“fabulous food”

This hotel really exists for the food and I would say there is little point in staying if you don't eat here. The chef used to work at the jack in the green near Exeter and he has only improved. The menu was interesting, food beautifully presented and the desserts were very playful. Definitely the best non-Michelin stared food I have eaten. We stayed on a Sunday night and the hotel was full, although mostly with older guests. Staying when we did the break was excellent value for money coming in at under 200 quid for extensive dinner, with wine, accommodation overnight (lovely bathroom), and delicious breakfast the next morning.

After a slightly stressful family wedding we sloped off to Devon for 3 nights of R and R.

We had never seen or heard of the Horn of Plenty, but TripAdvisor review were good so we decided to give it a try. Good choice !

Our room (Room 4 in the main house) was large, with an enormous (and extremely comfortable) bed. The view over the Tamar valley was fantastic, evening sunsets and morning mist in the valley, and could be enjoyed from the room or the large balcony. The bathroom was large and well equipped (2 basins, bath AND shower), the only downside were the 3 steep steps from the bedroom down into the bathroom. Staff were unfailingly pleasant and efficient.

The main event was the food. Breakfasts were excellent (and not too intimidating), dinner was an event. This place richly deserves it's 2 AA Rosettes, even the Monday 'Pot Luck' dinner was
well up to standard.

Downside? It's rather too expensive for me to return as often as I might want to.

We returned yet again to this beautifully situated country house hotel. The staff are all friendly and helpful, without always hovering! The rooms are stylish and individual, with beautiful bathrooms and every comfort. The food was out of this world yet again. The wines range from a good glass to a bottle for a special event. The hotel and its location are peaceful, yet there are so many things to do in the area. We love it so much we are going back for Christmas - with family this time.

Room Tip: If you stay in the main house, you won't have to go out into the cold or wet when going for brea...

This was our second stay at The Horn of Plenty. The first time staying in the house instead of a garden room. Wow what a beautifully appointed room with fantastic views and well appointed balcony! It is so peaceful here. The staff are fantastic and cannot do enough for you. The food is beyond expectation and it was great to participate in the theme evening and have excellent Chef Scott explain the dishes. Cannot recommend the Hotel and Restaurant highly enough - it certainly lives up to its reputation.

This is a lovely little hotel in a very quiet spot. We went for the Normandy Evening which was a gourmet buffet with a different glass of wine with each course. The food was delicious and the accompanying wines went with each course perfectly. It was lovely to have Scott the chef come out of the kitchen to describe each course. We had a very comfortable overnight stay and a good breakfast. Overall a lovely experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room in the Garden house, a short walk from the main house. It was quiet with lovely...

Visited for afternoon tea on a hot Autumn afternoon. So hot the room we ate tea in was like sitting in a greenhouse- we had to pull the blinds down in the end which was a shame as the views are wonderful.

Service was pleasant and not intrusive.

The tea itself was above average with tasty sandwiches and excellent scones (unfortunately not fruited which I prefer). Heaps of the jam and clotted cream, as one would expect in Devon. The cakes (two varieties) were nice enough, though not as good as the scones.

Beautiful location, stunning views, lovely country house. We stayed in room 4 which ticked all the boxes. Evening dining was very good but menu the same on all 3 nights we stayed for our "gourmet break". Breakfast buffet was very limited and often ran out. Cooked breakfast often had something missing. We had a very relaxing stay until our 3rd night when staff spent 2 hours re-arranging furniture for the next days wedding! This was after the guests had retired and went on till 12.15 am. This spoilt a very lovely break. When we complained we were only offered a verbal apology, despite others also complaining. No compensation was forthcoming. This was very disappointing and surprising given the reputation of this hotel.

Room Tip: Room above reception which might disturbed some
