Description: The Inn was converted from a row of cottages in the 1700s by the original proprietor Edward Richardson. Since then the Inn has changed hands several times, and was taken over in May 2010 by John & Jane McGuire. The Sun is a family run establishment. Sunny by name and by nature, this is one of the most friendly and cheery hostelries in the region. It is a sizeable whitewashed building with grey framed windows, which in summer are draped with vibrantly coloured hanging baskets. Inside, the decor is simple and warm with low beamed ceilings, wooden tables and chairs and wood paneled walls and bar. It has a spacious beer garden and a grassy area at the rear with a fantastic wooden childrens play fort. It also has its own car park, which is strictly for patrons. The Sun Inn is renowned for its Real Ales and has been awarded the Cask Marque and features in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. We offer a wide range of local ales and a constantly changing guest ale and for the non ale drinker there are lagers and stouts.

We went here for food after an abortive trip to the Pooley Bridge inn and the experience couldn't have been more different. We were given a friendly welcome and a table in the small restaurant area.

Between us we ordered a variety of dishes, including the steak and ale pie, steak, fish and chips, Cumberland sausage and chicken and broccoli pie. Unfortunately the chicken pie wasn't available and this is one area where the pub could improve - the menu is very red meat heavy and the person in question ended up ordering from the kids menu because there was nothing else she fancied.

I had the steak and ale pie, which came with a mound of chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. Another in our party also had this and found it a little dry, but mine was fine in that respect. All of the portions seemed to very generous and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food.

The prices were fairly expensive, but this is the lake district and nothing is cheap - in Pooley Bridge the cheapest pint of lager we found was £3.75!

In the bar area there are also three dogs who wander around getting strokes from people. They certainly add to the atmosphere of the place!

Sat outside in the beer garden in glorious sunshine in March. Brilliant. Had the full range of Jennings beers and a guest ale. Lovely menu although we did not eat here. The beer garden was very pleasant indeed. Fab!

We travelled to this pub in may and sat in the beer garden. Lots of room and the location is ideal. We had an afternoon drinking here then ate food on the evening which was brilliant. I had the steak and my partner had prawns. Both were excellent. Staff were very friendly and new their job well. Would go back :)

Followed our instincts on May Day weekend (as had many others in the know), chose the 'pub up the street, away from the centre' and got an excellent meal at good value (for the Lakes) and some decent real ale. Very busy on a Friday night, but friendly accommodating staff.
