I have been coming to Shadow Lawn Inn for at least 15 years as a business traveller and have loved the charm of Shadow Lawn Inn located in beautiful Rothesay close to Saint John, NB. The inn has the elegance that only exists in old homes...with its high ceilings, beautiful details. Recently it has been taken over by a new owner who is injecting new ideas into the inn....I arrived last trip to find my room beautifully rennovated. After a long day of work and travel, it was the nicest surprise. Check out the rooms on the internet - the owner and staff really care about the guest experience. The dining room offers creative light menus if that is all you want or a more traditional full menu. Food is cooked onsite with local ingredients and the ambience of the dining rooms looking out to the garden (if it is nice you can even sit outside) is wonderful. Staying at Shadow Lawn is a special experience that only unique inns like this can offer. Free internet, accomodating friendly staff....beautiful surroundings and close enough to the highway exit that you can easily get anywhere in the vicinity.

We booked a room at Shadow Lawn as a wedding gift for our close friends. The room itself was spacious and clean but the wall-to-wall carpet was worn and the decor was not appropriate for a heritage inn (looked like low end chain hotel decor). Towels were scarce, toilet paper and tissue ran out & there were no extra stocked in room, and the clock was not set to the proper time. The 'fireplace' as detailed on their website, was plastic logs 'lit' with electricity. We arrived with the bride & groom when they checked in to make sure the bill was taken care of (it had been taken care of previously--we thought-- by phone when we reserved the room weeks prior) but none of the scarce staff seemed to be aware of this. We were then overcharged for the room. To make matters worse, the bride & groom, after ordering a hot breakfast the next morning consisting of runny eggs, cold toast and day-old tomatoe garnish, were presented with a bill for the room rental!! We were mortified. The bride informed me that the piped in music in the dining room that moring was Willy Nelson's "On the Road Again". Indeed--the newlyweds were on the road as quickly as possible!

Shadow Lawn is a great alternative in the St. John area to the tacky chain hotels and mall madness that is springing up. It has old world charm and elegance. The rooms are elegantly appointed. The value for the price is astounding. A more comfortable matress would be the only thing I would change.. On the night we stayed there was a large birthday party taking place downstairs and the revelers were loud until after 10 PM. Normally that would not have bothered us, but it had been a long day and we were anxious for some sleep. All in all, I would definitely return there if I travel that way again. Dinner on site was excellent and convenient.

What a fabulous old Inn this is! From the grand entrance to the sweeping staircase - every detail is wonderful. Large comfortable bedroom with huge bathroom and the surprise of a mini kitchen too. Each room is quite individual in style and I had the opportunity to view several. Wow! Breakfast was ample and tasty and the breakfast room was beautifully restored. An ideal spot to stay while adventuring in this area! Attached dining facilities are getting rave reviews and fast becoming a hot spot in the area.
