“Great family style motel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2012

Booked as part of a package it ticked the boxes for price, location and friendly staff. Big rooms, gorgeous beach across the road and places to walk. Fruit stalls abound (pawpaw and bananas for breakfast) and there's a mini-mart for provisions, so with the good cooking facilities you can survive without a restaurant (although there are several around). Plus my son and fiancee came later and stayed too in the two extra beds. Sure you get what you pay for but this is good value.

Room Tip: Avoid the office area, as the late night flights mean transfers with vans and doors banging. Premium...

out of this world, sums up how i feel about this place.,i went over for 1 week and half for my birthday, and could'nt find fault at all,the moment i was picked up i felt i was at home, and was treated as if it was my home, the room was clean from top to bottom and only telling one staff member that is was my birthday,i was greeted with birthday wishes from the cleaners as they did their chores and that was the start, everyone of them took the time to come over and wish me the best,i was also on my own so it made my birthday even better, such a warm and friendly place, puaikura reef lodges is.....the pool and the gardens amazing....everyone staying there were helped one way or another, they helped with transport to even to the best tattoo place in town, the rooms spotless and the beautiful white sheets, after being to many places, this is one place i will return to time and time again.and this place is all about, what you call a holiday..thank you guys i will be back, the owners must be proud of you and to the owners tom and sue a big thank you for having a place that makes you feel welcome, take care all.....be warned i will be back

YUCK just sums it up, We stayed here in March 2012, we are a couple in our mid 20's and were planning to stay here for a budget wedding planning trip, we were put in the room behind the stairs & office, the carpet had stains the ceiling fan only went on one setting and was noisey, the toilet stunk, the shower was borderline non existent to wash hair, the pillows were uncomfortable and the bed too... the tiles dont line up on the floor they are uneven, there were ants on the floor we were staring at a white block wall. The pool had a black ring around it and the outdoor area was run down. The room was also really dark not like bright in the pictures on the website. Not a nice experience and I wouldn't recommend this particular room to anyone.

We were then kindly "upgraded" to the two bedroom beachside "bungalow" an A frame house down the road, which has no security screens on the windows, ripped outdoor furniture, a concrete floor in the bedroom with stinkiy mosquito nets over the beds. No aircon rusty fans. Shower in the ensuite didn't work, heaps of bugs and creepy crawlies outside at night that the mozzie coils didnt scare them away. Mismatched outdoor furniture plastic outdoor chairs inside and a BBQ that when we lifted the hood was full of ants, a burn hole in the kitchen bench, a disgusting dresser that they told us they would remove that had a chewed off leg and was all wonky. Doesnt have two bedside tables as per the photo and is generally yuck! I couldn't sleep and was crying because I couldnt sleep and thought it was so awful!

The big gekos were inside because none of the windows didnt have any security and they click all night at least at our other accomodation only the little ones could get in and they weren't scary!!

The owners offered for us to move to their new resort but it was only recently purchased and the rooms smelt old and used not fresh, we chose to go back to the place we had stayed at 2 years prior on muri lagoon and it was heaven compared to this place.

If your one for budget accomodation and don't plan spending much time at the resort fine, but if you like a clean modern room dont stay here!!! We forfitted our money that we had paid for the trip and paid alot extra to stay elsewhere....

YUCK YUCK YUCK

Room Tip: Don't book a standard stuido room!!

Thanks for your review and the time taken to write it. It is always extremely helpful in assisting us to lift the bar and strive for the best. Please be assured that all of your concerns have been noted and we will immediately rectify any problems reported and take steps to ensure that others do not feel this way.

Occasionally we do have people who do not fit with our product and are more suited to a 4 - 5 star resort. I know Lotu our manager did her best to re accommodate you and we also gave you the opportunity to move to our new beachfront property but you already had your heart set on returning to a former property and paid in full.

We do hope that you enjoyed the remainder of your stay and again thankyou for raising these issues so that we have been able to address.

Kind regards
Sue Fletcher-Vea

The rooms here are lovely and fresh. The pool outside was easy to get into and we generally lazed around. The staff were friendly and Lottu took care of all our needs. We used their snorkle gear and spent many hours in the lagoon across the road looking at all of the different colourful fish. Great place for couples or families. They organised car hire for us and transfers to the airport. Great people, great place

We spent 5 days at the Puaikura Reef....We were met at the airport by the staff at the hotel...The rooms were clean and tidy...and towels replaced each day...and we also had a small kitchen area where we would prepare our own food.....There was a small table and chairs placed outside our room where we could spend time relaxing with a glass of wine etc..but there is no bar at this hotel....so any wine or refreshments had to be bought at the store next door...where there is also a small cafe...The swimming pool was clean..with lots of tables and chairs round the sides....staff were helpful and accomodating.. and if we needed to hire a car/scooter they were on hand . We hired bicyles and toured the island..There is a bus stop across the road where you could get to the main town within 20 mns.....with lots of shops and restaurants.......the beach could be reached by just crossing the road....the sunsets were fantastic...The office at the hotel closed at around 5pm .......but there was an out of hours telephone number to call if the need arose.....The caretaker/gardener was a lovely person....showing us the various flowers surrounding the hotel and how to open a coconut...

There was quite a lot of mosquitoes...and sand flies .so i would recommend making sure you take good repellent with you before you go.....

We would definately go back again.....while it still remains relatively unspoiled...

Room Tip: Dont choose a room near lots of trees.....as there is a good chance of mosquitos etc...Highter floor...

Had the wow factor. Lotu had excellent communication skills and was able to answer any questions about anything we needed to know about attractions and food places for us on a budget.Clean and tidy and better stil beach just across the main road and cafe next door and a store for any little things we needed and the bus stops. Would stay there again without hesitation. the cleaners were on the ball every morning too..Love Love Loved it

Room Tip: the one above the office

Our stay at Puaikura didnt feel like just ordinary accomodation, it had more of a community feel to it. In the morning guests would be mingling in the communal courtyard, the care taker picking and breaking coconuts from the poolside tree for them to enjoy. When we would walk to our room (2) we would be greeted by other guest enjoying the same view from their balcony areas. Puaikura sets this atmosphere and it helped make us feel secure during our stay.
We found the service here to be superb. Fresh towels even when we didnt need any! There is nothing that the staff would not go out of their way to help us with. 5 days scooter on the house was a bonus! They were most accommodating even after we checked out in the a.m as out flight wasnt until 2am, holding our belongings and still making us feel welcome and taken care of. Thanks Jaz and Leron in particular for being so super! PS Don't compain about the roosters, you're in Raro- and you do get used to them!
