“Thanks Puaikura Reef Lodges”
Reviewed December 4, 2011

This was our first time in Raro and we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay in your lovely island; we were impressed with the rooms, the service by staff especially Lotu who was very helpful and well organised. We felt safe and very welcomed; we really made the place our own - enjoyed the BBQ with families and friends who also visited the Cooks even though they did not stay at Puaikura Reef Lodges they were all welcomed. Thanks once again for your hospitality and professionalism. The family enjoyed the pool and the beach just across the road; we will be looking for another excuse to go back and will definitely stay at Puaikura Reef Lodges.

This is a great place to stay as well as a beautiful place to stay if you are looking for an authentic raro experience rather than the plastic version. The rooms were clean and spacious. The hotel is situated across the road from the sea and within easy reach of the bus stop, bike and kyak hire and food- especially local papaia. The price is reasonable. The gardens are splendid and well tended by staff with care as is the garden pool. Local staff are cheery and helpful. A place to rest and enjoy and one not to tell too many people about as they might well spoil the serenity provided by hotel and beach.

Room Tip: Make sure you are aware that you need to book a room if you arrive off the early plane at 6.45 rathe...

We had a lovely stay! Great to have your own space and deck to look out at the beach just across the road! Very friendly staff. Most things are in walking distance. Would go back again :)

We have stayed at Puaikura Reef Lodges a number of times over the past few years and after the first time in 2006 we would not consider staying anywhere else. We have always found it to be a most enjoyable experience. The staff out perform in providing service and keep the cleanliness of the units up to an excellent standard. They are friendly and always make us feel more than welcome. We look forward to seeing our hosts, Tom, Sue, Lotu, Lile & Ruby, each time and they always endeavour to make our experience unique and more than meet our expectations.

Room Tip: Superior Studio or Superior one bedroom

This is my forth visit to Rarotonga and I have to say I choose to stay at Puaikura Reef Lodge every time because of it freindly service, lovely big rooms and fantastic location. There is a petrol station with internet next door also a small cafe with big screen playing mustc and TV if you ask, thats were we watched the rugby world cup.Theres a dive shop that also hires bikes & kayaks and there is a bus stop right across the road.We always choose a poolside room and love to watch the sun going down in the evening across the road.We will definitley be going back.

Room Tip: Poolside my favorite:)

After looking at the Puaikura Reef Lodge’s website and reading some reviews on here my partner and I were expecting a pleasant accommodation, worth the $180+ a night. However, what we received was a dirty, old, run-down room. We found 3 cockroaches during our stay, mouse droppings over the kitchen utilities under the sink and numerous ant trails throughout the bathroom and kitchen. After asking at reception for our room to be re-cleaned, all the cleaners did was make the bed and change the towels. No one followed up with us during the 4 nights we were there to check the cleaners had actually done what we asked. It appeared to be the grounds of the Lodge that had the staff’s greatest attention, which were beautiful, but people are more interested in staying in clean, comfortable rooms, then looking at manicured gardens. After the cleaners had “cleaned” the rooms, they also failed to lock the door afterwards, even though it was locked when we left. Luckily nothing went missing but it’s a courtesy to leave a room how you found it.

The only good thing about this accommodation is its location, literally across the road from one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. While the staff were helpful with booking island activities, when it came to following up on customer satisfaction it failed miserably.

Rarotonga is a lovely island and the local people are so friendly that this poor accommodation experience didn’t deter us from enjoying our stay, however next time we return for a holiday, Puaikura Reef Lodge will be the last place we would book to stay.

Thanks for your review and we always take feedback seriously. Cleaning is something that we work very hard to ensure is up to a high standard. We are always compliemneted on this at Puaikura Reef Lodges so was upset to read that this was less than satisfactory in your case. Your complaint was taken seriously at the time and we asked our cleaners to come back and do a thorough clean in your room. They did go through all of your concerns and we were under the impression that these had been rectified. I do apologise that our lovely office manager did not follow this up with you and for that we do take 100% responsibility. We do have 2 news cleaners so have this week really made very clear what our expectations are and our normal high standards.

Spaying for tropical bugs is due to be done at the end of November which is our low season (can not be done when we are very busy for obvious reasons). Unfortunately in the tropics we do have ants and cockroaches and this is just one small price to pay for living in paradise. This however is by no means a sign of uncleanliness!

With regards to rates the price of your unit was $129 per night not $180 but this is still no reflection on what you can expect with regards to service and cleanliness. We will make sure that these are addressed immediately so others will not have the same experience. We have also contacted you via email to speak to you personally.

Kind Regards
Sue Fletcher-Vea

Had a great week here, nice quiet hotel, right across the road from a prefect almost deserted beach. Fantastic beach bar just up the beach and local cafe/shop right next door. Room was huge with full kitchen, staff were really friendly and helpful.
