Had the most fantastic holiday, lovely people, lovely place, lovely weather. Stayed at Edgewater, suited us perfectly. If you stay with a group, get ground floor studios together and congregate out the front. Edgewater had everything we needed, great value for money. Best restaurant we found was Tumunu (5 mins walk) from Edgewater, great atmosphere.

well if you area new zealander travelling to rarotonga, you will first encounter the smallness of the airport in comparrsion to other overseas airports,it takes a while to get though there customs, but once in ask any one they are truely warm friendly people, they just want to reach out and make people feel right at home with there holiday, and will go out of there way tomake people feel warm and welcomed
BUT the best way to expereince rarotonga if staying in a resort or private is the get the travel agent to make arrangments to have a scooter delivered to where you are staying, this way this gives you instant moble accessmake it for the time you there, it works out cheaper that way, causethey are really competive so tell the travel agent to look around for a chaep one to hire , cause these things are all over the island, and good way to travel, if you dont a lience no matter, they cost $16 dolars and can be obtained at the local police station in a matter of a hour or two.
if your a drinker then dont buy from resorts they are really expensive , lots of small outlets over the isand that you can buy liquor at a much lower cost. the weather is wonderful and the best is too lay on one of there beach laybacks and specaily late at night and just wowww look at the sky is is truely magic , no polution.
if your a church person , dont get sucked in to what the resort you are staying in has in way of offering in the way of church services
there are churchs all over this island you want to travel on your scooter then you will come across lots to chose from ,an some areally nice.
the busses are called clockwise, and of cause anti clock wise and they travel around this island in accordance to what they are advertising, they stop any where you only have to wave them down and they stop, not a bad way of travelling if you wnat to work on a schedule.
roading is hard though lots of small drive ways but hardly any signage to get to the inner road , but once into the inner road it is truely wonderfull , not very wide but truely wonderfull to expereince.lots to see. the main road is wide but not as wide as new zealand roads and watch out for scooters and oh yes chickens , lots of chickens runing all over there roads.
experencing resorts is a fun thing to do also, just take your bike stop at any one of them and look around they dont mind that, and some of them have rides and some thing to expereince at the water front which isnt always advertise.
shopping in rarotonga isnt too bad, meat is expensive, and lots of small vegetable outlets over the island on the road way for cheap vegetables compared to the supermarkets, but meat over there is regulary available at supermakets , justa bit more expensive, but not too bad,
the most expensive thing is the entertainment at the resorts , like going out to have dinner at one of he resorts, can cost between $ 25.00 to 70 dolllars for a evening out with entertainment and food .so if on a budget and there for a week it can work out to cook in your room, and pick th night or nights you want to expereince. lots also to do around there pool areas , they just want to reach out and teach you al about things to do in rarotonga and educate you in the way to do them, most resorts will post what they have to offer at there reception area every day, like i said before all you have to do if unsure is to ask and they just love reaching out to help you enjoy your holiday.
swiming is great and lots to see and do in the small lagoon that surounds the island , but warning , dont go past the reef thats dangerous it is a drop of over the reef.
speed limit for island is at 40 km/h and open road is at 60 km/p,
lots of bars on this island , so you want have a problem with that.
peopl are exceptionally freindly and caring.
just have to watch at times some of the locals that hang out at these resorts they can click on to you, and then find it hard to get rid of them, so that you can enjoy yor holiday and peace of mind , and do what you want t do , they are ok , just pestering at times.
if your there for a black pearl , then again go out on your scooter , lots of out lets for these as well and also competive so a you can get a good one at alow cost.
the glass bottom boat is worth doing,
pefume factory is worth doing
horse riding is worth doing
inner island safari is worth doing
so lots to do , probably wouldnt go longer than two weeks other wise , you may find your self bored and starting to look around to find work in order to find some thing to do,

WELL THATS RAROTONGA, GO BACK AGAIN , YES I WOULD ,
LOVELY PEOPLE, SO FRIENDLY AND CARING

Most things on Rarotonga seem overpriced and the Edgewater is no exception.. For $200 the accommodations are underwhelming and the grounds are lacking.. however, the place does grow on you, especially when you realize that most everything on the Cook Islands is a bit ragged and unpolished. It kind of adds to its charm. However, for $200 I do think it's overpriced... I would try a self-service accommodation next time.

We have just returned from staying at the Edgewater in Rarotonga. We found the Edgewater rather tired and would suggest staying in the beach front rooms rather than the garden rooms which we stayed in.

If you are keen on snorkelling I would recommend that you take your own snorkelling gear or get up at 6am to go get it. We asked 3 times on different days (once at 8.30am in the morning) for some snorkelling gear and all they could say is "sorry none left" we found this really anoying as one of the main reasons of going to Rarotonga was to snorkel in their beautiful water. We discovered people come very early and take the gear back to their rooms and don't return it till the very end of the day.

Also a warning about the concert dinner if you are a couple. Book for the dinner and make it clear that you have prepaid for the evening otherwise you will get seated at a table with complete strangers. This didn't happen to just us, it happened to at least 6 other couples. I felt this spoilt the night.

Overall it's an ok resort if you're on a budget. Waiting staff could be a lot more friendly they could learn from the cleaners!

We found the resort clean and tidy. Edgewater seems like an older resort. Could do with an upgrade in some areas.

The dining room staff and reception staff at times seemed very unhelpful .... (Even downright rude to some). The cleaners and ground staff were very helpful and polite. It was great to have easy access to organizing car/bike rentals at Budget Rental onsite at Edgewater The staff at the hire centre were easy to deal with and very friendly.

Breakfast at Edgewater was tasty and the variety of food was great. Over-all the restaurant food was presentable and the place seemed clean and well-priced.
Great views from the outside eating areas to the ocean and the sunsets incredible.
Wonderful swimming and snorkelling from the beach.
Go to Edgewater Island night if you can...great value and wonderful food & entertainment.
