From check-in to check-out our stay at the Crown Beach Resort was amazing. The Manager was especially helpful on check in and all of the staff were courteous and attentive. The grounds of the resort are beautiful and it is ideally situated right on the lagoon's edge. Our housekeeper was most knowledgeable and helpful beyond the call of duty. We had a delightful 7 days and will be back.

How often do you experience the gardener bringing a bowl of home grown passion fruit to share with the “yoga people” This is just one example of the wonderful relaxing stay at the Crown Resort in Rarotonga. Every morning I was greeted with beaming smiles, together with my morning coffee just how I like it. Nothing was too much trouble and done without fuss. I loved the finish to the day with a different flower on my pillow every evening. Most relaxing holiday ever.

We have just returned from our stay at Crown Beach, and were pleased that we had chosen it for our stay. We were very fortunate when we arrived, as our room had been upgraded, which was a very pleasant surprise, as it was one of the courtyard suites with a private swimming pool. It was stunning- big room with French doors opening into a very private courtyard, and an amazing bathroom. We were so fortunate, and I'd definitely recommend booking one of these, as we would certainly do so were we to return to the resort.

The resort was placed right on the beach, like most of the hotels are on the island, and had direct access to some of the best snorkelling that we did whilst on holiday, as the coral reef was right on the hotel's doorstep. We were amazed that you could just walk a few paces into the sea and see such beautiful tropical fish. Snorkels and kayaks were provided by the resort, free of charge.

The hotel was not that busy overall- we were never in a situation where we couldn't get one of the 6 sunbeds on the beach, for example. I'm sure there were more to hand, but they just weren't necessary. Happy hour was fantastic, with 2 for 1 cocktails from 3-6pm. However, like another reviewer has commented below, we were under the impression that it was an adults' only resort, but children are allowed to be in the bars, restaurants and beach area that the bar opens out on to. So, when we were sunbathing in the afternoon, there were, on occasion, kids running around, usually during the 3-6pm happy hour. I just think if you advertise as being an adult only hotel, your facilities should be, too, or you should inform your guests beforehand that children are allowed access so they can make a fair decision about where to stay.

The staff were generally fantastic- the bar staff in particular were very attentive and always met you with a smile. Some of the reception staff were excellent, too, although I've never stayed in a 5* hotel where one of the receptionists told me to "call the company yourself" after they'd booked a tour for us one night and I was enquiring whether I should inform the company that I was vegetarian.

The place was very clean, and set amongst the most beautiful flower gardens. We made use of the spa, too, which was just fantastic and definitely recommended. The windjammer restaurant lacked a little atmosphere, but the food was incredible and worth a meal at.

On a minor note, if you do stay here, ensure you do all your research that you might need to do on the Internet before you arrive... Not only was the Internet slow and pricey, but twice we lost our credit despite following the hotel instructions, and when we mentioned it to the aforementioned receptionist, were told there was nothing she could do about it.

I know I have mentioned a couple of negatives here, but they are quite minor, and we were really glad overall that we had chosen to stay here. It doesn't have the touches you'd quite expect for a 5* hotel- the bar closed early when it was not too busy, for example, and there's no room service once it does, so a couple of nights we arrived back after dinner at about 9pm and couldn't have a drink anywhere. However, I think that the more laid back attitude is the island way, and that this would be common across the 5* hotels. I am writing this review not at all to put you off staying, but to encourage you to go whilst being aware of the minor downfalls that can be worked around if you know about them. We'd go back.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and go for a courtyard suite.

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed the ultra private Courtyard Pool Suite with the high stone walls, private swimming pool and outdoor dining gazebo.

Our team of 85 Cook Islanders ooze the art of Polynesian hospitality with service straight from the heart: Warm. Unpretentious. Island Style. We are equally pleased to read that you enjoyed interacting with our caring & happy staff.

Our 5 acre gardens boast the largest collection of hibiscus varietal blooms and exotic palms sourced from all over the world. The gardens are accentuated by fresh water gold-fish-filled streams and ponds which originate from five waterfalls strategically placed around the resort.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed dining at our restaurants: 'Windjammer' with her fabulous authentic Italian cuisine; and Oceans Restaurant featuring Pacific-Asian cuisine with breathtaking views of the beach and turquoise lagoon.

All in all, it was a pleasure to look after you both and we look forward to seeing you again, soon.

We got married at Crown Beach Nov 2012. Our expectations were exceeded in every way. Tangi our wedding planner covered every detail. Fortunately, early in our stay we clicked onto "Island Time," chilled out and stopped trying to organise our relatives/friends that were simply having a great time anyway.
We highly recommend the Courtyard Poolsuite Rooms for their privacy. Beautiful, quiet, your own pool to cool down in that tropical heat.
Windjammers: We paid approximately $1000 for 20 people. Worth every cent. Delicious menu, excellent service. Thank you!
Cultural Show and Buffet: Awesome. Go on Thursday night. Great value for only $55. Show performed in the bar outside so it's nice and cool too. Don't forget to arrive early for the happy hour (2-3hours?) for some yummy cocktails. The deal is 2 for the price of 1.
Beach: gorgeous. We didn't swim here. Apparently, a little rocky? But, not a problem because we had our private pool, the resort pool and there's plenty of other places to go in Raro.
Service: always delivered with a smile. Our room, the pool, upkeep of the garden was immaculate.
Island Time: Our meetings with Tangi, wedding celebrant, Windjammer manager, photographer were "on time."
Complaints: We only stayed for 5 nights and I didn't drink enough cocktails.
Solution: Go back for our wedding anniversary!!!
Thank you to Tangi and Crown Beach Resort for making our special day more than we could have ever imagined!

