“Holiday Jan 2013-AWESOME”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

Just returned from Manuia Beach and was sorry to leave after 9 fantastic days. Loved the no kids policy so very relaxing around pool sipping cocktails and lazing in hammock. Our beachfront Unit No 2 was Excellent as just be renovated, awesome view of lagoon and nightly sunsets just far enough away from restaurant & pool so no nightly noise. Managers and staff very friendly and good value and always very helpful in every way. Scooters a must and so much fun and can be hired across the road (car hire also) and necessary to get around Isalnd. Other Restaurants in walking distance. The Spaggitti House very resonably priced. The Crown Resort 10 minutes walk up the road does lovely Spa treaments Ladies. Thanks Alex & Loren for an awesome time - "We'll be back!"

Room Tip: Any Beachfront Units are great but 1-4 are the best as not so near to Resaurant.

During our recent stay at Manuia Beach Resort (our second stay at this beautiful resort) we were fortunate to be there on the the night of the Island Experience. Having been to many of the Island cultural nights, this was indeed a unique night. Starting with lessons in head ei making, then a demonstration of coconut husking and grating to make coconut cream, about 15 of us sporting beautiful flower 'crowns' went on to learn how to tie the traditional sarong and then how to make raw fish. A traditional dance demonstration by a beautiful cook islands dancer followed.
We then went into the restaurant on the beach where we had a beautiful island buffet. The food was without a doubt the best island buffet we have experienced in Rarotonga. It is a definite must for everyone and excellent value.

We travelled over Christmas 2012 for 3 nights. The room that we were given needed renovating and was very ordinary, not what we expected after researching photos and reviews. We were shown the renovated rooms but weren't offered an upgraded or discount for our stay.

In our initial booking we booked the Xmas Dinner, the discripiton of the menu emailed to me sounded wonderful. On christmas day we were told the menu had to be changed as the chef had left. The Manuia instead offered a set menu lunch, the food over cooked and tasteless, the service for the small amount of guests attending was very slow. We were also told breakfast included some fantastic pancakes, the morning we went they decided not to cook any, apparently that can happen.

The staff were friendly, the accommodation clean and the location is fantastic.
This resort has so much potential, I hope it can improve.

Room Tip: Renovated rooms

We travelled over Christmas 2012 for 6 nights, and the resort was awesome. We were upgraded to beachfront on arrival and the views on the first morning were fantastic. For the rest of the stay they didn't change.
The room was recently renovated & it showed. They have done a great job with the renovations and once completed the hotel should be very nice. While the renovations were going on behind us, they did not interfere with anything we doing.
All the employees were helpful throughout the hotel, and made the stay more enjoyable. The restaurant had great food & cocktails with us eating the majority of our meals there. Breakfast in the morning was very good, the pancakes are worth getting up for.
We will hopefully make it back to the resort as we had a great time. I couldn't not recommend staying at the hotel more.

Room Tip: Opt for Beachfront if you afford it.

We were moved to this resort due to a problem with the booking of our original choice and at first thought we were very lucky. We were given a beachfront room which was large and newly decorated. There was a king bed which was far too soft for us and not very comfortable. However by far the worst part for us was the renovations going on right behind our room - the continuous noise (from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. on some days) of a cut-off saw was really annoying and spoilt our stay. The housekeeping and restaurant staff were really friendly. After 3 nights we were told that a room in our original resort was available and we moved there. We did receive a phone call from one of the managers to apologise after we moved but maintenance needs to be better planned.

6 days in december 2012 - a party of 3 people. This is an interesting resort. Its very pretty, very friendly and seems to aim for the middle market price wise. While the price is definitely around middle+ in terms of rarotonga resort ladder, the quality and prettiness of the product overall is right up there with the top resorts on the island. The other interesting issue is whether this resort is 'boutique' as stated. If we take the U.K./US definition of a small (non large corporation resort type), unique to the rest on the island, quirky, different , etc ... then I would agree. It certainly has something about it.

Pros:
- Excellent food and cocktails.
- very friendly resort staff and that includes everyone we dealt with.
- We were upgraded to front bungalow with great views onto the ocean.
- There was a Christmas party at the resort for one of the nights so the 3 of us were given a choice of going to Highland paradise dinner+show worth approximately 90 dollars per person. The resort management certainly did not have to do that and the show and dinner was top notch btw.
- Rooms clean, specious with modern equipment. The outdoor enclosed shower turns out to be a great experience.
- Resort clean and well maintained.
- Very good location, stunning views - its really hard to find something wrong to write about it.
- Management interested in your experiences and willing to improve the experience.
- great location, close to the airport, car/scooter/bike hire facilities, close to town.
- its on the western side, hence you get a lot more sunshine the resort on the easter side.

Cons:
- I might be wrong about this but if I remember correctly the wireless internet prices at the resort were almost twice as expensive as the ones in main town, despite using the same gateway provider. If that is correct, then i would expect the management to rectify that. Also, the front beach bungalows have a very poor and unreliable wifi reception, but that can easily be fixed by installing a $40 wifi repeater in the vicinity.

What we would have liked:
- From the outside the bungalows do look polynesian, however we thought that a bit more of a polynesian style on the inside would have added to the charm and 'boutique' feel of the hotel.
- The food is excellent, but I would encourage the management to take a bit of plunge and add some more of the polynesian dish specialties to the menu. I mean, its an exotic hotel, it serves exotic cocktails hence why not do the same to the menu?
