“Overpriced, terrible service !! Our group won't be back !”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

The food and drinks at the restaurant is so expensive. A bottle of coke is $8 and $18 cocktails are just a rip off ! One member of our group of twelve ordered calamari for $20 and only got 8 calamari rings. The restaurant staff were very rude saying to us to sit outside in the pouring rain to have our dinner. Also when we were leaving the edge water to go to the airport we rang for the luggage cart to collect our bags in the pouring rain. Unfortunately it was very late so we had to walk all the way from the villas because the luggage men were busy raiding the left over alcohol from the empty rooms. We were soaked for our flight home. Not impressed and that's 12 people who won't be coming back!

My wife & 3 kids have just stayed at this hotel/resort. Unfortunately there appeared to be a major sewerage issue at the hotel. With windy days this meant a constant terrible smell of raw sewerage all around our 2 units. Staff & contractors appeared to be working on this issue but in the 3 days we stayed there it was never solved. We were lucky that we had previously booked another far superior hotel for the remainder of our holiday.
The rooms are very standard & the beds very uncomfortable to sleep on.
For the money spent I wouldn't go back here ever!
Staff were great however.

Room Tip: There are none!

We stayed at the Edgewater for 7 days with a mix of wet and sunny weather. This is a 3.5 star hotel but is absolute beachfront. It is definitely worth paying for a beachfront deluxe room which has a great deck looking out onto the lagoon. The rooms are definitely a little dated but are huge - which is a bonus if you are stuck inside because of the weather.
One of the reasons we chose the Edgewater was that it had tennis courts; the pool is tiny but ok for kids. However, why would you want to swim in a pool when you have the beautiful lagoon right there. The beach was never crowded and you could always find a sun lounger.
I would only rate the restaurant as average, although the Spaghetti House at the top of the drive was good. We took a 5 minute walk along the beach one morning to the Crown Beach Resort for breakfast which was nice for a change. Another evening a 10 minute walk to the Manuia Resort and had an excellent dinner at their Beaches Restaurant.
It is definitely worth hiring a car to see the island. Our's was from Island Car & Bike Hire and in typical "island" fashion, the car was left for us at the airport for our 1am arrival - our name on the windscreen and key under the mat ! They have a drop off site which is a 10 minute walk from the Edgewater. As others have said, the bus stops at the hotel every hour.

I stayed at the Edgewater during July for 6 nights in a garden villa. We were a little apprehensive after reading some reviews but were happy with our stay.
The garden villa was modestly furnished but spacious enough for our family of 5 (had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms). Fresh towels are provided daily but a full room service is not provided daily. The tropical breakfast provided was sufficient for us but if you prefer a cooked breakfast this is an option for an extra fee.
Thanks to excellent weather we spent most mornings snorkeling right in front of the resort. Taking the bus around the island is a must. The local bus stops right outside reception. We stopped at the main shopping area and bought some food since the villa has a fully equipped kitchen we ate in some nights.
If you need or expect 5 star luxury then the Edgewater is not for you. We were happy and would stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms close to the pool or restaurant could get noisy

Thank you so much to all the wonderful, dedicated, hard working, smiling, funny, and caring staff at Edgewater. You made our family feel so welcome and at home in Rarotonga. Two months wasn't long enough to spend with you all, and we wish we were still there now sharing stories and laughs.

Thank you to Gina, Agnes and Ani in Kids Club for such a wonderful job of taking care of our girls. You are both the kindest and most patient women I have ever met! We all miss you and your caring thoughts and hugs. Gina, thank you for making us feel like family, I really miss you. And Ani, thanks for sharing your love, I hope you are fully recovered and taking care of yourself and your beautiful heart. Agnes, I miss your singing and your smiles, you are the coolest teenager I know - your parents should be so proud.

Tiki, thanks for making us laugh, for sharing your stories about your life, for being open and honest...and most of all thanks for the awesome Crab Racing!! You are such a funny and kind man, Edgewater is blessed to have you and your family working there.

Johnny, Bob and Peter, thank you for your patience with our crazy kids. Thanks for letting them 'help out' in the activity hut, thanks for entertaining them with your guitars, ukuleles, stories and songs. You are all so funny, kind and hard working. Next time we hope to get out on the Party Bus with you!

Ana and Tapi, thanks so much for looking after the girls when they were 'hanging out' with you at the bar and restaurant. You are both so patient and kind. We miss your smiling faces, and we really hope we will see you both again.

Sulu, thank you for looking out for Zoe and the girls. You were our first Edgewater friend, and we loved seeing your happy face every day. You work incredibly hard, and are such a long way from your family, we admire your dedication and constant smiles. Thanks for being our friend.

Sowani - thanks for the awesome drinks. You always had a smile for us, even though you were working so hard and were so busy.

We miss you all very much, and we hope that you will be there when we come back one day. Enjoy the sun for us, we really miss that too!

Room Tip: We stayed in the long-term villas. Perfect for 6 people.

I was a bit worried because the Edgewater is a big resort but at no time did it feel crowded or packed. There was always space for breakfast or sunbathing. The accommodation was roomy and comfortable, we were in the beach front villa and it was beautiful to sit on the patio watching the sun go down. We had a few days of BAD weather and then the sun came out. The equipment in the activities hut was clean and tidy and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We did a few activities with them, the crab racing was hilarious. The restaurant staff were also friendly, in fact apart from one gentleman at the front desk who said we couldn't play tennis because it had rained even though we saw sooo many people doing just that, everyone was helpful and happy, we really did smile all the time. The housekeeping staff were lovely as well. Breakfast was perect. I loved the fruit and we were upgraded to a cooked breakfast which kept you going till supper. Soft drinks were a little expensive but take advantage of the two for one cocktail hour. We didn't find the food too expensive in comparison to NZ. Tip pick up a map from the airport they have a 10% discount voucher for both the island night and the spaghetti house. Also they let you take your own wine for a $7.50 corkage. perfect. This was a really relaxed holiday, the resort really caters to families and people who want to relax, the snorkeling in the lagoon was spectacular. Thank you for a great holiday, my kids are 13 and 16 and they enjoyed it so much too. Check out the special offers on the web site, we got an upgrade and extras because of the uniform offer and once there we were upgraded again to a beachfront villa. that made our holiday brilliant. This is a great spot to do nothing. Also if you want to hire scooters use the Polynesian car hire office at the resort, its not much dearer than hire places in town and you have the advantage of being on site when you return the bikes, there was a lady when we returned them and she said the test was a lot more relaxed at the hotel than at the police station. Phew.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade, nothing ventured nothing gained.x

Stayed at Edgewater for 5 nights in a garden superior room, nice spacious room that was cleaned daily. Edgewater is right on the beach and has a good spot for snorkling in the lagoon and offers free hire of snorkling equipment. The two island buses (clockwise and anti-clockwise) come right to the reception area. Good restaurant on site as well as Spaghetti house at the end of the drive (also owned by Edgewater) and other restaurants within walking distance. Would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: This is quite a large resort with a huge variety of rooms available. I stayed in a garden superior...
