“BRILLIANT!”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

Some of the best stays are at small out of the way country locations and this is one of them.
Located in a fabulous village with very friendly locals and staff, this is an ideal stop over for business travellers and an excellent choice for weekend breaks. I stayed just one night, the room had every thing that you could wish for, ensuite, exceedingly comfortable bed, clean with all mod cons, awesome flat screen tv, free Wifi and a view from the bedroom to die for. The cooked breakfast was included in the rate which provides outstanding value for money. Possibly one of the best breakfast I have had south of Scotland. In the evening the delightful restaurant serves up a good choice of meals which are also good value. I had Fillet Steak which was cooked to perfection. There were several villagers in the bar area during my stay and they were most friendly and invited me to join in a game of Skittles. Will definitely be back hopefully for an extended stay! Overall the food, accommodation and service was outstanding! Thank you!

“Thank you”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

After my last post, the restaurant contacted us, apologised and offered a free meal. Michael and his friend took advantage of the offer while I was away!!! Michael reports that the meal was excellent and the service faultless.

“Standards slipping”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

We have dined here approx.12 -15 times in the past 8 months since moving to the area. We have until recently been very satisfied with the quality of the food and service.

But over the past couple of months we have noticed a marked decline.

Yesterday (17 August) we arrived at 1.30 with friends to be told that the kitchen was busy with a large party and so our meals could not be prepared before 2.00. This was not a problem but when 2 meals of fish and chips arrived with cold mushy peas the response was far from ideal. The barman/waiter (who appeared to be the only front of house employee on duty) was clearly feeling harassed and did not take the meals back with the sort of grace that we would have expected for a £9.00 meal.

Later (at 3.00), we wanted to order desserts but were told that the kitchen was shut.

We are due to have meal with a friend this Tuesday and would have been coming here but in view of our recent experiences we will be going elsewhere.

We have some sympathy for the baman. The management need to ensure that there are adequate staff to deal with the demand.

There is no excuse for serving up cold food.

We are sorry that you had an unsatisfactory experience. We had a function at lunchtime on that day which caused some delays to other diners.

We have asked our staff in future to make sure that anyone eating a main course towards the end of our service hours is offered dessert before the kitchen closes.

“Beautiful Meals Served at a Leisurely Pace”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

Visited the Old Mill on Sunday as it allowed dogs in and were so impressed we returned later in the week. Calm surroundings, a leisurely meal (not pushed out as soon as we got in) and beautiful food. Starters (soup for 2 members of the family and goat cheese tart for the other) were presented well and tasted divine. The main roast dinners were well cooked with tender meat and well cooked veg. We had no room for dessert which was a shame. On Thursday one member of the party tried the cheese mushrooms (don't try it if you're on a diet). Tasted beautiful though! The fish and chips were also very good - best we've eaten in the South of England.

“a little thought and the meal would be excellant”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

The pub as you went in was lovely so first impressions were very good. The staff were very friendly and when the starters of tomato soup and home made pate came they both were excellent. In fact my husband said it was one of the best pates he had had for a long time.things at that point were looking very good.Unfortunately from the time we sat down until the time we got our main course was one hour and ten minutes. One of the staff did come up and say there was a problem with the bell from the kitchen. When the meal arrived it was one of the best sunday lunches we have had,the only thing that was wrong was.............the plates were stone cold.......why oh why would you want to cook something and put it straight on to something cold. Will we be returning ....yes but will be requesting our food on HOT plates this time

We are sorry that you had an unsatisfactory experience. This was an unusual occurrence and was due to a problem with our service lift. The problem has now been solved and this situation should not reoccur. Our kitchen staff are now making sure that food always arrives at the table on hot plates.
