The food is really excellent at woodall. The location is also very good for visits to Addo Elephant park. The villa's are OK, plenty of room, could however be updated.

Stayed here for 3 nights towards the end of a 3 week touring holiday. Woodall provided by far the best accommodation & service we had throughout - & we stayed at a number of 5 star establishments. Wonderful suite with absolutely every need thought of,superb 'tasting' menu, very friendly & informative 'front of house' & impeccable & invisible service of rooms. Award winning wine list - wish we had known more about S African wines ! Lots of tips about where best to see game in Addo National Park (we were self driving but Woodall can provide guides if required) - & taking their advice we managed to see a really good range of game.Wonderful massage & facial in the spa with most delightful therapist.

We stayed only 1 night in Woodall, but it was a great experience. This is a 5-star top hotel with a wonderful guest house feel and real personal service. We were welcomed and showed around by the owner, James. The entire staff was friendly and helpfull. It was winter, cold, wet and quiet, so we were upgraded to a luxury suite which was big, warm (gas fire place) and extremely luxurious. Woodall has an eye for every possible detail, which makes it a genuine 5-star place. The gourmet dinner was excellent and the breakfast lavish. Woodall is a place to remember and to recommend, which we will definitely do.

Come the 17th of May each year, my wife and I usually take a night away from the kids to celebrate another year of marriage together. This year we returned to Woodall Country House and we once again treated to friendly service, delicious food and an opportunity for long romantic walks.
A full moon greeted us for supper as we feasted on Pear and Brie soup. My wife had the soul for her main course which was melt in your mouth good. I went for the rack of lamb which in itself was worth the visit.

Luxurious rooms with their own private pool, make for romantic times to remember.
James and Debbie always overwhelm us with their kindness and generousity as hosts as well as their attention to detail in all areas.
Thank you to them and to all the staff at Woodal for making our stay so wonderful.

After a long drive and domestic flight, we arrived at night and were welcomed by Eduan, the perfect host! We had refreshment towels in rose water and Eduan organised our main course as we were too late for the full diner. The room was...incredible: 2 rainshowers and a large bath inside and a rainshower outside. The breakfast was also very elaborate and the staff were all very helpfull and friendly. The 6 course diner was succulent ! Each course was outstanding! And when leaving our car had been washed ;-)
Just one minor detail was that in the information map they ask you to consider the environment and turn out lights etc when you leave your room. But everytime we did that and came back to our room, the bedlights were on.

We indulged by staying in one of the garden suites at Woodall. Although not much to look at from the outside, this was wonderfully spacious, with a large, high-ceiling bedroom with canopied bed, a separate, small sitting room, and a large bathroom with an additional outside shower for two. All of the rooms in the garden suite open onto a totally private plunge pool with sun loungers. Service is friendly and top class, including five-star touches as car cleaning, bed making while you're at breakfast, a daily news sheet, lemonade and nibbles by the pool, sundowner snacks, free sherry and port, and even a reasonably equipped gym. WiFi is available but fairly expensive and with limited connectivity away from the main building.

Meals at Woodall are excellent: the seven course tasting menu at R285 per head showed good kitchen skills with the exception of occasionally overcooked meat and fish; the breakfast buffet was outstanding, including smoothies and juices, a wide range of cereals and preserves, cheeses and cold cuts, and well executed hot options. Highlights were the best eggs Benedict we've ever had and a superb omelette with smoked salmon, goats cheese and spinach. The wine list is extensive but good value with plenty in the sub R150 range.

Woodall is almost in the Addo Elephant National Park (where elephants outnumber lions by 250:1), so even if you retrict your activities to the hotel itself, you're still surrounded by wildlife; the verandah where meals are served overlooks a pond and island with teaming bird-life, including two white swans and a stunning black swan. The hotel arranges nature drives, although these can be a bit long and expensive (a day-long drive was R980 per person, lunch included). The alternative we chose was a self-drive through the park, which costs just R140 per person and also provides access to trails. Someone will try to persuade you to hire them as a guide (at R140 for two hours), but our experience (and uploaded photos) demonstrates that you don't need it!

I wish we had, had more time, we only booked a weekend. What a beautiful place. The big rooms couldn't be nicer, one of the best beds I have ever slept in. We had some Karoo venison which was out of this world... and they bake bread on site and even have their own herb and vegetable gardens. We went on a game drive in the Addo Elephant Park where we saw elephants kudu, zebra and ostrich.
We are defiantly going back for a longer break there as so as possible
