My friend and I were lucky to stay here in May, we found Happy Lands by chance. We could only stay one night but would return tomorrow if I could. The hosts were welcoming, kind and very knowledgable. Stunning setting, great room, excellent breakfast.

Family run Happy Lands Lodge, part of a citrus farm, was a perfect base camp for exploring Addo National Elephant Park and Schotia Private Game Reserve. Everything on the premises is made with love – Nita is looking after the lovely farmhouse-style rooms with great care and Mike’s scrambled eggs are simply fantastic. The pool was a very nice extra after the game drives, and the gardens are gorgeous. If you come to the area, don’t miss to spend a couple of nights here.

I really don't understand the high ratings for this B&B on tripadvisor. It wasn't anything special, actually, it was quite bad.

We arrived here late in the evening. You'll have to pass about a mile of stofpad (dirt road) to get to the B&B. The rooms show their age and are clearly in need of updates. It felt and looked a bit dirty - old bathroom, damp room, noisy ceiling fan and a dirty mosquito net over the bed. No airco. I ended up removing the mosquito net and using it as an insect screen for the door, which I left open during the night.

The bed was ok. There was an old fridge in the room, which was ok.

The worse part came the next morning. I wanted to go for a dive in the pool but the water was cloudy and it smelled. I got in to my knees until I decided I'd better get out. During breakfast their smelly and obtrusive dogs kept bothering me. I dislike dogs and the entire situation with them got me on edge, let alone their nasty smell. It left me just wanting to get out of there as fast as possible.

The owner wasn't very approachable. Very closed, not passionate about his B&B at all and he only showed up in the morning to bring us the bill.

Will definitely not come back.

When we read this negative review about our B&B, my husband and I both asked ourselves the same question: “Is this review about our place? Is the writer not confusing our B&B with somewhere else?”

Above everything else, we, as the owners, pride ourselves on offering warm South African hospitality and friendliness to each and every one of our guests. And judging by all our other reviews, this quality has been felt by everyone coming to stay with us.

Our 3 beautiful Labradors are part of our B&B. Our guests love them and they love our guests!

We pride ourselves on our immaculate garden, well maintained rooms and high standard of cleanliness. We are constantly looking at where we can improve and upgrade our accommodation, always aware of maintaining our high 3-star rating.

Stayed here for two nights. Mike and Tina made us feel so welcome. The accomodation between the citrustrees is stunning. The kids loved the dogs and the playarea. The breakfast was a real treat. We were sad that we had to leave but we definitely be back.

Very friendly hostesses, very nice room, very nice pool, very nice surroundings and we had an OUTDOOR SHOWER! We liked every bit of our stay. The owners went very far out to welcome and help us. The rooms were big and nice beds with fluffy pillows. And they had very friendly dogs.

We stayed in this B&B after having visited the Addo Elephant Park. Although we only booked a couple of hours ahead, everything was ready when we arrived (including dinner!). We got fresh lime-juice (so refreshing) and had a nice dinner on the patio with the other guests. It was really a great evening. Although the B&B was run by friends of the owner (owners were on holidays) – everything was perfect and we really felt like at home. We had good discussions and learnt a lot about oranges. The B&B is in the middle of a citrus farm and has a large garden you can walk around. There are not a lot of restaurants around, so if you can have dinner there – do it! Road to the B&B somehow not too easy to find….

Room Tip: All cottages are named after different oranges - choose whatever you like

We stayed at Happy Lands for 4 nights, with our 5 month old daughter. Stunning setting, fabulous host (thanks Ryan), evening meal provided was wonderful and very much appreciated since eating out with a baby can become hard work! Couldn't have asked for a better stay. Hope to come back one day and test out the new zip line...
