“what a treat of a cream tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

Coming to the Horn Of Plenty, is such a treat. We go out to different places as a treat for our slimmers world group. We visited the Horn on a miserable day, but to be welcome at the door by friendly staff and a cosy fire was just fantastic. We were taken into the drawing room for a seat, whilst my party all arrived when we were all here, we were asked what teas we wanted. Whilst we waited for these to come we had the whole drawing room to ourselfs... as there was 10 of us. We then got taken through to the restaurant and had the center table. Even on this miserable day it looked fab. The view was slightly tainted by the mist but never the less, we could imagine what its like on a sunny day. So we ordered a mixture of luxury cream teas and Devon cream teas, it was just perfect. Even our friend with a gluten intolerant was catered for in every way. Thank you to all, we will be back.

Room 2 in the main house this time - very nice indeed (a few photos attached) and a very good sleep had by both.

All staff superlative and consumate professionals. Good luck also to Jack (1st day !) - you have some great help alongside you. Our evening meal, after the canapes taken in the lounge, was sublime. Breakfast next morning is the true mark of a quality stay - not a baked bean in sight ! Fresh juice, choice of cereals, toast & quoissants, then a cooked affair.......... didn't eat again until 7pm !

Our only niggle was finding no milk to accompany the tea, coffee, chocolate and kettle. Normally it would be in the fridge alongside but clearly forgotten this time. It didn't bother us as we were on alcohol all eve and up and went down to breakfast early.

Will we be going again ? You bet, but only when the low season prices kick back in.

Room Tip: Well, room 2 is a shorter walk to the dining room than the garden rooms are !

Coming off the dreary rain-sodden moor to this haven of tranquility and style was a great tonic!
And when the weather cleared for breakfast next morning we were amazed at the setting overlooking miles of beautiful countryside
Our room was stunningly good, with every luxury you would expect of this place, all in the best possible taste
Our hosts Julie and Damian (she the ultimate professional, he the dry, quirky one - we loved him too) suggested we go for the tasting menu. Seven courses of culinary delight and interest later, we were extremely impressed, if a little full!
Our visit was rounded off with a perfect breakfast overlooking Cornwall - highly recommended!

We stayed here for one night for a friends wedding. We had a garden room which was very nice although a little small, the bathroom was lovely and everything was very clean. The bed was very comfy. The views from the little balcony were lovely.
The wedding food was excellent and the staff very nice. The weather couldn't have been better!
Breakfast was very good and plenty of choice. We thought it was good value for money.

We were married at the Horn of Plenty in June 2012 and revisited for a two night stay a few days ago. This time we stayed in room 7, a light and airy room with a balcony overlooking the delightful gardens where, at our wedding, we had a Birds of Prey display in the afternoon. During this recent stay we visited The Garden House, a beautiful setting, and Buckland Abbey, connections with Drake. Our bedroom and bathroom for the wedding was stunning. See the website for pictures. Some of our guests stayed in the main house and some stayed in the Garden Rooms

If you are looking for a wedding venue The Horn is a fairy tale setting. Julie will organise your wedding according to your wishes from advising on procedures for engaging the registrar to conduct your ceremony at the hotel, to providing entertainment later and everything inbetween.

Your stay at the hotel for you and your guests in wonderful surroundings will be amazing, as will be the Wedding Breakfast. We arranged for our guests to choose from the menu beforehand and the meal was superb.
So if you are looking for somewhere really special for a wedding in the West Country, talk with Julie.

We recently stayed here for two nights (Thurs and Fri) for our wedding anniversary. We had one of the garden rooms, which are in a separate block to the rear of the main hotel (luckily it didn't rain but umbrellas are provided just in case). The room was tastefully decorated (modern) and the bed was large and very comfortable. There are bath robes to snuggle up in and a lovely view from the (small) balcony.

We ate here on one night as well as for breakfast. As the dinner menu is a fixed three course it did work out fairly pricey but the quality was excellent. The choice is a little limited and its sad to see Foie Gras on any menu these days. Breakfast was wonderful.

Room Tip: Room 9 in the Garden Room block is upstairs on the end and was very quiet.

We had visited the Horn of Plenty several times for lunch, and had promised ourselves an overnight stay to experience their Tasting Menu.(At 1hr 15mins drive it's too far for dinner!) On our last lunch visit, in mid March, we happened to see the literature relating to their forthcoming "Gourmet Weekend" and hastened to book, securing one of the last rooms! Wow, are we pleased we did!
The weekend was everything we had hoped for, and more! Our room was a spacious one, with a balcony with amazing views of the River Tamar(not that the weather permitted use of it, after the Friday evening!) and was well designed and furnished, with some interesting touches. We loved our bathroom, with a huge bath in which one could recline and take in the aforesaid view. it also had twin washbasins , and a shower. Lovely big fluffy towels too!
A few minutes after we arrived, one of the excellent staff arrived with cakes -----a mid-afternoon treat!
A glass or two of champagne(included in the price of this special weekend) was a delightful way to start the evening, which only got better all the way!!Chef Scott Paton sent out some stunningly good food, and it was interesting to hear him describe the dishes to his diners, a task he performed well. The first evening had a "Seafood" theme and "Wowee!" is probably as good a description as I can manage! Each course was a delight! Wines were included with each course and were well chosen and copiously poured!
Day 2 began with a very good breakfast, which gave us sufficient impetus to brave the rain and fog! We were only too pleased to return to our "weekend home", (for so it felt) in good time for the very enjoyable wine tasting at 4p.m. There is, I feel something deliciously decadent about wine tasting at that time of day!
And so, on to our second evening of gourmet delights, once again starting with champagne. "I could get used to this", I murmered to DH. "Dream on", he replied(or something similar!) This evening our theme was a Parisian dinner, once again brilliantly executed by the Chef and his kitchen brigade and impeccably served by front of house staff, who are a great asset to this hotel.
To send us on our way on Sunday morning, more champagne was served with breakfast!
"Of course, we mused on the Saturday evening, we still haven't had the tasting menu". This was easily remedied; there and then we booked a return visit in September!

Room Tip: One of the de-luxe rooms with a balcony and views of the Tamar Valley is well worth paying extra for...
