“I loved the luxury mud huts!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2009

This is a great place to base yourself, if visiting addo elephant park. the owners are friendly and helpful (they remove a rather hairy looking spider from our hut on our first night!). The huts are great fun, situated in and around orange trees. We ate here on both nights and the food was good honest home cooking. A very enjoyable place to stay.

A very friendly atmosphere. The huts are eco friendly. The meals are exquisite ,served in an African styled hut. Must spend more than one night. If you love outdoor activities Christopher Jn. is an expert canoeist and bird watcher: just contact him for river safaris, mountain safaris and bird watching trips. I will definite come back.

A nice place to chill out in the centre of Addo. The rooms are quite large and comfortable although a little sparsely decorated, and the bathroom is very small.

The social areas are very pleasant - with a few places you can sit and relax, and a nice pool set in the garden. Breakfast was tasty - and was eaten al fresco.

Its convieniently located for the attractions of the Addo area (about 15 mins drive to the elephant park) and a few minutes to the reptile centre.

We stayed three nights in January 2009 and the place was lovely and well organised. Lynda and her family good not do enough for her guests. I had an upset stomach one day and she could not help enough and sent drinks to our hut for me. Her father was a lovely man originally from England. The huts were spacious and clean and was a very unusual place to stay. Went to Addo Elephant Park saw an amazing amount of elephants at a watering hole.

A very friendly family atmosphere! Linda and family look out for your every need. The rooms are upscale, hotel style African mud huts. (The new thatched roof smelled great!) Very lovely décor, my only problem was there was nowhere to unpack and get organized.
(There were no TV's, phone or Internet in our hut, but there may be in some others)
The grounds are beautiful, open, spacious and relaxing. With covered patios areas to read, relax, have drinks and enjoy the outdoors. There is a great small pool and plenty of space to run around and play.
They serve a full breakfast to order. They also offer dinner some nights and we chose to eat dinner both nights. It was a bit on the pricey side but delicious and so convenient it was well worth it!
Last, the lodge is only about 10 minute from Addo National Park, where we spent one of our best days(self driving) and sunsets (Jeep tour) in the 6 weeks we toured Africa.

We stayed at Chrislin with our 5 month old baby in March and although everywhere we stayed on the Garden Route was lovely, Chrislin was extra special. Accomodation is in individual African style huts, which are beautifully furnished and decorated. Ours was a luxury hut with a fridge, king size bed and a great shower room, there was air conditioning which was much needed and loads of space. The site is very well maintained, car parking just a short walk away and very secure. There is a small pool which we never managed to use (too much to do!) which is overlooked by huts with seating areas. The food was great - we ate there both evenings and everything we had was simple but excellently executed, and as a vegetarian I was very well looked after. The dining area is also very atmospheric under cover but looking out onto the grounds, ideal for stargazing between courses and very sociable, we got to meet other guests without feeling you were intruding. I would recommend having some insect repellent - my husband was fine, but I seemed to attract the mozzies sitting out in the evening. Chrislin is easy to find and ideally located for Addo Elephant Park, at first we searched for accomodation within the park, but to no avail - but this was only a short 15 minute drive. But the biggest thanks goes to the wonderful hosts, Linda and her daughter in law Margaret were so warm and welcoming. They really took to our little girl, and nothing was too much trouble, at dinner a play mat was brought out so she could lie on the floor while we ate and when we asked about booking game drives, they were insistent that we book on the sundowner drive (no kids allowed) while they babysat. Now, our little one isn't the easiest of babies - but I could see she would be so well looked after, that we took them up on it. During the day it had been all about elephants, hundreds of them! Although we also say zebra, kudu, tortoises, monkeys, warthogs and probably lots of other things I've forgotten! On the night drive a breathtaking thunder storm lit up the spectacular landscape, it was so amazing it almost overshadowing the wildlife - however the sight of two young lions will stay with me forever... and I'm sure our baby also enjoyed her time being pampered by Linda. All in all a fabulous place to stay - I'd recommend it to anyone. Hope to back there again sometime.

We can certainly agree with all the great comments about Chrislin. We stayed in one of the luxury huts, and spent our day at the Addo Elephant Reserve ..... two of our most memorable South African Adventures! Great value for money, and it was a special moment seeing Linda waving to us as we drove off the next morning .... felt like we were leaving home! Wish we could have stayed longer.
