I visit Graz frequently and have stayed in many of the hotels in the center. I have read many positive reviews about Harry's since it opened last year, and decided to give it a try.
Firstly, this hotel is only recommended to those traveling by car, as it is well outside the city, making arrival by taxi cost prohibitive, and by bus unnecessarily complicated. Even if you travel by car, it is very difficult to find. I would not have made it without my satellite navigation system.
I was alone, so I only wanted a business single room, but the first night they were all booked, so I took a double room. The double is very spacious, the size of a studio apartment, with a kitchenette complete with refrigerator, sink, stove, and microwave, with dishes and cooking utensils provided. The room also has a sitting area, balcony, desk, full bathtub, LCD TV, and very ample closet space and laptop-sized safe.
The business single is smaller, of course, minus the sitting area and full bathtub in comparison to the double, with a smaller (but still fully equipped) kitchenette. The rooms are fairly clean, particularly the bathrooms, but I found many "dust bunnies" accumulated around the sleeping areas.
Much is made of the hotel's "infotainment" system, but this consists of nothing more than internet over TV or adult films, both for a fee. Apart from that, the TV program is basic, with CNN and BBC the only English language options. You can connect your laptop via ethernet, also for a fee. The connection is slower than other hotels in Graz that offer free internet.
Still, € 59 for such a well-appointed room is more than fair, but the costs can add up. As mentioned, if you want internet you have to pay. Breakfast options are croissant and coffee for € 3.50, or a "full breakfast" for € 8.50. The full breakfast consists of a meager coldcut and cheese buffet, with eggs a la carte. Again, there are other hotels that offer substantially better breakfasts either free or in the same price range.
Parking in the hotel lot is also free, but even this proves difficult. The hotel is directly adjacent to a local community center, and directly across from a sports center, and visitors to both places use the hotel parking with impunity (despite the hotel receptionists claims to the contrary). This means if you come back to the hotel at the wrong time of day, you are forced to park either in the bank parking lot next door, or at the supermarket 200 meters away. This happened to me three of the four nights I was at the hotel. Not fun when it's raining.
The community center and sports center can also be sources of noise, even with the windows to the room closed. There was a dance at the community center one night, and a football game at the sports center the next. Despite the hotel's claim to have advanced soundproofing, it was not adequate enough to keep out this noise. The internal soundproofing also was not enough to keep the entire third floor from quite clearly overhearing a very passionate encounter in one of the rooms one evening.
As already mentioned, the hotel is also far from the city center, so add to your costs driving 20 minutes into the city, paying for parking, and 20 minutes back -- and all over again if you go back to the city for dinner.
I really wanted to like this hotel, and it probably serves a purpose particularly for business people visiting the nearby industrial park. However, for the casual/leisure traveler, there are other equally well-equipped hotels in Graz's charming center. If one compares included amenities and considers travel times, the higher price of the hotels in the center is ultimately worth paying.
