We have just returned from 8 nights at the Edgewater. We had a 3 bedroom garden villa which was perfect for us. Not the flashest resort and yes the tiles were very slippery when wet but hey, we didn't sweat the small stuff. The servicing of our unit every 3 days was always done to a good standard and our towels were changed every day with yummy fluffy towels. Our air con remote was missing when we arrived but the Maintenance man got on to it asap and turned our unit on manually and by the morning we had a new remote. The restaurant suited our needs in the evenings and the breakfast in the mornings was fantastic. Our kids loved the pool, especially the slide. Us adults enjoyed cocktail hour by the pool. I could go on and on about this place. Staff were all fantastic, bar, restaurant, groundsmen all so friendly (mind you, so were we) - apart from the foreign european guy at the Cultural Evening (not sure who he was but he was not very friendly) The guys at the activities hut were awesome and very informative and there were always plenty of activities on offer. We will be back for sure. Thank you for making our family trip a memorable one. Meitaki Ma'ata

We went to Rarotonga recently for a friend's wedding and stayed at the Edgewater because it was where they were having their ceremony and reception. I had read mixed reviews but it made sense to all stay in the one place and not have to change accommodation over the stay. It's certainly not 5 stars, or even 4 but it doesn't proclaim to be either so I was pleasantly surprised by both the accommodation and the facilities.

After booking a package deal and choosing to stay in a Lagoon View Room, we were delighted to find ourselves staying in a beachfront room (complete with spa bath and balcony), such a treat! We had a beautiful view of sand, palm trees and the turquoise water, certainly a world away from a Christchurch winter!

The tropical breakfast was a good way to start each day with tropical fruit (but no pineapple surprisingly!), toast, cereals, juice and my favourite, the bircher muesli, yum!

Happy Hour (5-6pm) at Mal's Bar was a good chance to sample the cocktails (strawberry margaritas a particular fave!) and at $10 they were more reasonable than their normal $18 price. On the whole, food was reasonably priced but I thought drinks were quite expensive (especially $8 for a 600ml bottle of coke and $6 for a can!).

We went snorkelling (free mask and snorkels for a 2 hour hire at the activities hut) on the beach in front of the restaurant and it was really cool, lots of tropical fish to see.

Edgewater is on the bus route (buses coming at '20 to' the hour, eg - 10:40,11:40) which was handy to get into town. We also got scooters for a day which was heaps of fun, great way to see the island.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms have a gorgeous view and are far away enough from the restaurant/bar to be reasonab...

Just got home from spending 7 nights at the Edgewater Resort in Rarotonga.
Great place to stay. It’s the second time I’ve stayed there, the first time we had the ‘Garden Room’, which was ok. This time I discovered on the internet that if you’ve stayed before you can join the Coral Club and get upgraded. Fantastic, we got upgraded to a beautiful beach front room, champagne and fruit platter in the room, so much better than the ‘Garden Room’.
Really friendly and helpful staff. Free buffet breakfast daily (not cooked, although I think you can order it but will be charged for it).
Cultural night wasn’t as good as the first time, although it was value for money, $65 for 2, (as part of our package) and that included a big buffet dinner.
Great location. Would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: If you don't qualify for a free upgrade, pay the difference for a beach front room - well worth...

We once again stayed at the Edgewater for our Rarotongan holiday. Not the flashest on the island but more than adequate. Meals in both restaurants were good and reasonably priced, staff friendly and helpful as always. Will stay again.

Our family stayed at Edgewater - altogether hired 6 rooms. We were the only one to find the mattress in our room was hard and springs sticking up. Disappointed as spoke to staff at reception and they did not get back to us. Doing up block at rear of resort - new toilets beds etc. Single bed in our room lovely and comfortable, Maybe still doing ours up. bathroom great.
The paths looked lovely - large shells set in concrete, but extremely slippery when wet. Feel would be better getting non slip paint, or sand put on top.
So apart from those 2 complaints we had a great stay - other staff very friendly, Pool staff great when our 7 yr old and other children went up for snorkels/flippers etc.
Good locality for meals as Spaghetti restaurant (part of hotel) at end of drive on road, with very nice food, also available as take-aways,; (large Pizza $25.00); Kikau Hut just down road - great meal, and they had tables all ready by the time we got inside the restaurant, - when 10 of us pulled into the car park, - great service etc. and also a bar few minutes walk from Edgewater, sells the best hamburgers and fish and chips on the island - all $5, and happy hour beers $3!! (Turn left when you get to the road).
Went on safari trip which we all enjoyed.
To the right is a "dairy" shop sells foodstuffs/cold drinks etc.)
Made great use of the Kids Club and swimming pool. enjoyed the fish feeding, and the activities they put on - watching the coconut climbing and information, the parau (sarong) tying, and enjoyed the walk around the streets, looking at the fruits etc.

