Addo Afrique Estate
Ranked #17 of 23 Addo B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 17, 2014

I had never quite experienced the thrill of South Africa so acutely as when my Husband and I took a walk around the lovely Addo Afrique Estate. Being on foot and so close to marvellous Creatures such as Bush Buck, Kudu, Ostrich, Warthogs and Impala, we felt the exhilaration of the African Bush like never before. We'll have to save a close encounter with the 3 Giraffes for our next trip, we only saw them in the distance as they were the other side of the Estate.
Addo Afrique is situated with beautiful views of Addo National Park, and from our Bedroom Balcony we saw Elephant, Zebra and many Buck roaming the Open Plain in front of us. And at night, that African Sky...Wow! You've never truly seen the Milky Way until you've seen it from somewhere like this lovely Place.
The Lodge is decorated in a beautiful African Style, and is kitted out with everything you need. There is a TV complete with DSTV, although it never got switched on all the time we were there! There's just so much to enjoy of the African Night.
A Family Braai rounded the evening off beautifully for us, followed by Drinks on our Balcony, listening to the sounds of the African Bush and gazing up at that wonderful, wonderful Sky! A unique experience, we would recommend it to Everyone.

Lovely views overlooking the open hillside of Addo park , plenty of game to watch while enjoying a cold beer in wonderful and comfortable surroundings . Family was with us to enjoy the experience .
So enjoyable watching the elephants stroll to the watering holes in the early evening.
Also enjoyed a piping hot shower in the open while watching the game. Also took a lovely stroll around the bush , saw the three giraffes and plenty of buck .
Both bush buck and kuddu came so close to the lodge , it was amazing.

Room Tip: Top bedroom rooms have the best view of the Addo Park

We stayed for 3 nights along with friends and family and hired the complete bunglow having 4 bedrooms along with the living room and kitchen. It has generally good facilities slightly above the general BnB standard, Property was neatly maintained
The best part is the location, overlooking the area of addo elephant park and provides you complete isolation with all modern facilities. family of a care taker looks after for your needs and they had good hospitality. Most of the attractions were close by
No WiFi available
When it comes of value for money, i will rate it quite overpriced

We stayed for 2 nights to explore the close by Addo Elephant National Park and were a little disappointed. The place is not manged by the owners, what may explain why it lacks all the attention to detail that we found in the many other (cheaper) BnBs we stayed at in South Africa. It has generally good facilities slightly above the general BnB standard, but Addo Afrique did not manage to create very welcoming vibe and atmosphere. Lights were turned off and it looked a bit dark inside at times. The house was build in 2007 but looks and feels a bit older than that. While we were given some advice on what to do in Addo Park or Private Game reserves, we did not really feel convinced on what was the right thing to do. We did not see any giraffes on the property but were told by other guests they were there indeed. We did see quite some other game on the property though. No Wifi available.

Now, having said all this, we do not think Addo Afrique is a bad place to stay at. There are only 3 rooms, it does feel more exclusive than some of the bigger BnBs around. Location is good and not too far at all from the main northern entrance gate of the Addo Park. The view on Addo Park from the pool area and upper rooms was great. Breakfast was allright (but not better than in average BnBs), the BBQ dinner was nice and much better than in the Addo Park's only restaurant.

Compared to other BnBs it is overpriced. We did not get the "wow feeling" that many other guests might have had. Based on what we read in tripadvisor before we got there, we were disappointed at first but still enjoyed our time!

We have just had a 2-night package and what can we say! This is such a special place nestled on the hillside overlooking part of Addo. The lodge is amazing and our room on the upper floor was just perfect (we even braved the early-morning outside shower on the balcony with only the monkeys and giraffe watching!). Moses and his wife look after you to perfection and nothing is too much trouble. It really is a magical place, sitting with a drink by the pool watching the wildlife is so relaxing.

Thanks to Moses, our wonderful host: We had a great stay and a very good time in the Addo Afrique. I would definitely recommend the 3-night-package and the Honeymoon-Suite to relax in the whirlpool after an exciting day :-) . Hope to be back soon: cu Moses...

Moses is a wonderful host and we had a perfect two nights. The rooms are very comfortable, tastefully decorated and offer a real wildlife experience with game (and monkeys) right outside. A perfect base for visiting the nearby Addo Elephant park or private game parks in the area. Moses is an excellent (and attentive) cook, and prepares a range of typical southern African cuisine.
