“Great pub food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2013

We've had lunch here a few times recently, and the standard is always very good. It's pub food, but in the best possible way. Good ingredients well prepared. On my last trip I had fish and chips - lovely batter, home made chips, pea puree and (I think) home made tartar sauce. Their fish cakes are pretty good too.

“booked out in mid-November? It must be good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2013

yup, completely booked out for Sunday except for one table for two. Waiting staff were very helpful (contary to a recent review) and keen to oblige but the real star is the food. Very good pub-restaurant food with a nice menu. Red pepper and goat cheese soufle was very nice with an even better side of puy lentils and roasted vegetables. Cod loin was also very good .... but the mushroom risotto that I had as a starter was the star of the show. And a real bargain for around £35 - highly recommended

Book or get there before noon!

“Good food and lovely view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2013

Had lunch here on a drizzly day but the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Ate in the Garden Room and the view was lovely. The food was a cut above the usual pub food. Well prepared and presented. My husband especially liked the pea puree with mint. Not something we get in US. I had a lovely bowl of soup that was full of fresh ingredients and the perfect thing for the day. Would recommend this place based on this history of the building and the beautiful views. Nice that the food is good also.

“Good Recovery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

Had a good Sunday lunch here on the 3rd November. I was very impressed especially as the restaurant had been under a few litres of water on the Monday before!! The staff recovered and got the business back to normal within hours.
The food was good and the service timely and relatively unobtrusive thus enabling you to enjoy the company and convivial nature of the event.

“what a lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013

Called here whilst holidaying in area for lunch. Having seen menu we made this main meal of the day my wife have the steak pie - home cooked and beautifully presented and I had hake which had just right consistency with beautiful chips and minted peas. Pudding was excellent as was the beer and coffee. The whole lot was less than £30 for the 2 of us. This place has good food at reasonable prices with good service. Don't miss it if you are in the area
