The higher your expectations, the more disappointing your outcome will be. We stayed in a garden view room and found it very spacious and the balcony view out looked beautiful very well kept gardens. It was very clean and the staff did a wonderful job of refreshing the room everyday. The room met all of our needs as well as the resort itself. The pool area is beautiful and very well set out with the bar, restaurant, pool side and beach all spread out facing the sea and there was also the option of walking just around the corner to a more private area on the white sandy beach.. We went in the busiest time of the year (June) and it was 27 degrees everyday with warm evenings and the resort was not crowded nor deserted. It seemed to meet everyone's needs from families, to elders to newlyweds. Everything we needed was provided- the beach was really good for snorkeling and they provided free snorkeling gear and towels, tennis court, kids club, activities throughout the day, public bus stop is at reception, car/scooter hire is at reception, gift shop, table tennis/pool room, 2 different restaurants, cafe, bar, 24 hour service, room service, live music every night and happy hour for yummy well worth your money cocktails. All staff were very helpful and friendly, and also let us check out at midnight instead of at 6pm for free. Also this resort is in a very nice spot on the island on a nice beach and is only 7 minutes from town and even closer to the airport. My partner and I really enjoyed our stay here and looking at other resorts on the island none of them beat the Edgewater !! Would definitely recommend and be returning again! The only negative is the price of laundry ($14)

Room Tip: If in a garden view room i would recommend to be up a level. All rooms are close to everything in resort !

We stayed for our first 3 nights in Rarotonga a the Edgewater in a VIP Deluxe Suite King for $430/night. The only redeeming feature really was it was beachfront. It was clean enough but very basic other than that. Well overpriced. The bar area was nice enough and the inclusive cereal/toast/fruit breakfast was done well too.

We have just come back from a week at the Edgewater and had a good time with our friends for a wedding, but have to say the rooms were very dated and we didnt think good value for money given what else is available locally, so check things out before hand. We booked a garden superior room thinking it would be nicer than the garden rooms as you pay a little extra, but our 3 friends garden rooms were all much nicer, a little cleaner, and more spacious (as they didnt have 3 beds crammed in as we did). They also had nice balconies with peeps of the sea, whereas we just came out to a side garden, so of course we were diappointed with what we had paid extra, as it was agreed by all to be the worse room. We also had a big ant problem and had to continually spray our bags!! The staff were friendly enough, the bar and beach area was nice, the food was definitely very average, but our biggest disappointment was the Edgewater Island night show, which we paid $65 for. Dont do it! for $20 more go to the one performed over other side of the island on a platform over the water (there are plenty of brochures on it I cant recall the name) it is a far superior show with better dancers, fire dancers, they join you in and take photos with you and so on, it is a proper cultural show with a story, not just some dancers up on a stage, and the food was amazing!!! much better than the Edgewater, which we all felt was not worth the money even before we saw the other show. I asked the day before if I could not have the meal and pay for the show only, but it was an all in package, so I paid $65. I don't each much of what was on offer but was looking forward to the pork as its the only meat I eat, but by time I got to it from the queue it was all gone, and I was told there was no more, I complained later and was told I should of got there earlier as it was a busy night and they were sold out!! This was at 7.45, dinner was supposed to be served till 8.30 when the show started, so not good. Our friends who hadnt paid watched most of the show from the glass windows in the ourside bar area, and there were numerous people inside through the show that hadnt been there earlier. I queried this at the end of night and was told they had paid $15 to see the show so were allowed in, thats fine, but I wasnt given that option even when I asked? and I paid for food I couldnt have anyway. They didnt seem to care much at all and I felt bad complaining, so didnt say much more on it. But not a good experience for us. We are looking at going back to Raro in Nov, but not to the Edgewater.

Room Tip: If you cannot go for a beach front room which seemed quite nice, just go for a garden room, dont pay extra for the superior garden room, it might be a little closer to the beach area but you cant see it and they are much worse rooms if ours was anything to go by. Most are within the same area anyway, there is not much in it walking distance to anywhere in the resort.

Kia Orana Readers
We have communicated directly with Ange J on the island night issues, and provided a full refund on the Island Night Show. In regards to the room issues, we have taken these up with our Housekeeping Manager who has gone through the room with the supervisor and also re-sprayed. Having 3 beds in the room as opposed to two is at the request of the guest as there were 3 guests in this room. We feel we represent a good value for money holiday with several room categories to suit all types of travellers and at certain times of the year our specials like or Stay 5, pay 3 or 50% off specials can bring the price point per night down to a very affordable holiday.

First the pros:
- good pool area and bar options. Food not overpriced (cocktails were expensive but they are everywhere).
- Lagoon View Rooms were nice, though lacked a bit of personality.
- Good location near the airport and town and with a few dining options nearby. Good takeaway for burgers and F&C at the end of the driveway. Spaghetti House at the end of the road is a good family Italian restaurant.
- the cheapest "resort" on the island
- the pool is good for kids (but is shared with adults so if you're not a family person, no fun)

The Cons.
Unless you are in a Lagoon View room the rooms are horrible, concrete jungle. We were in a Lagoon View Room and my Mother In Law in one of the other standard rooms and we ended up swapping as we felt dreadful for her being in what felt like a cellblock.
They weren't particularly clean (shower was chipping, spider webs and mould in the bathroom).
This is the windy side of the island but if you went during the hieght of summer this would probably be refreshing. This does mean that the snorkeling isn't as good because the lagoon becomes very choppy. You'll need to go elsewhere for a snorkel.

I think there are better options on the island such as Lagoon Breeze which also has a pool, just not the other resort type facilities such as kids club.

However, if you really want the resort stuff and don't mind living in a cell with a bed, this could be an option. I personally won't be going back. I didn't feel like this gave me the Rarotongan feel I was after.

Room Tip: Room 200 was a Lagoon View Room which was good. Avoid Cell Blocks 700, 800 and 900.

Kia Orana natsnaps,
Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on your recent stay with us here at The Edgewater Resort & Spa. We are pleased that you enjoyed the pool area and bar options, our Spaghetti House restaurant and our great location.
In regards to your comment on this being the windy side of the island, we are actually located on the sheltered western side of the island which only occasionally receives a westerly or north-westerly wind. Therefore the majority of the time there is little wind and fantastic snorkelling. Unfortunately this may not have been the case for your stay.
We have taken up your comments on the rooms with our Housekeeping Manager who has gone through these rooms again with the supervisor. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Overall we feel we represent a good value for money holiday with several room categories for all types of travellers with the whole resort experience in mind, and at certain times of the year our specials like our Stay 5, Pay 3 or 50% off specials can bring the price point per night down to a very affordable holiday.
Once again, thank you for a taking the time to post your comments and we are pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay, but disappointed you felt you did not get the Rarotonga feel you were after.
We do hope you get to return to the beautiful Cook Islands again in the near future.
