Description: Welcome to The Rose and Crown (Tintern Steakhouse) a small country pub on the banks of the River Wye. The Pub has open log fires and a warm friendly atmosphere dealing predominantly in locally sourced steaks as well as a bar menu. We took over the property in January 2012 and after extensive cleaning and interior work doubled the Enviromental Health Organization food and hygiene rating from a 2 star to a 4 star which is second only to the Wye Valley Hotel which has a 5 star rating and we are endeavouring to achieve this rating in the very near future incidentally we are the only restuarants to display the ratings as all the others in tintern rate 3 and below.

Jason and Sally work hard to ensure you enjoy your visit. Chat to the locals and you will soon make new friends. Some real "characters" who are both very friendly and keen to share thier knowledge and history of Tintern and surrounding areas. The food is excellent.

“Top Notch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

Would thoroughly recommend this place. 4 of us stopped on the way back from a golfing trip and although food wasn't due to be available for an hour or so the landlord made us very welcome and within 30 mins we were sitting down to a most excellent game pie and chips etc. Will definitely revisit again when in the area.

Have been a regular here over the years and was worried that when the landlord, chief, retired it would be the end of an era. No worries, same excellent stakes.have been thee times this month so not just a flash in the pan' can now come on a plate as well as' sizzlers', great. Also does good curries. Beer is also consistently good.

“Not posh but friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

Visited here for our last night in the area dogs allowed very much a local pub but staff lovely and the locals very chatty. Our dog who seems to be a bit of celebrity wherever we go had lots of attention. Meals nice and reasonable priced. They don't do starters though! They seem to specialise in steaks but as I don't eat red meat I went for the chicken burger with chips. This did not come as I expected. It came with two chicken fillets in batter in a bun with salad in a bun. This was far too much for me so our dog had one of the chicken fillets, he USA fussy eater but he wolfed it down so it must have been good. Lol. My husband had meat and potato pie with chips and peas. This was Hilda huge lie with lots of meat which he said was really nice and was also a jug of gravy. We both enjoyed our meals. Meal prices ranged from about £7.50 - £13.
Not posh inside slate floor but open fire but a nice atmosphere would definitely recommend it.

This pub is on the main road overlooking the river. There are picnic tables across the road to sit when it's a nice day/evening to swans and ducks go paddling by.

Would I go here again if intone area? Definitely

After recently visiting the anchor we decided to try somewhere else and found the rose and crown a very walker and dog friendly pub which specialises in steaks which we had and sat on the riverside to eat served by very friendly and helpful staff who nothing was too much trouble for and we will definately eat here again and highly recommend it
