It's been the second year we stop by Le Cariol for few days, but this year with our 7 months daughter. I must say this is like home, the place is great and very well decorated, the host are very nice and very welcoming.
This year we had the room called 'Cote Jardin', very nice and with your private terrace, this makes a great difference, it makes you fell like home. They also had a Chef on site for proposing every night a Guest Table, I must say that the Chef was really good and everything was home made with the standard of a very good Michelin table.
All in all we highly recommend you this place that we particularly love for its calmness and charm that we have not found anywhere else in the region.

Our stay at Le Cariol was divine. Having had a rather busy business trip with numerous locations around Europe we were really looking to relax and unwind. We caught the TGV from Paris and then drove from Angouleme which was fun. Upon arriving at Le Cariol relaxation and bliss seeped into our bodies!

Having stayed at many luxury resorts and hotels around the world I feel confident in saying this place is special. The owners have managed to create a space that provides exceptional traditional beauty while maintaining modern elegance.

When not sleeping/eating/drinking we had fun exploring the area (mostly to do more eating). A great experience was a nearby market in Issigeac picking up some oysters and champagne and having a picnic in a cave!

Next year we look forward to bringing our children who I know will LOVE it all...

Thanks so much to Irene and Martijn, see you soon!

We have stayed at Le Cariol a few times so I'm confident now to share what I think are replicable experiences: in short, wonderful. This is truly a unique place. We travel extensively for both business and holiday and we keep coming back to this "petite chateau" in France's gastronomy heart...

It's a classic, authentic chateau but completely modern inside. There are fireplaces everywhere--usually roaring--and it's obvious someone took personal charge of renovating a historic place (it sits on an early cromagna man site and is just down the river from the famous caves of Lascou).

When the sun sets it lights the rock walls up. There's always champagne and wonderful music going. It's very private but somehow affords a commanding view over two farms and a small town in the distance. The owner is an eccentric artist and his wife runs the chateau. I recommend hunting down the artist's studio if he is around for a personal tour....wild.

Hit the Saturday market in town but avoid le couderc the nudist place down the road.....(we mistakingly pulled in...)

After our first stay last year, we decided this year to go back. The place is so beautiful and relaxing. Sitting by the pool with a glas of red wine..I would go back in a second. concerning the hosts: Martijn and Irene are very nice and we always got what we asked.so, if you are looking for a nice place to relax in the Perigord, visit 'Le Cariol'...

My Family had a blast during our 4nights -5 days at Le Cariol- Our children refuses to get out for a drive in the neighborhood , they just wanted to hang out at the chartreuse.... they enjoyed the sauna after a dip in the pool, played the piano and had candle light dinners- breakfast is amazing- a perfect place for relaxation. Moreover- our family discovered the love for art with Marthjin art session- we created family masterpiece.
I recommend Le Cariol" for a romantic rendezvous as well--- We are looking forward to go back---SOON:) Thank you Marthjin and Irene- We love you:)

Room Tip: My husband and I slept in the garden room-- nice view of the pool and has a great privacy:)
