My husband and I decided on Rarotonga as a wedding destination, partly from our experiences in the past and partly from peer pressure - in the end it was the best day of our lives and we couldn't have asked for better service. After a bit of research we decided that the crown beach resort would be the perfect wedding venue, we had approximately 60 guests flying over and we appreciated the fact that they had every detail listed in there wedding handbook and essentially all we had to do was to check a few boxes. Amy in particular was incredibly helpful, notifying us of any changes as soon as she had the info, and really making us feel at ease with the whole process. On the journey over to Rarotonga as a surprise my parents had upgraded our room from the garden suite to the courtyard pool suite, the only bad thing I can say is that we didn't get to spend enough time in there! The room was fabulous, the tea/coffee supply was plentiful, sheets were clean, the bathroom was gorgeous - the room in general exceeded our expectations. The wedding day was fabulous, not once did one of the resort staff come up to us with any issues, they kept my mother informed of the alcohol tab and when it was getting low, not once did we have to say "when is the food coming" or "when will the DJ start up" - every detail was taken care of. We didn't feel like we were impeding on the experiences of the other guests at the resort as the reception venue was situated away from the guest rooms, all in all we would highly recommend the crown beach resort and spa not only as a relaxing holiday venue but as a wedding destination,

My wife and I stayed at Crown Beach for our honeymoon in June of 2012, and had a great experience all around. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and we were made to feel very welcome by everyone. In particular, Lindsay at the front desk always went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and made us feel especially welcome and gave us many great tips about exploring the island.

I had called to let them know that we were booked there for our honeymoon and as a result they had given us a few small gifts, including a welcome drink and a few snacks in our room, which was particularly welcome after such a long flight.

The grounds were keps very clean, and the facility was fantastic. We chose to take one of the villas with a private pool which was very nice, but the pool was not heated at all, and was unusably cold. The ocean water was significantly warmer. We did ask about this and the staff said there was no way to heat the pool.

Besides the pool, my only complaint was that they have live shows on weekend nights, which the guests were only invited to if they paid the ticket fee. Our villa was somewhat close to the performance area, so the music was loud enough to keep us awake. The combination of not being welcome to enjoy the show, and being kept awake was only mildly disappointing. For the price of the room (You can pay a lot less in raro, and still get waterfront), I wouldn't have expected this to happen.

Overall, 4 stars. Great service, clean rooms, clean ground, clean facilities, we were made to feel special and appreciated and if we return to Rarotanga, we will be back.

Room Tip: The pool villas are nice, because they are very private and offer a lot of space to lounge. The pool...

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We apologise about the pay-to-view policy for the Tina Cross Dinner Cabaret Concert at Oceans Restaurant on Fri 29 June - Sun 01 July 2012. The Concert was operated in partnership with a private entertainment company that applied fixed fees for all attendees. We operated the food & beverage service for the 3 nights. Thankfully, the concerts were programmed to end by 9.30pm averting any sleep disruptions to our valued in-house guests.

We are pleased you enjoyed all other aspects of your stay and we do hope to see you both again on your next visit to the Cook Islands.

We were delighted with the service and facilities at Crown Beach, and would highly recommend the resort to anyone - couples, friends or families. The staff were consistently helpful and friendly, the facilities fantastic, and our courtyard villa with private pool was paradise. We made the most of daily happy hour at Oceans Bar from 4-6pm and enjoyed a number of picture-perfect sunsets. We stayed at other resorts on both Aitutaki and Rarotonga, and this was by far our favourite.

My husband and I had stayed in Aitutaki for 4 nights, prior to returning to Rarotonga, but the Crown Resort did not compare. We had paid the extra money for a Beachfront Villa, sadly both Villa 1 and ours (Villa 2) have no direct view of the beach because there was a 4ft high barricade positioned in front. While snorkels and masks are provided, reef shoes and flippers needed to be rented from the Dive shop 3 doors up the road. We ate at both the Oceans and WindJammer restaurants which provided adequate service and menu selection, the pianist at the WindJammer was a highlight. The villa itself was well appointed but at $760/night I expected top notch resort facilities.

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your constructive feedback about your recent stay with us.

