We had a sad family occasion to attend, and the Horn of Plenty provided a little oasis in the middle of our grief. The staff were fabulous and went beyond the call of duty to accomodate us. They even came to collect us when there no taxis at the end of the evening!
We stayed in room number 2. It was gorgeous! The only draw back was that there is some kind of cistern or boiler against the wall adjoining room number one and it was very noisy.- the wall was vibrating. Also the sound proofing is not good so we could hear people in room 1 talking. We wouldn't have dreamed of complaining because the staff had been so lovely to us. But if you do book, check the room number- unless you are a very heavy sleeper.

Unless you're weighed down with cash, you might not think about staying here. Pompous, overblown, pretentious? Yes, it's a treat. If you don't have a lot of spare cash, this might be off the radar... but, this is one of those rare places worth saving up for. We did just that, and enjoyed every minute. We had been there 10 years ago, in such awful weather, we couldn't enjoy the surroundings; we didn't even know there was a Tamar Valley, the weather was so poor. This time, the weather was on our side. Back to value for money. It's subjective of course. The food was excellent, the rooms (we stayed in a garden room) small but very clean and cosy. But that isn't what it's all about. The friendliness and attention of the staff were exceptional - in fact, less 'staff', more 'colleagues' . Despite a change of ownership, quality obviously remains the key. So, to the food. We were impressed as much by the quality, as to the provenance of the food, mostly locally sourced, seasonal and with a commitment to the highest quality. If I have one personal minor gripe, it would be the price of individual drinks. I'm happy to pay for a Michelin star quality meal, but not £4.50 for a can of beer. Sounds petty, but it's my only criticism of an excellent, memorable and relaxing stay.

We've just come back from a 5 night stay at the Horn of Plenty and would certainly go back!! We've been before ten years ago and thought it was great, so this visit we were expecting great things.......and WOW, dare I say exceeded our expectations! The service was so friendly and warming, nothing was too much trouble, very professional but never stuffy! The food was outstanding and as we were staying a longer break, they asked us if there was anything we'd like them to cook on our final night which made it extra special! It is nice to see that the hotel seemed to be one step ahead of us on several occasions, in making our stay fabulous. We stayed in a Garden room this time, small but perfectly formed, with a balcony looking out onto a walled garden with a backdrop of Tamar Valley. If you're a light sleeper then one of the rooms upstairs would probably better.
But as for the views well.......

The hotel is set is beautiful gardens with stunning views of the Taymar Valley. Our room was luxuriously appointed and spotlessly clean. The service was excellent throughout our two day stay. The food was of the highest quality.

On arrival at reception we were welcomed with a warm and friendly greeting and then taken to our room where a few useful things were pointed out------- all in all a very nice start to our 3 night break..Our "garden" room was tastefully decorated and consisted of top quality fixtures and fittings and had great views of the valley and beyond.
The food was top drawer " fine dining" and all the staff in the restaurant were friendly, efficient and helpful.
The hotel is run in an efficient, friendly manner giving guests a relaxing quality holiday .
