Beautiful colonial spot at the top of Zuurberg.I have to commend all the staff on their friendly, efficient service. we were unlucky with the weather-rain and mist- so we will undoubtedly be back to appreciate the spectacular views that we briefly saw on the morning of our departure. my only disappointment was that there wasn't a raging log fire at dinner!

We recently stayed at Camp Figtree with our two boys (4 year old and 21 month old). As the title suggests, Camp Figtree, really is heavenly! From the freshly baked muffins in the morning to the tasty homemade soup in the evening, sitting next to roaring log fires or enjoying the breathtaking view from the "stoep", this is the place to go to find peace and to relax.

Our two boys enjoyed splashing in our own private pool and the staff were so helpful and kind to them, especially Nomfundo who is a real asset to the Camp Figtree team.

Do yourself a favour if you are ever in the Addo area - visit Camp Figtree. We will most certainly be back!

Nice spot within the bushlands of Addo. We enjoyed the view and the pool a lot. The friendly stuff is helpful and well organised. The game drive was good. Also the meals where ok. Our room was a cottage style house pretty big with its own terrace and pool.
minus: all guests where pretty old and the whole ambience was a bit of british bourgeois upper class... Not a very funny atmosphere but calm.

Whilst the journey up to Camp Figtree takes a little longer than anticipated, this is mainly due to the mountain roads and fantastic location of the accommodation. There are genuinely uninterrupted views across valleys and onto mountains in the one direction and all the way to Port Elizabeth in the other direction. The sunsets are exquisite but we didn't make a sunrise, probably because the beds and bedding are so unbelievably comfortable we didn't want to get out of bed in the mornings. The food was top quality, not a wide choice at dinner but what you do get is delightful. If you do have any special dietary requirements they take these on board at the outset of your stay so be sure to tell them. Their wine selection was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend Camp Figtree as a fine place to stay.

Room Tip: All of the rooms have wonderful views

Has to be the highlight of our South African trip, glorious rooms or if your prefer suites, finished to the highest standards, great staff, unbelievable position up on the ridge, lovely grounds and swimming pool - just the perfect place to relax even without trips to Addo Elephant reserve.

Arrived after 12km gravel road and 2km private adventurous road at an amazing location! This is a real stunning and remote place to stay.

3 types of rooms: superior, superior boardwalk and luxury. Superior ok without view to valley, superior boardwalk little better but feels little let down, luxury is MUCH better for +150R pppn. Great view and private balcony, heater, huge bed, big bathroom with bathtub and shower. All over this WAS a good place, presently we felt everything was a LITTLE rundown. Hiding damages here, missing wheel on chair there, hair in the drain (not ours) in the bathroom, smell outside... Little things around alike staff: hanging around on chairs almost sleeping and not reacting when guests pass by, one "manager" who seemed to be chief cook and bottle washer.

Breakfast: just ok, but for 4stars and 2200R pn far too low quality and varity!
Dinner: quality ok, soup not too creative, main dish very exotic mixture with ok quality. Overall not worth 220R! Better dine down in Addo.

Problem: price and quality don't seem to match.

Enjoyed the view very much though!

We found this on tripadvisor. after a couple of days in the main Addo camp, we wanted to see the Zuurberg section and Fig Tree seemed well placed for this. you dont need a 4xx4 but care is needed in a standard car as the track is bumpy. the historical connection with Percy Fitzpatrick, explained to us by the Maitre D and set out in the colonial communal area is fascinating - anyone who hasnt read Jock of the Bushveld should take it with them and read while there. The views of the Zuurberg are among the finest we have seen in Africa and we watched the sunset while eating a spelendid supper .. Visit the Zuurberg and do one of the walks (no dangerous game here) - take plenty of water and good footwear. Our only little gripes were lack of sensible arrangments for early mornign tea! and several minor maintenacne tasks needed ( but then I'm an obsessive DIYer)
