“Great with Family and/or Friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

We have been going to Tryall for over 20 years and have gone only with the family, as well as with large groups of friends. Our daughter was married there, and this year we went with a large group that included people of all ages. Everyone loved it.

If you like tennis and golf, it is great. Or, if you just want to sit by the pool and read, nothing is more relaxing. The villa staff's will take great care of you and not having to go out to dinner will be a real treat for the whole group.

Room Tip: All the villas are great, but we can definitely recommend Cielo, Sugar Hill, and Viviana. They all...

We were lucky enough to win a trip with other members of our company. We enjoyed the wonderful Villa called the Roundhouse. The staff was amazing - they cooked amazing meals, kept our rooms and laundry clean (twice a day) and were so attentive to our needs. Our butler Morris was very entertaining! The rooms were beautiful and the views were amazing! Grab your golf cart and head to the beach cafe where you can have breakfast or lunch with breath taking views of the crystal blue ocean. Enjoy a rum punch as you walk along the water's edge. A slice of heaven, I wish I could stay longer! Beautiful people where "no problem" actually means "no problem!" Much Respect!

If there is ever a place you say Ya Mon, it's at Tryall Club. I was fortunate to qualify for a trip with the company I work for to visit this magnificant property for 4 nights, probably about 35 days too short.
From the second you arrive you are treated like a 5+ resort does. Each private villa has a superb staff from the awesome butler, gardener and cook, and the amazing maids who will do anything and everything for you. I certainly do not like to take advantage of people, but any request you had, the staff went over and above. The food was outstanding, the villa we stayed in (No Le Hace) was stunning. We did visit several others which were also gorgeous. Although I didn't play, the golf course is beautiful.
Awesome massages too.
The only minor downside, is the beach, which wasn't like it is in Negril, but you have your own private pool which I guess makes for it.
Nothihng bad at all to say.
Highest compliments to all of the staff and this great property....and thanks work for recognizing some of your best people....much Respect!!!!!

Went here with family last week.Staff was very nice and accommodating. Place is beautiful. If you are a golfer and tennis player (how pretentious, only tennis whites??)--you'll be happy here. BUT.. if you are a family with small children...take a pass.
It's VERY limiting in what you can do. No beach to walk on and no places to visit. Their beach is small, and rocky. We went there once and decided our Villa with pool and beach front was better. ( luckily our beachfront Villa has access to ocean from our "private beach" which had sandy floor.)
Very disappointed with experience because in my opinion, it is NOT a family resort --- unless you play tennis or golf.
I also just noticed TravelmomOTG posted a similar reaction on her TRIPADVISOR posting.

We are truly sorry that you’ve concluded that Tryall is not a family-friendly resort as we do try to ensure that we offer activities that will delight guests from one generation to the next.  One of the primary advantages of staying at Tryall is the villa experience.  We have villas ranging from one to ten bedrooms; ideal for small to multi-generational family vacations.  Our villas provide intimacy and the opportunity for togetherness that is hard to replicate at a typical resort.

We have an excellent nanny service with over 40 nannies available at quite reasonable rates. Our nannies are trained in CPR, swimming and childcare and are a great plus.

The Hummingbird Kids Club has received great reviews on the engaging activities offered. These include scavenger hunts, crab races, tie-dying, beach Olympics, shell and rock painting among other things. The activities are changed on a daily basis and provide guaranteed fun! A nanny can accompany children under five to the Kids Club and parents are more than welcome to attend and be part of all the enjoyable happenings.

For parents who wish to spend more time with their children alone, we have multiple games and DVD’s that can be borrowed from Guest Services. Many villas also have good DVD collections and games.

Additionally, children can expand their horizons by learning a sport through our golf school or tennis clinics! We also offer a range of complimentary activities such as watersports like kayaking and paddle boating, hiking trips, bird watching, coastal discovery and heritage tours and a games room which is ideal for teenagers.

