The Wooden Cabbage was a truly delightful experience from the moment we arrived at this pretty and tranquil property. A warm welcome awaited us from Susie and Martyn along with tea on the verandah in their picturesque garden. Our room was very comfortable with all that you could desire. We were also introduced to ginger and lemon tea - very refreshing in the rare July heatwave we experienced! Delicious breakfast, particularly Susie's home-made muesli - a must! We will certainly return when next in Dorset and even more reason now that we have discovered The Wooden Cabbage.

Room Tip: Blue & White Room overlooked the courtyard.

The title says it all really. Stayed a couple of nights in June and didn't want to leave. I can't recommend too highly. Wonderful breakfast. A gem of a building set in the beautiful Dorset countryside. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and well laid out. We were captivated by a new-born foal in the field adjoining the garden - see picture

Stayed for two days - delightful hosts Martyn and Susie immediately made us feel like one of the family. Comfortable, clean with the best breakfast this side of the Ritz, with wonderful views down the rural valley. My only teensy gripe is the signage - it isn't the easiest place to find being in the sticks and a more prominent sign at the entrance to the long drive would be a great help.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking down the valley.

A warm welcome awaits here ! Good advice, fantastic country views, peace and quiet...a small piece of heaven. Exceptional rooms in a remoter part of Dorset but with good local restaurants and within 30 minutes of the coast. Martyn and Susie are superb hosts and their garden and home is exceptional.

Room Tip: The twin bedded room has the best views. The Acorn Inn at Evershot for excellent restaurant cuisine...

Wooden Cabbage should really be called a guest house - immediately you are received by Martyn and Susie Lee you are made to feel like welcome guests in their elegant house. Tremendous thought has gone in to every aspect affecting the comfort and peace-of-mind of guests from the lovely décor and choice of antique furniture to the modern, and very practical and roomy, bath and shower rooms. Even the vegetable plot in the lovely garden is an aesthetic picture to behold and provides the source of fresh vegetables and fruit in season.

Nothing is too much for Martyn and Susie from your choice of breakfast (with an abundant choice of food and drink) to a purpose-planned, by Martyn, excursion to the Dorset countryside, towns or attractions. Susie, on request will also cook dinner for you; her cooking is five-star but her prices are not. Every meal is served with special consideration for the wants and preferences of her guests.

Altogether this makes up perfection and this is a rare achievement in the hospitality game. One has to restrain oneself in describing each delight of this lovely house owned and kept by lovely people. I went there with my wife and daughter and none of us wanted to leave. The essence of the experience is that we will certainly. God willing, return one day and it will feel like re-visiting old friends.

Just retured from a really wonderful three night break at the Wooden Cabbage with my elderly parents. Martyn and Susie are the perfect hosts, providing delicious meals (Martyn's breakfasts and Susie's three course dinner), restaurant recommendations (the Chetnole Inn and Acorn Inn both super places to eat) and plenty of local tourist information. The house is beautiful; the bedrooms are very comfortable and there is a seating area in the conservatory (with fantastic views) which means that your are not confined to bedrooms if you want to meet up for a pre-dinner drink or an after-dinner coffee. A really lovely place for a relaxing break in a beautiful part of the country.

Room Tip: If you are a couple go for the cream room which is the largest of the three and possibly quieter as...

I can´t speak highly enough about this haven of peace and tranquility. The genuine, friendly welcome we received upon arriving at Wooden Cabbage was just the beginning. Susie and Martin are the perfect hosts. The rooms are very comfortable - a good nights sleep guaranteed. The breakfast was a very generous melange of homemade products with a fresh fruit platter and a substantial cooked breakfast. The personal touch that you just don´t get in big hotels was much appreciated.
Our hosts aided us with driving routes, local beauty spots, restaurant recommendations and much more. Nothing was too much to ask of them.
This is a large, spacious well appointed house in which you are made to feel at home and very welcome. With the beautiful scenery surrounding the house one really feels like staying much longer than originally planned. If you are planning a trip to Dorset - look no further !!

Room Tip: All good. Quiet, well appointed and very comfortable.
