling, golfing, churches and numerous activities. And YES we appreciate the enjoyment, so we have reserved our 4th. stay for an extended vacation.

We stayed at Sunset Beach for 2 weeks during a fairly quiet season, with two young children (5 months and 2,5 years). We chose this accomodation because we are independent travelers who prefer self-catering to all-inclusive, and the personal touch to mass-tourism. We also spent quite a lot of time windsurfing close by (great for advanced and beginner surfers, walking distance, great discounts if you stay at Sunset Beach!), snorkeling (wow!) and swimming at the various beaches, mostly between 5-10 minutes drive from the Sunset Beach studios. You definitely need a car if you're staying here, by the way.

The room was spotless and two comfortable cots were placed for the children. Service was friendly, personal and the staff went out of their way to help us out when necessary. We were glad to have chosen the Garden View; our eldest could play by the pool why we relaxed outside the house. It was a pity that the BBQ gas was all gone when we wanted to use it.

We are coming back for sure!

This was our 2nd stay here and we just loved it! If the "might as well be anywhere" hi rises/shopping/restaurant area doesn't appeal to you this is great choice as a home base to really explore and experience all the island has to offer or just veg out. However, the hi rise area and other stores and restaurants are just a 10 minute car or bus ride away.

We stayed in oceanfront studio with a beautiful view from our own private porch. There is good snorkeling directly in front at the rusty ship (but rocky) and several other lovely sandier beaches that have even better snorkeling are a 5-10 minutes ride away and even walkable if you don't lug around too much stuff. The windsurfing beach is also just down the road and fun to watch.

There was a very nice pool, jacuzzi & BBQ, most often all to ourselves and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. While our room was not luxurious it was clean, spacious and well appointed with everything needed if you wish to really cook or just stock up on groceries for quick meals. Free ice, beach towels and parking. Wifi and snorkel equipment is also availabe for a small fee.

The owners and staff are friendly and really nice although sometimes a little hard to catch. Pay attention to the hours posted on the office door and you'll be fine.

It is an excellent value in a very pretty, fairly private & relaxing setting.

I love this place. I have been 3 times and every time has been great. The grounds are always beautiful and staff is friendly. The pool and Hot tub are great. The rooms are clean and have a nice small kitchen. This place is for adventure type travelers who can fend for themselves on trips. If you want a waiter to take your order while you sit at the pool this is not the place for you....go down to one of the crowded high rise hotels for that. Awesome snokeling right in front of the hotel and great beaches just up the road. I go to Aruba to windsurf and you get a great rate renting from the location on Fishermans Huts when you stay here.
