“A good self-guided tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2010

We did the Mai Tours self guided tour recently and greatly enjoyed it. The MP3 players are easy to use, the information is presented in a clear and entertaining manner, and being able to pace the tour yourself is a big bonus. There are quite a few places on Raro where you might like to stop a bit longer, and the organised tours don't allow for that (we also did a jungle safari 4wd type trip, which wasn't nearly as flexible or informative overall, with one or two exceptions).
Cost-wise, Mai Tours was also better, with both of us able to enjoy the tour for only a third of the 4wd tour cost (for the pair of us). There aren't any entry costs to look at the places either tour takes you through, and the extra cost of the 4wd tour didn't justify against the fuel cost of the self guided tour, and it's also a great way to orient yourself to the island if you do it at the beginning of your visit. Definitely recommend the cheaper and better option of Mai Tours if you plan to do a tour!

“Mai Tours -excellent Do It Yourself guide to Rarotonga”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2010

We were so impressed with the Mai Tours Experience. Price was so affordable- only $25.
The MP3 player was easy to operate so that we could switch on and off when we reached
the next tourist spot. We could really go at our own pace, and listen again if we didn't catch it all the first time - so much better than a tour guide thru a bad microphone. The whole commentary was professional and INTERESTING!DEFINATELY RECCOMENDED.

“Mai Tour -Great value for an excellent tour.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2010

We have just 'done' the Mai audio tour and found it very good, informative and very easy to listen to, and easy to follow the instructions right around the island, stopping off as you want at other places as well.
I actually live here and tiki tour friends around so wanted to learn some different points of interest (which I did), so I would also encourage locals to take this tour as well as tourists.
At $25 this is great value, and they drop off and pick up, even better.

“Family Friendly Fun Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2010

We recently took a Mai Tour (self drive tour) around Rarotonga. We chose this type of tour (with the MP3 Player) as we have an 11 month old baby and we had hired a car. The beauty with the MP3 tour was that we plugged the player into our portable speaker and sat the speaker on the dash board so we could all listen to the commentary together. We then followed the tour (which was easy) at our leisure (and in the comfort of our car - since it was raining). Since we had the baby, we could easily pause the tour, change nappies, stop for a bottle etc and then pick up where we left of. We didn't have to stress about holding up other guests.

The tour itself was informative, fun and entertaining. We saw and experienced many interesting island highlights - all of which we would have missed if we didn't go on this tour. For $25 (NZ) the tour was an absolute bargain and we would highly recommend it to other visitors.