Once again I was fortunate to facilitate a week spent practicing Bikram yoga with Senior Bikram teacher Lucas Miles. The staff made everything flow like the yoga. Pre yoga class smoothies made by Moe at Oceans Resturant and the ice cold 'Nu" (green drinking coconuts) after class. Our brunches at Oceans were long and relaxed and the staff soon became familiar with the fact we were not always on time and were not phased at holding the breakfast menu for us.The cocktails at happy hour were a great way to relax into the evening together on the beach at sunset. Thank you to the Chefs, Mii and all the staff at Oceans you made the Resort feel like our home. Carl; your care of the grounds, beach and gardens made my daily walk through the resort a pleasure and the fruit you picked from your own garden which you gave to us was confimation of the warm island hospitality that prevailed through out the Resort. The housekeepers kept our rooms clean and refreshed daily with towels, amenities and warm smiles. I look forward to bringing more yogi's to indulge in a week of great food, island hospitality and yoga.

Room Tip: Unit two was definitely the pick having larger lounge and deck areas. The refurbished garden Villas...

Overall a good stay.

When we first arrived the welcome wasn't what i was expecting, we arrived and were pretty much just given a smile and shown to our room, in other places i have stayed they like to sit you down and welcome you and tell you about the place etc, so not great to start. (it was Sunday evening though, most places don't even open on sunday there)

From there it only improved though, the grounds were very nice with ponds and little waterfalls around the place and lots of gardens.

Being on our honeymoon they had a bottle of wine in our fridge for us. We had a courtyard pool suite that had very tall stone walls surrounding the courtyard for privacy and a private swimming pool which was awesome, I will always be on the look out for rooms with private pools from now on for future holidays.
The room good, and quite big, and so was everything in it, super king bed, double shower, a bath and more.

One of the three on site restaurants was closed while we were there but the other two were very good. The main one 'Oceans' was very good, and was open for breakfast lunch and dinner with triple happy hour from 3-6pm which we made good use of with the good selection of cocktails.
When busy the food could be a little slow to come out, but for us this wasn't a problem, we wern't expecting it to come straight away, its not like we had anywhere to be anyway....

The other restaurant 'windjammer' was more of a fine dining experience, an Italian restaurant where i couldn't find anything to complain about.

A bad thing about the place though was the beach, the sand had too many shells and rocks and the main part of the beach was too rocky for swimming and snorkelling, i would recommend leaving the resort for that and swimming in the communal pool or getting a courtyard pool suite.

Room Tip: courtyard pool suites are awesome for privacy and have plenty of shaded and unshaded area for what e...

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We have listened to valuable guest feedback and have made changes to our check in procedure. We used to offer a full orientation on arrival - however - overwhelming guest feedback indicated that new arriving guests preferred to get to their villas without delay, unpack and change into summer clothing and have a quick dip in the lagoon or pool. As such, we have modified our arrival / check in procedure to get arriving guests into their rooms as soon as possible. Guests who prefer a full orientation on arrival may do so by remaining behind at reception.

We specialise in honeymoons and make every effort to ensure newly weds are a high priority.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your meals at 'Oceans Restaurant' - with a Pacific-Rim menu; as well as our intimate fine dining 'Windjammer Il Veliero Restaurant' with modern Italian cuisine.

The high tide washes up shells and stones onto the beach - our gardening team beachcomb once a day to provide a sandy profile. Our lagoon is ideal for snorkeling, between tides, when the water is still and crystal clear. We are making arrangements to create a nice swimming area in the lagoon. The end result should be fantastic.

We hope to see you again, soon.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights over the Easter break. We were expecting as advertised an adults only property. Tricky thing is kids are not allowed to stay on the property but they ARE allowed at the restaurant which is right in the middle of the resort. Why people think they need to bring their small children to dine at a adults only resort is beyond me but there were small children at every meal. If you are looking for a Adults Only child free holiday this is not the place to stay.

The beach in the pictures and brochures is shown as white sandy beach, what they do not show is the beach is full of shells and rocks and you need to wear shoes to avoid cutting your feet on washed up shells and sticks. You also cannot swim here, you are able to snorkel but there is large coral everywhere that requires shoes. If you do swim be careful the waves will hit you into the large coral. There are kayaks and snorkels for use but if you just wanted to go for a dip you are best to get one of the pool suite rooms.

The rooms on a positive note were very well appointed. We stayed in a Garden pool suite which was great because you could not swim in the ocean so we used the pool often. Also it is surrounded by a large rock wall which allowed for privacy and was away from the noise of the restaurants and wedding area.

I recommend renting a scooter it is a great way to get around the island, however if you are looking for white sandy beaches, ocean swimming and child free holiday I suggest you look somewhere else. We made the best of our stay but we will not be back to this property.

Room Tip: Go for the pool suite garden room if you want quiet and privacy. The beachfront rooms have a hot t...

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your constructive feedback about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to read that you loved the ultra private Courtyard Pool Suite with high stone walls, private swimming pool and outdoor dining gazebo.

High tides wash up shells and stones from the lagoon - indicating a healthy marine ecosystem in the lagoon in front of our resort. Our gardeners comb the beach once a day to remove stones and shells and other debris that washes ashore. Swimming shoes are recommended for all beaches around Rarotonga, and are available for purchase at many stores around the island.

The best time to snorkel in the lagoon is between high and low tide. If you swim at high tide - you should expect to be tossed about by the waves generated from the crashing surf on the outer fringing reef. Importantly, we have signs around the beach area cautioning swimming & snorkeling at high tide.

Crown Beach Resort & Spa is an adults only resort, however, we do permit families to dine at our restaurants. Our restaurant staff have been briefed to speak to mothers to ensure their children are well behaved. Families usually only come in for dinners, enabling a child-free experience for the rest of the day.

We hope you continue to holiday in the beautiful Cook Islands.

Best wishes,
