Do yourself a favor and stop and stay at this world class inn and you will impressed beyond words! Owned by a lovely couple a continuation of the family business it is beyond a doubt the best experience we have ever had. It rivals world class hotels here and in Europe . The beds are so comfortable you will not want to get up. The rooms are quiet and well appointed. The food is excellent which only adds to your experience.

My husband and I stayed for the evening in the beautiful honeymoon suite, we were impressed by the comfortable bed, huge jacuzzi tub and tasteful decor. We had a beautiful supper and cocktails and were treated like family by the incredible staff and owner. I cant recommend the inn highly enough, what a perfect weekend!

This is more of a boutique hotel than an inn - the staff was not friendly at all (except for the kitchen workers, who helped with directions) and we felt like we were at a chain hotel in terms of our welcome. But the building is lovely and the bar is in a beautiful room. Location is a bit out of the way.

We selected Room 1 for our stay at the Shadow Lawn and it was almost perfect. The room was very spacious and modern with a flat screen TV, seating area and comfortable bed. Here are our impressions:

1. This is a very old home without elevators or bellman (it's an inn with limited staff) so prepare to shlep your stuff up one to two flights of stairs.
2. Room 1 has french doors and are covered by fabric curtains--the light that they leave on in the hall completely illuminates the room at night--really bothered us, but other guests might not be affected. We asked to have the light turned off, but the worker on duty said that they had to leave on the light due to regulations. A dimmer light would be smarter.
3. It is an old house--when people are in the foyer having a regular volume discussion, you can hear it pretty clearly in your room although most of the time it was pretty quiet.
4. At night, the staff is not at the property--we were the one of only two rooms occupied which was a little strange in this big house.
5. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, a small muffin and biscuit, coffee and juice--service was very nice.
6. The bathroom is nice but the sink area is very narrow.

We were not happy to be rushed out of our room on several occasions. One morning, the clerk called our room to ask when we'd be leaving as it was a few minutes after check-out. We were not even scheduled to leave that day and the clerk never called us back to let us know that she had made an error. The morning we were to leave, as we were packing a few items in our car before breakfast, a worker asked us if we were leaving yet and then came up to us during our breakfast to ask if she could gain access to the room to start stripping the bed because they had guests coming that day.

Stayed at the Shadow Lawn Inn for a wedding and spent three nights. The property was lovely - and definitely felt of a slightly higher caliber than most bed & breakfasts. Sometimes B&B's can feel like you are guests in someone's mid-sized home - but Shadow Lawn is big enough (and run well enough) that you feel like you are in a charming small boutique hotel. There is enough space in the dining room, out on the patio, and in various rooms indoors (like the bar/study) to feel like you can find your own space to read and relax.

The continental breakfast included is a bit meager, but there are much nicer options available a-la-carte on the menu. The lunch and dinner menu are very nice - and the food was very well-prepared.

The only things that keep this Inn from being of a higher caliber is the level of all-day customer service. They could not be more helpful when you check-in, or when you find someone to ask questions of during the day. But there were several times - especially in the late-afternoon and evening - during which I couldn't find any of the staff at all. And calling the main line often led me to voicemail, especially in the evening. Now, I'm not talking about ridiculous demands at 2am in the morning - I'm talking about calling at 10p to see if I could order a couple of beers for my room before the innkeepers closed up for the night. While they are a few miles from town, it would be much nicer if they either A: set up an honor bar downstairs, B: asked if guests required anything before they closed up for the night (which they would of course charge for) or C: offer some kind of mini-bar/snacks in the rooms.

Other feedback would be newer televisions (tried to watch Wimbledon but couldn't see the ball in the static) and higher-quality towels.

All in all, I would happily stay again - but I think it wouldn't take much to turn this B&B from very good to excellent.

Room Tip: The Bridal Suite was nice and spacious - and didn't seem much more expensive than other room.

My hubby spent a night to celebrate our anniversary. Upon our arrival we were welcomed in our beautiful room with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries...The room was the nicesest hotel room ive ever been in,well stocked and very very clean. We had a delicious supper in the quaint dining room and a perfect continental breakfast in the morning. Cant wait to go again...this will be a yearly treat.

The next business trip to the Saint John, NB area, I will happily stay at this elegant, historic inn. The rooms have been carefully renovated, maintaining it's historic feel with all the modern requirements of a business or vacation traveller. Besing in Rothesay, and not in downtown Saint John, gave the Inn a relaxed feel. The staff are welcoming and well trained. Unfortunately, I only had breakfast during my stay. I wish I had an opportunity to have supper her. My only suggestion would be to have the full breakfast available at 7 AM, but I suspect this would be arranged if requested.