We apologise about the natural palm frond fence on part of the beachfront area which unfortunately obstructs views of the beach for Villa 2 (Villa 1 has stunning beach & lagoon views). The palm fencing was put up on the request of the traditional land owner to reserve the sacred beach for his family.

Our resort operating costs, and indeed of the Cook Islands in general, is high as most product is imported and taxed at high rates. We try to balance our room costs by providing a private beachfront haven for only 42 couples in individual villas to enjoy 5 acres of botanical gardens and 100m of private beach & snorkelers lagoon. We also have a high staff-guest ratio of 2:1 and we pay our team members above the national minimum wage, which is necessary to keep our team members in the Cook Islands, as well as provide gracious Polynesian service straight from the heart: Warm. Unpretentious. Island Style.

We hope you continue to visit the beautiful Cook Islands.

My husband and I stayed for 6 nights here before continuing to Aitutaki.
We do have high expectations, particularly when this was not an inexpensive hotel.... and overall it was nice but certainly didn't leave us with any overall great impressions either.

Unfortunately for us the weather was not so great! Lucky for us we got plenty of sunshine as we moved islands! The beachfront is actually much more inviting when the sun shines on it... so we didn't swim a lot here. You will need reef shoes here to be able to really enjoy swimming without stepping on rocks and coral.
I would recommend a pool villa, the garden villa we had didn't offer any view or facilities to enjoy and was average in terms of cleanliness.
The staff were friendly, but we just have higher expectations I think. Having to request things several times was a little frustrating. Unfortunately we didn't meet any "managers" so didn't provide them with any feedback personally which I would have preferred.

We actually thought the food at Oceans bar was better than the restaurant, and some of the staff worked very hard to serve food and cocktails.
Would have loved to try the spa but was closed the whole time we were there (so we didn't make use of our vouchers..... we also had other package inclusions which it seemed staff were not aware of! Its not enjoyable to have to request things that are supposed to be inclusions).

Highlights......My husband went on a fishing trip with "junior" and he is still raving about it. The chef cooked up the tuna they caught perfectly.
We stayed over New Year's Eve and they hotel put on a wonderful evening with entertainment, music, seafood buffet etc. We also met some other fabulous people here and have great memories of good times chatting with them over drinks.

I really do not want to deter people from coming here, the Rarotongan people are warm and friendly....I really think we chose the wrong time of year. The Island seems to shut down (New Years day the hotel wasn't serving any lunch other than a $65 buffet..... hard when you have had a late night and just want something simple! and there is nothing in close distance).
I would recommend coming when everyone returns from their Christmas festivities....or stay on Aitutaki first.

Room Tip: Pool Villa is a must

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your constructive feedback about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

You stayed in a One Bedroom Villa which is our lead in / standard room category priced at a public rate of NZD600. You have compared your accommodation on Aitutaki with a lead in / standard room category (Premium Beachfront Bungalow) priced at a public rate of NZD990, some 65% or NZD390 more than our rate. Comparisons cant be made between the two room types as they differ greatly in room rate & star rating. If you had compared our Beachfront Spa Villa, then we are talking 'apples with apples'. I am pleased to advise that we continue to upgrade our One Bedroom Villa interiors to present better value for money.

60-65% of our team were on annual holidays in New Zealand & Australia during your stay resulting in a shortage of services over the festive season. We apologise for the slow service encountered at our restaurants; and the closure of our spa on our key public holidays. I am pleased to report that most of our team members have returned from Holidays and the resort is operating normally.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your dinners at our restaurants and had a great time at our 'Soiree Merveilleuse' New Years Eve Gala Dinner.

We also agree with you that sunshine brings out the best in people and the colours of the lagoon, beach, flowers & gardens sparkle more in sunlight. We are pleased to read you had fabulous weather on Aitutaki.

We hope you continue to holiday in the Cook Islands.

Best wishes,

This was the first experience my wife and I had of a resort and it was well worth it. Really friendly staff and front counter personnel - always willing to help with a smile.

The included breakfasts at Oceans were really nice and large and so helped to start each day of right. The pool courtyard suite was incredible and felt like a little resort on its own - definitely worthwhile and we would not hesitate to recommend this resort to any staying in Rarotonga - definitely better than any other resorts we saw or talked about with other visitors.

Room Tip: We had a few nights in the basic villa and then some in the pool courtyard suite, The basic villa wa...
