This past weekend we participated in a trial run and mountain bike event in the Zuurberg. We wanted to stay close to the area where the events took place, required catering for the whole weekend and stay in comfortable lodgings with enough space and also have enough activities to keep the kids entertained as well. We were 3 families with kids ranging from 2 to 16 years old and we used 4 different rooms.
What a special weekend it turned out to be. The rooms are spacious and have all the necessities and luxury extras that one can think of. There is lovely grassed areas, a heated rock pool and a warm spa, beautiful views across the valley to enjoy both sunrise and sunset and the central dining and entertainment area is great.
Our hosts, Magna and Rod, made the weekend even more special. They are on top of their game, know the area very well, are both super cooks and their warmth and enthusiasm made the meals and sundowners even more enjoyable.
The meals very fantastic - very tasty snacks with the sundowners, kudu steaks to die for, a large tasty breakfast that will carry you through the day to the next wonderful dinner. Well priced wine list with enough variety to cater for all tastes as well.
To Magna and Rod - thanks for a wonderful weekend, we will be back for next year's event and know already where we will stay.

Me and my bf spent almost 3 weeks in SA traveling and we think this was the most perfect place to stay. It has the luxury you need when reaching a certain age (no more camp fires after 40) but it still has the hospitality of a guest house instead of the (only) nice professionalism of luxury hotels. They are located right next to the Addo Elephant park and the guy who runs the guesthouse is a ranger, too. They have 2 dogs on the premises but a) they are used to guests and were really nice calm dogs (but I know that if you are afraid of dogs it doesn't matter) and b) the owner offered putting them away in his own enclosed garden right next door. So no need to worry about it :) Don't miss the bbq they offer - there we had the best Kudu steak grilled on the open fire! If we ever come back to SA we will definitely stay here again - more than just 1 night....Sarah & Chris

We had a fantastic stay at these beautiful rooms. Grounds were absolutely lovely and right next to large orange grove. Went on a brilliant game drive the Rod, the co-owner who completely knows his stuff, was patient and very friendly. We brought our two young kids and it was a great place for them as well.

We stayed 2 nights in bush cabin number 2 with it's outside facilities & amazing views, glamping at its very best with very comfy beds. Everything that is required for cooking/preparing a meal on the braai is there, however we opted for the B&B option which was great, fresh muffins, croissants cereals etc as well as full English. We also had an evening meal which was superb, sundowners on the upstairs balcony followed by a steak & pork braai with amazing fresh veg. Rod & Magna were the perfect hosts, Rod is so enthusiastic about the wildlife & conservation in the area we wished we had done a trip into Addo National Park with him maybe a little pricier than Addo but I'm sure we would have learnt alot more! We hired the quad bikes & did a trip around the citrus groves & saw the giraffes the highlight of that day for me! I'm sure we will return & will definitely recommend to family & friends

Wow – what an amazing place, the chalet was beautiful, great size and clean. The views were amazing over orchids and a little lake! It was very peaceful and comfortable. A delicious breakfast was served on the deck overlooking the lake. Dinner was recommended at a lovely restaurant not too far away. The hospitality and service was warm, helpful and friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer but we will definitely be back!

We spent a couple of simply splendid days in one of the wonderful bush cabins. we arrived on a rainy day after a series of minor mishaps and major detours. it´d been a very long and trying day and we were anything but bright eyed and bushy tailed. to be honest about the last thing we felt like doing was spending a couple of days in the bush. but thank heavens for rod. with great kindness and vast patience (gosh we were grumpy and ungracious...sorry, sorry!), diplomacy and much tact (great people skills!) he lead us along short path to our fabulous bush hut, helped with essential luggage and supplies (do yourself a favour and pack small, seperate bags for your stay here and reduce hassles) and left us space to mellow out. it took about 10 seconds for us to realise what a lucky choice we´d made. this is a wonderful place. perfectly equipped, immaculately clean and well maintained, exceptionally comfortable, charming in every way.... all done with flair, flair, flair! don´t allow ANY of the comments re bumpy roads (they aren´t very), bugs+spiders (only a few) to put you off. just book this exceptional property. it was THE accommodation highlight of our trip. we enjoyed every minute and really didn´t want to leave. there´s everything you need for preparing meals but if you want to be lazy book a catered option or drive the short distance (approx 10km´s) to lenmore´s farmstall and restaurant. good steaks, pizzas and groceries. rod and magna have thought of everything and there´s not a five star hotel on the planet that can compete with the luxury of a hot outdoor shower, mini-lapa loo with a view, a zillion stars and sweeping views from bed. the quiet evenings on our deck were the best of the whole trip. we opted to self cater and had the ultimate luxury of the peace and privacy we crave. just the thing after a long day in the national park. our only regret is that we didn´t book for a week. i can´t think of one single thing that i didn´t enjoy here and so very many that we did enjoy. but the very best of all are hosts rod and magna. and we thankyou, thankyou, thankyou...we will be back, we miss you already!

we spent one night while visiting addo. Its beautiful and Rob and Magda are super hosts. The rooms are large and clean and the dinner is a must. Snacks on the balcony followed by a lovely pork and lamb braai with all the trimmings and a fabulous desert. reasonable at R180 per head. The game drive is a fabulous experience if a little pricey - R660 for about 4 hours. Rob is a knowledgeable and very interesting guide. All in an experience I'd love to repeat one day soon
