3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2010

Good quiet place to stay, villas need updating, smelled like mildew, bed horribly uncomfy, but we never expected 5 star. Loved the outdoor shower! We still had great fun, everything you need is in walking distance, car/scooter hire just across road, you can use the next door resorts pool & they have a great restaurant & cheap cocktails! Great restaurants close by. Snorkelling outside villas we found was better than Muri, not good for swimming though, & loads of glass on the beach.TAKE INSECT REPELLANT & CREAM FOR BITES!!!! Good place to stay but don't pay full price!

We stayed for 2 weeks earlier last month and I was very impressed with the service and quality of the rooms. The villa was quite small but it was clean, with a nice bathroom and kitchen and comfy bed. The service was excellent, with regular hotel service every day from the main caretaker Ramon, including even the dishes being done for you in your kitchen which was a nice touch. So was the complimentary champagne in our room as a honeymoon bonus.

The view from our beachfront villa was perfect and we received a nice large breakfast every morning right on time. We also received complimentary transfers to and from the villas from the airport, even though our flight was 2am at night which was a very nice extra.

For the Cook Islands Raina Lagoon villas is quite expensive for what it is, but we cant fault the service we received and would be more than happy to stay there again.

One small gripe though, there is no TV in the rooms, and with 100 degree afternoons when you have to sit under the air con it would of been nice to have something to watch, but apart from that you cant get much better in the Cook Islands than Raina Lagoon Villas.

very good spot, but the sea if full of corals and safe swimming is quite difficult, especially at low tide. There are no beach umbrella, only shade under the trees and it is impossible to find this later on in the afternoon. The villas are neglected. We arrived with a curtain hanging of, sliding door to bathroom broken, no Air conditioning control. Only one comfortamble easy chair per couple. No cushions for wooden dining chairs. Towels were only changed on request, the balcony not been wiped all week, the kitchen is poorly equipped (one cereal bowl, no frying pan, crockery cracked). Information for visitors out of date (bus fare on the island have doubled since it was updated last). It is a very poor value for the money charged. It could be good, but some attention to detail and upgrade necessary.

It was our first visit to the cook Islands. So we were not too sure where to stay. We booked through Blue Holidays (Virgin Airlines) and took a chance on what they offered. I have to say we scored!!

The place was quiet peaceful and seconds from the beach and lagoon. Great staff (Thanks Ramone) and great accomodation.
I loved the outdoor shower (warm/ Hot) unlike the showers we took in Samoa.
There's a no Kids under 12(?) policy - but as we didn't have the kids with us= it wasn't an issue. Close to the busrout, and with local shops and resteraunts nearby - this was ideal for us. We hired a car and drove to a different resteraunt each night - and were never disapointed!!

You need to obtain a Cook Island Driving Liscence from the Main Police Station - but it was $10 and 10 minutes.

NZ Dollars are the curency - and we found it no more expensive than New Zealand.

A big thumbs up for couples wanting a relaxing break.

  • Liked — Spaceous and well apointed, Clean and serviced
  • Disliked — WE had a garden room - would have loved a beach front one

We stayed at Raina Lagoon Villas (absolute beachfront) for 8 nights on our honeymoon May/June 2007. The view was perfect, and the beach was never crowded. The villas are very spacious; however, they definitely need some updating. The beds and linens need to be replaced as the comforter was very worn looking. The kitchen could be slightly better stocked, and the bathroom redone a little, but nothing major. The balcony was great, and the fresh fruit breakfast was always fresh. Ramon was a great host, and happy to arrange any tours, transfers, etc. for you. I really loved the secluded feeling we got at Raina. Also, I loved being on the west side of the island - sunsets as a perk!

It was nice having Manuia Boutique Beach Hotel next door, as we would dip in their pool and have happy hour at their bar, but then could retreat to our private bungalow. About 100yards down the beach is Waterline restaurant which was our favorite place on the island. The owners Chris and Akisi are very friendly, and remembered us after our first visit there! The food is fabulous, and they just added an upstairs deck for drinks.

This a a wonderful place to stay... 3 nights in the absolute beachfront villa was not enough! The location is perfect... very relaxing, peaceful & romantic- idyllic.
Some attention is needed in the villas themselves, the bathrooms need a 'revamp', the out door shower is wonderful but could do with a 'waterblast' to bring it up to scratch. Otherwise your room has everything you need & the veiw from your bed when you wake up in the morning is spectacular- the sunsets are breathtaking! Good value.. Enjoy...

One of the most beautiful countries/island/paradise location in the world. Our private bungalow at Raina Lagoon Villas was located right on the beach and we watched beautiful sunsets directly in front of our balcony overlooking the lagoon. Probably the most relaxing and enjoyable stays I have ever had. Highly recommended
