“SunSet Beach Studios”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

We went as a group for a destination wedding. 3 Couples all stayed at SunSet Beach Studios. We had a wonderful time. The grill available for guests was great! The caban was a great place to gather, we enjoyed the company of other guests as well. I would definitely recommend a rental car. Everything was within an easy drive.

Room Tip: All the rooms were comfortable. (we had 3 in our group)

If you are looking for an intimate getaway location that’s away from the crowded high-rise district, quiet and restful, yet close to some of the best snorkeling beaches in Aruba, you’ll find it here. Malmok is a residential area that has some of the island’s most beautiful homes fronting along LG Smith Blvd. (a two-lane paved beach road) and is devoid of busy commercial properties. Although there is a beach directly across the road from the Sunset Beach villas, it’s not that great for bathing as there is a lot of coral. However, there are several small beaches within a mile of the place that offer the things we enjoy most, both above and below the waves. Four of the villas have a full ocean view while the others open into a pleasant courtyard with a pool and hot tub. We stayed in Ocean 2, which had everything we needed in the way of amenities plus a large covered deck where we enjoyed watching the sunset every evening. The kitchen was well equipped for limited cooking which in our case included breakfast, lunch and happy hour allowing us to splurge on dinner at a different restaurant each night. There was a small dining area inside, but we preferred to eat out on the deck so we could look at the ocean and enjoy the beautiful flowers (Bougainvillea, Trinitaria, Oleander, Flamboyan and Aruba Aloe) and all the birds that were also attracted by the floral display growing everywhere around our deck. Aruba is also home to half the world’s species of lizards found only on this island and we saw some of them every day while sitting on the deck, including a large Iguana who crawled down from the terra cotta tile roof to cadge grapes and orange slices from us. Summarizing the amenities that are most important to us: a comfortable bed, windows that open, tile floors throughout, spacious bath with a large shower and lots of hot water, attentive maid service, clean linens and towels (including beach towels), very friendly and helpful staff, congenial and polite guests (we made a few friends there during our stay). Things you will not see at this place include tourists hogging beach chairs, busy hotel lobbies, beach vendors hawking wares, swim-up pool bars, people waiting for elevators, hotel staff hustling for tips, acres of parking lots and crowds of people. I guess there are some who like those things. We’re planning a return to Sunset Beach, and I must confess I debated whether to submit a review, thinking it best perhaps to keep it a closely-guarded secret, but my more generous side prevailed.

Room Tip: Go for the ocean view studios - the sunsets are worth the money.

We loved the Sunset Beach Studios. Rooms were clean and cool. The staff and owners were very helpful and friendly. I stumbled on this place on the internet and I'm so very glad I did. I wanted a local feeling and not a highrise experience. When I get back to Aruba this is the place I will stay. We met so many terrific people from all over the world. Aruba was an amazing experience. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: The Garden Rooms are nice around the pool. The ocean front rooms have great views of the beach and...

This is my family's 4th time spending a week at Sunset Beach Studios and we had another fabulous time! Cant' say enough about Eve, JP and staff - very accommodating. Loved the clean rooms, refreshing pool, cooking/dining out in the pool/patio area, feeding flowers to our "pet" iguanas, Al and Iggy. Nice remodeling done to the main house to make more individually rented studios - we stayed in the Large Ocean 1(liked the extra living room area) and Garden 1 studio) which were perfect for us. The snorkeling about a mile north of the studios (where you see all the booze cruise boats anchored) is the best on the island. The walk to the natural pool from the horse farm is something we always look forward to. Aruba is an island where you just rent a car and go - can stop and eat/drink anywhere without worry of getting sick, Ling & Sons is a well-stocked grocery store. Recommend the Sate platter at the Paddock down by the docks in Orangestad. Also the restaurant at the end of the Radisson Hotel's pier is great at sunset and loved the band! The new restaurant Flying Fishbone in Savaneeta is well worth the drive - excellent food and who wouldn't want to end dinner with their toes in the ocean?!! Barrie W

we just returned from aruba and it was wonderful. i loved the entire island. the trike tour was so much fun, as was the jolly pirates snorkeling trip. while big resorts are nice, the sunset beach studios were so wonderful...it is great to be directly in front of awesome beaches and sunsets, to have a pool and hot tub to use 24/7 and the property is beautiful...i loved my private side porch and view of the ocean, and the car was just steps away for whenever we wanted to head out...i absolutely loved it. we stayed in the smallest studio, but it has the best location...it also has a wonderful modern bathroom and shower, large fridge and freezer, good air conditioner, kitchen table, etc...just a very cute room...if i had to make a single complaint, i would say the beds are not the big fluffy beds we are used to in american hotels, but that is the only fault i can find. i will happily go back to sunset and in fact can't wait...the staff is so friendly, and the office even offers snorkel rentals, chair rentals, drinks for sale, etc...i just can't explain how much we loved it!!! thanks sunset and aruba for a great vacation...

Room Tip: garden room 8 w/ ocean side view has a great view and porch but is small. if you need more room the...

This past February my family stayed at the Villa Calabas. My wife, my parents, my three children and I all agreed the house was one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed. The house is great in many ways. The views are amazing. I never got tired of looking out over the island. Everyone loved the great pool. While my wife and I explored the island with the kids, my parents lounged at the pool all day. The open layout really allows you to appreciate the tropical setting. If you like the photos on the internet, you won’t be disappointed by reality. If anything, the actual setting is even more amazing. The house is clean and has everything you need for a great vacation. JP and Eve are wonderful hosts. We’ve already called them to schedule a return visit in 2013.

This place was great, we were there for five nights at the Sunset Beach Studios and would like to stay another week longer, it was relaxing and quiet. The room was clean and comfortable. We had really enjoyed our first vacation in Aruba, we had seen a lot, the lovely beaches were a few minutes from there, also al the restaurants and shops. We love it. Everyone was very kind and helpful , especially Mrs Eef, she had advised us lot. Thank you so much. We will return in the future.