Again, we are deeply sorry you didn’t have the positive family friendly experience that many of our other guests have experienced. Here are a couple other Trip Advisor testimonials you can read: “Infinity House at Tryall Club, Montego Bay, Jamaica and “Absolute Paradise”.
We hope you will give us another chance.

We have stayed at Infinity and Bougainvilliea and really enjoyed both experiences with lovely, accomodating staff who were especially sweet with our two young boys.

The management staff at Tryall is outstanding!!!! When we had a medical emergency with someone in our party, the manager on duty, Chef Kai, came to our villa with security and the nurse within 10 minutes of our call at 10 pm at night Then the General Manager, Jerry Giarlo arrived and personally drove family members to a medical clinic about 40 minutes away, stayed until we were done and drove everyone home again at 2 am.. Everyone was incredibly concerned and helpful and called to follow up the next day.

The highlight our week was celebrating our 10th year wedding anniversary with private dinner scheduled for 2 at the Gazebo. Chef Kai had multiple conversations with us to recommend a menu. When we requested fish, he solicited local fish merchants and drove to our villa earlier in the day to show us the beautiful fresh fish caught that day that he would prepare for us. The meal was inventive and delicious and more than filling, with multiple courses, including organically grown vegetables from the Tyrall garden picked that day. When the evening turned out to be windy, the staff who had created heart shaped palm fronds all around the gazebo, quickly improvised a more protected but equally beautiful and private location, lit with paper lanterns and decorated with pink flower petals in heart shapes on the ground and lots of candles. Everyone put in a tremendous effort to create tihs special memory for us. It was a beautiful way to spend our anniversary.

Room Tip: The premier are amazing. Loved Inifity and Bougainvillia

We just spent the most incredible week at Infinity (March 23 to 30, 2013). It is like a small ultra-luxury hotel, except that it is private! Everything is first rate: furnishings, bedding, dishes, etc. the pool is bigger than most hotel pools. Beyond the facilities, what really make Infinity special is the staff. The chef is fabulous, the butler terrific, the gardener great and the housekeepers tremendous. Everyone is kind, attentive and wonderful. The best vacation we have had, and we can't wait to go back next year. A total 5 star experience. Truly perfect.

Room Tip: Any vedroom is great, but the Blue Room ad te Master have great views.

What misled us was the fact that most of these reviews were about individual houses or Villas within the club grounds and not specifically about the club itself. This was our 5th trip to Jamaica. Previously we have stayed at Half Moon Resort - two different private houses in Discovery Bay and a private house in Old Fort Bay near Ocho Rios. We would not return to this club or Villa and would rather revisit any of our previous accommodations or try something new.

Sundance - Our Villa:

There are many properties to choose from, my mother-in-law chose this one because it met our space needs, was considered "premier" category - (btw - premier category simply means how long ago it was built and how recent the furnishing are) and the price was right in comparison to our other choices. The house was nice, and the staff did a good job. However, the price was more than we had paid in the past, and the overall feeling of "luxury" was lacking in comparison. It did not have a view of the ocean only a small slice of blue in the distance - but we knew that before we went. The pool was big and deep and cold, but not actually good for us, since we had small children who needed a shallow end and since we had cool weather, not many of our family got in the pool - too cold. Unlike many of the other houses we stayed in, this one did not come with many extras, games, books, pool toys, bikes etc. On the plus side, it did have a huge lawn that worked well for the kids.

The Club:

Was disappointing to say the least.

PROS:

Beautiful location on the hill and lovely grounds and landscaping. The Club building themselves were dated, but I did not mind that. I like places with history and there was or could have been some grand elegance about the place if they tried a bit harder.

Wednesday Night Barbaque at the Beach: This was done well, good family entertainment, very good food.

Friday Night Reggae at the beach: Also well done and fun for the family.

Golf - I'm not a golfer, but for those in our group who did play thought it was a beautiful course and enjoyed themselves.

