“A privilege to have stayed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2011

We consider it a privilege to have spent 2 nights at this 5+ star B&B. Susan & Richard are excellent hosts and even took care of my husband the one day he was feeling off-colour, which meant I could take my parents out sight seeing. The home excudes not only the character of it's Tudor roots, but the character of the hosts and their life experiences. We cannot wait to find a reason to stay again. This is B&B in the lap of luxury. A must see is Finchingfield 2 miles away - even on a windy rainy day it was beautiful.

Room Tip: Both rooms are excellent, well appointed and luxuriously furnished with crisp white linen. If you h...

Richard and Susan at Church Hill make me want to choose the B & B style accommodation on all my travels. You could not ask for a better experience, the rooms have old english character & are cosy, the breakfast fills you with comfort but most of all Richard and Susan can not do enough for you to make you feel welcome. I arrived as a guest but left feeling like we were family.

Room Tip: Both rooms choices offer great features so I personally think you can't go wrong with either.

If you are looking for an excellent place to stay in the Wethersfield area, you have found it.
My wife, baby and I were in town for 3 nights for a wedding and our stay was really one of the highlights of the entire long weekend. The owners, Susan and Richard, are fantastic people and really do make you feel at home.
We stayed in the Tudor suite and also took a look at the Oak suite, both are extremely clean and comfortable and ooze old English character. The baths are huge, the duvets are feather and the views delightful. The WIFI is fast and super easy to connect to the network.
The property itself is delightful and the owners really make the experience. Susan and Richard are extremely friendly and more than willing to help out with the simplest of requests. They know just about everything and everyone in the area.
Finally - the breakfast! I am more of a coffee and fruit person in the morning however I decided to indulge in cooked breakfasts when I stayed; and I am glad I did. They source most of the ingredients locally and in addition to the the full range of traditional cooked breakfast items they do a scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on brioche. It's amazing. No wonder they have won a bunch of awards for the B&B, service and the breakfasts
Overall a great stay and we'll be back!

Room Tip: They have two rooms, the Tudor and Oak Suites. Both are excellent.

Great stay at the Church Hill House in Wethersfield. We liked the cleanliness, the quality of the service and the breakfast very very much! This is one establishment that does everything you expect very very well. Great all rounder for a great experience.

As if this wasnt enough, it turns out that Susan and Richard are the dream hosts: friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. Really nice people. If you are looking to having a relaxing weekend in north Essex, it really can t be better than this!

Highly recommended!

We had a wedding to attend at the beggining of July at Spains Hall in Finchingfield, Essex. There were quite a few B&B's suggested but we wanted to go for one of the closer ones which this definately is. It was absolutely brilliant!! The welcome was extremely warm and the bedroom and bathroom was excellently presented. The building has lots of character and this is experienced in the rooms. The bed was amAzingly comfortable! Then breakfast the next day was super! Better than any hotel breakfast I have ever had and the service was exactly as you wanted it at breakfast - you had what you needed when you needed it without being disturbed while you were enjoying breakfast. They got the balance exactly right. I would certainly recommend this place! Definately stay there again!

We spent 3 days at Church Hill House, and we were heartly welcomed by Susan and Richard.
We were very pleased with our stay. Everything was perfect, the room, the helpfulness, the breakfast and the hospitality etc. Susan and Richard did everything to make us feel well.

We can heartly recommend the place to other customer.

Room Tip: We had the Oak room, a fine room with view to the garden,

We stayed with another couple whilst attending a wedding nearby. Susan & Richard weren't at all thrown when we arrived earlier than anticipated. They were very welcoming and we were soon settled in the sitting room with tea and coffee. Their home is full of character and interesting momentos - and spotlessly clean. The choices for breakfast were many and varied (and delicious) and we could choose the time. Our room (Tudor Suite) was very comfortable. There were tea/coffee making facilities and lots of clean towels and toiletries. Due to Richard and Susan's first class hospitality this is the best B&B we have stayed in.
