We were on a walking holiday around Arran.
I found the meals to be delicious and was the best part of our stay.
The hotel is an old coaching inn and has bus stops outside on the main coastal road.
The setting is pleasant and a stream flows past.
The public areas are comfortable but the floor uneven.
Staff were reluctant to show me the bus timetable and the tides table.
The bedrooms are well furnished, but do not open your window or the midges are liable to swarm in.
The price of alcohol was extortionate and the service slow.

Spent a lovely quiet weekend with my partner at this hotel. The room was lovely with the comfiest bed ..had the best night's sleep I have had in ages! There really wasn't anything we can moan about..we loved the cosy bar, the peaceful candlelit sun lounge at night, the food was great, the owners and staff were all very friendly. We would definitely recommend it to those wanting a nice quiet weekend away.

We were disappointed with our stay at the Lagg Hotel, Arran. It promoted itself as having great cuisine, it didn't. The menu never changed, the food was either over cooked or cold and the restaurant had no atmosphere at all.
The two resident dogs had the run of the public areas of the hotel and lay on all the chairs and sofas. The garden had dog pooh lying around.
Our towels were neatly folded on the bed, but were soaking wet from the day before!
The setting was beautiful and the overworked staff very friendly, it should have been wonderful, but it wasn't. We shall not stay there again EVER.

Stayed for one night, on the only day we did not have a downpour on our holiday. As a result of the positioning of the hotel, the garden was a suntrap, and plenty of people were taking the oppertunity of enjoying the conservatory and gardens.

Although the hotel is old, the rooms have been refurbished and are comfortable and well appointed. I would be happy to go back for a longer stay next time we visit Arran.

We've just returned, again, from a wonderful, relaxing stay in Lagg Hotel.
There is nothing to say but that it is just a great place to return to again ......and again. We're already planing our next trip.
Don't miss it!

Our favourite place in Scotland and one of our favourites in the world. We stayed at the Lagg Hotel in 2006 for four nights and returned for a full week this July. We love the hotel, a modernized 18th century inn, the island, the hosts, Mary and Peter, their dog Campbell, and the fine cuisine (yes, not just "food"--this is the best hotel dining in Scotland, at least in our experience). Everything on Arran is a reasonably short drive away--a half dozen golf courses (I've played Shiskine, Lamlash, and Brodick, and would recommend them all to the leisure golfer), fantastic hiking, both short walks and mountain climbs, historical sites, a very fine distillery, beaches, towns. Warning to those who only want a view of the sea: you won't get that from the hotel, but you need only walk a few hundred yards through lovely woods and past a neolithic burial site...

We had a very pleasant, overnight stay at this hotel.
Its traditional in style but comfortable and is in alovely location. very quiet and peaceful, super gardens.
Excellent food and very welcoming owners.
Very honest owners as well, as when I phoend to make a reservation they were most concerned as to whether their love sick peacock would disturb us as it roamed around the grounds- the answer was no, it didn;t and any noise it did make, we were more than compensated by its wonderful display of its tail!