Room Tip: We had a garden room. Asked for ground floor room. No stairs - and youngster could not climb up on...

Having just returned from a 'girls trip' we cannot recommend the Edgewater Rarotonga highly enough. Having read mixed reviews we thought it sounded one of the more reasonable priced resorts and thought we would try it out. I didn't go in expecting 5 star facilities like some of the people reviewing it (please note its not rated anywhere as 5 star either!) and although it isn't the most super flashy modern place on the island we are absolutely delighted with our choice of accommodation. It is clean, tidy, well run, beds are comfy, bathrooms clean and the staff are friendly, polite and so helpful!

We booked a lagoon view room and our room was one the the ones overlooking the 'lagoon' aka beach so we were stoked. I've heard the garden view rooms aren't quite as nice so would recommend lagoon view. Also request a room thats not too close the the pool/bar as can be noisy at night and early morning - to be expected though as it is a resort!! The meals are great. We hired a scooter and went around the island trying lots of different restaurants.... The edgewater meals are very well priced - the cheapest food we had! And the food is excellent quality.

While we stayed it was mostly kiwis there which lead to a nice and relaxed atmosphere.

Also being one of the main resorts means the local bus pulls in for pick ups, all the tours do accom pick up and you can get your cars and scooters there - one of the only reports offering this. So handy!

The facilities are fantastic. Free tropical bfast each morning, tennis court, travel agent and car/scooter hire on site, beach towels, snorkels, reefs shoes all available for use. (2 hour max snorkel hire)

It is also excellently located. 10 mins scooter ride to the main shopping area, 20 mins to the other side of the island - Muri beach. Is also the less windy side and the sunniest side having amazing sunsets. A lot more handy to goingson than a lot of the other resorts.

Snorkelling is fantastic - best we had while staying there. We took our own snorkels and reef shoes so we could do what we want when we wanted. We also snorkelled at the rarotongan resort and on Muri beach. The edgewater is located on a shallow coral resort so there are heaps of fish, star fish etc all in their natural environment. Would recommend an underwear camera!

Island night = awesome experience. We had 2 for 1 vouchers so only paid $65 for 2 people. Buffet meal/desert is excellent and the show is so cool. Mix of drums and dancers with some of the profit going to the people who perform so they can travel around the world and perform in competitions.

We also did the nightlife tour bus. Hilarious night out! Being in our early 20's we loved it, if you are in your 50's and don't drink then its not going to be your cup of tea. It's a typical boozy night out with lots of dancing, alcohol and shenanigans ending at around 2am after a quick stop to the 24 hour petrol station for a pie.

The staff are wonderful. They are mostly Rarotongans - other resorts we noticed a mixture of Fijians, Indians and Asians and not being racist but they certainly weren't as friendly as the Edgewater lot.

From the lovely girls at reception to the waitresses and the boys at the activity hut who also take the nightlife tour bus they are all well spoken, polite and friendly. They have a chat, ask you how your day has been, offer great tips for things to do and in our case give you a bit of stick about the hangover suffered the day after the nightlife tour bus!!!!

Overall we had an AMAZING trip! Complete mixture of older couples, families and younger travellers. We all got on a treat sometimes combining big tables of fellow guests for dinner or drinks who you have gotten to know during your stay. The atmosphere is friendly, super location, stunning views and fantastic staff. It's hard to think you aren't in a dream!

Ignore the bad reviews from the un realistic people. If you want complete privacy in a secluded 5 star resort there are better options there ie the Rarotongan or Pacific resort. For anyone else get on the phone to your travel agent now and prepare for the holiday of your dreams!
