“Excellent food every time we eat here”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

We meet friends regularly to eat here since attending their wedding reception in July, at which delicious food was served. This, combined with the hotel's excellent service made us choose it as our venue whenever we have lunch in the area. Admittedly, we pay slightly "more than average" for the food but we feel it is worth every penny for the quality, the friendliness of the staff (we never feel we "outstay our welcome" if we stay at our table or retire to the lounge for coffee following our meal). Should anybody have any specific dietary requirements (e.g. gluten free, dairy free) the chef is happy to address these and provide a meal of outstanding quality to accommodate. A real joy and pleasure to return to every time!

I booked this hotel as a stopover between Penzance and London, a very convenient location just on the A30.
As soon as I arrived the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. The restaurant where I dined in the evening was perfect, the chef had no problems with my dietary requirements.
They also welcomed my little parsons russell dog with a bowl of water!
For dog owners they also have an extensive garden at the back. So if you need a break from a long journey from the far west this is the place to come.

My wife and I (!!) hired out Monkton Court in its entirety for our wedding on 6th July 2013. We started planning for our big day a year in advance. Right from the beginning Jenny acted as our wedding planner/advisor pretty much!!! Her enthusiasm and attention to detail was impressive and she gave us confidence that all would go well on the day. Nothing was too much trouble and we were also able to give our guests menu choices which is something that is rarely available elsewhere. Joe is a superb chef who goes out of his way to deliver excellence in everything he does. He produced beautiful meals for everyone and catered brilliantly for some of our guests who have special dietary needs (gluten free, lactose free and vegetarian). The hotel itself is warm and friendly and many improvements were made prior to our wedding. We actually felt they were being done just for us!! We hired all the rooms. Each has its own character but all are of a very high standard and are comfortable and clean with high quality period furniture and soft furnishings. They day itself was an absolute triumph and went like clockwork. Special thanks to Leanne for being Maitre d' and MC all rolled into one on the day!! Overall Kay and I would thoroughly recommend Monkton Court as the perfect venue for a wedding reception.

I stopped here for lunch to break up a long car drive and it was delightful. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced and the garden is beautiful. We shared a ploughman's lunch (which contained beautifully rare beef and ham as well as cheese) and the staff divided it between two plates for us without us even asking. Perfect!

Me and my partner attended this hotel for a wedding nearby. When we arrived 4 hours early we were told we were very welcome to check in early. We asked were to go for our room but the receptionist wasn't sure. She said she had only been there for 3 weeks and apologised. Then offered to go up stairs with us and help us find it (very kind) We were both amazed by the cleanliness of the room, lounge and bar area. Not a single bit of dust to find. We had a very comfortable bed and both in the room and troughout the hotel you could see everything was very well taken care off. The only down side i could find was some mould on the outside of the shower in our bedroom bathroom, everything else was spotless! Would I recommend this hotel? Yes and I will definatly return!

This hotel has great potential.
The owners are working hard to renovate this hotel.
We sat with a mag in a quiet lounge for a couple of hours and relaxed fully.
Some areas need better cleaning and you could see into the kitchen on the way up the stairs where things were left out dying the whole of our stay.
Could do better but will go back.

Room Tip: Go for the back it is a busy road at the front of the hotel.

What an lovely place, stayed here twice now, 1st for 2 days and am now on a 2nd visit of 6 days.
Well where do I start.....lovely welcoming hosts from the time you arrive, rooms are beautiful and food (breakfast & dinner) is out if this world, the chef does a grand job, staff are lovely people too.
Would certainly recommend to anyone and would most definitely use again when next down this way.