Tennis: We had an avid tennis player in our group, and he thought the tennis accommodations were fine. We are not that formal, and usually get the whole family out to hit a few balls and give each other lessons - but with the "all whites" rule, only a few of us got out there to play.

I'd say that this is really a golf and tennis club - both activities were usually busy.

CONS:

Kids Club. Huge disappointment and all of the advertising about it is very misleading. We were not the only family there to feel this way. I would not leave my child at this club - it was a zoo the one time we went. First off, it says the club is for 5-12 year olds (my children are 7 and 9) we came to drop them off for a shirt tie-dying activity lasting just for a 1.5 hours and then we were going to pick them up for lunch. My son was the oldest child there, most of the kids were under 5. We did see 4 or 5 what I assumed to be nannies sitting on a couch talking while I guess the kids they were watching were were running around. There was no organization to the event at all. It was promoted as being by the pool, but it took us 4 phone calls to find out it was not. The only had size 2-4 shirts for the kids to die. So my kids made shirts for their small cousins. My husband had to stay with them the whole time, he did not feel comfortable leaving them. Then we picked up our shirts - they told us they were $15 each!!! at no point did it say there was a charge for this activity. On top of the cost of the villas that was supposed to include use of the club, we paid $100 per person as an extra "Guest" charge. The kids club was supposed to be included in that.

The Club Pool:
The Pool was completely deserted the entire week. There was no attendant, no towels, a few chairs with no cushions. The swim up bar looks like it had not been staffed in many years. It too was cold and in a location where it is always windy. The water did look clean, but when I went in one time with my daughter, we had scuba masks on and could not even see each other 6 inches away - too cloudy. There was a pool light that came undone and was dangling with a long cord in the water. I did see a life guard once. He walk by, said "Yah mon" and then disappeared, never to be seen again.

Bar/Nightlife/Music
If you are looking for any type of "after the kids go to bed" type of activity. Even if it is only a drink and maybe a little local music - don't expect much - or better yet, don't expect anything at all - regardless of what the "schedule" says.

Spa

We did not book any treatments, but like the rest of the "other" amenities (other than golf or tennis that is) I would not expect much.

Beach

I'd say the beach experience as maybe a 5 out of 10. They did have all of the basics, and for $$ tip you could get a nice set-up with chairs and towels. There were kayaks and equipment to take out. But the beach was small, and slightly rocky - like they trucked in the sand to make it. In the main swimming area there were sections of seagrass/rocks and on rough days it was hard not injure your feet since you could not see where the clear areas were.

So unless you get the right Villa - one on the water or with a grand view, heated pool and something more for the kids (if you have any) and your main interests are only golf and tennis, I would try a different resort.

Here at Tryall, our #1 aim is to exceed our guests’ expectations, so we are truly disappointed that your expectations were not met.

We’re of course, quite pleased that you enjoyed the Beach Bar-B-Q and Reggae Night and we’re also delighted that members in your group enjoyed the golf and tennis experience here at the Club.

There are over 80 lovely villas to choose from at Tryall and even though you didn’t book your stay directly through the club, we wish you would have asked for the specific amenities you needed such as a heated pool or games for the children, as these could have easily been offered.

We do try to ensure that all our guests have all the information pertinent to their stay prior to their arrival. This is done through our travel agents and pre-calls. These channels ensure you are aware of our dress codes, shopping options and the like.

The Kids’ Club does cater to children under the age of five as long as they’re accompanied by a nanny.

We are also saddened that you found a lack of activities, as you visited The Club during one of our busiest periods when there were multiple activities. Some of these include:
Our weekly Manager’s Cocktail Party
Karaoke
Scavenger Hunt
Tennis Clinics
Happy Hour
Yoga Classics
Golf School & Beach Volleyball

We have noted your displeasure with The Club pool and we will investigate this incident and ensure that it does not recur.

We apologize for the miscommunication regarding the T-shirt and the Kids club activity that took place at the pool. We are sincerely sorry for the inconveniences you experienced which led to you having a less than perfect stay.
