our party of seven has just returned from Rarotonga and we ate at several restaurants. Our ratings are : 1) Waterline.....the Mahi Mahi was to die for. Beachfront and we went twice.
2)Vaima ........right on the beach front tables. friendly service and great food.
3) Kik Hau Hut......great service and good food. Mahi Mahi was different presentation to Waterline but was fresh fruity tasting and Benouffi pie for dessert.
4) Shipwreck Bar.......right on the beach. Great bar with cocktails in a jam jar ! Bloody Mary's and margarita's are fantastic with live music and Jim's humour. A must .
5) Trader Jack's....I went to Trader Jack's exactly 1 year ago and experienced fantastic seafood meals and presentation to the point we took a photo of our meals. One year later we took our party of 7 there because we said it was great.....well it wasnt.....worse food we experienced on our trip. My potato mash had lumps, the Mahi Mahi (??) tasted strong and lettuce limp. My wife's Cook Island platter was good. The place seemed tired of tourists. The
location is excellent waterside viewing. Would I return next year...???

Lunch is available on a couple of days but this is mostly a restaurant for dinners. Get there early for a drink and watch the waves pounding the reef from your table with only coconut palm fronds occasionally obscuring your view. The seafood dishes are very good and some dishes like the nicoise salad have inventive and tasty differences that we enjoyed. Entertainment is provided on some nights.

This is right on the beach and on a good day, the sunset would be great. The service was excellent and the food very good. The owner is very friendly and when there, talks to many of his guests. We went there for both lunch and dinner, and would go again.

The sunsets from this restaurant are amazing, its a great place for a sundowner drink prior to listenening to live music and enjoying the wonderful food and service. Akisi and Chris set the atmosphere for a really good dining experience and the whole evening flows in a smooth and relaxing manner. When you book a table the table is yours for the night, none of the encouragement to leave once you finish your meal that you get in some other places, sit back, order another wine and enjoy. We'll be back.

This was our third visit to Raro, over a period of ten years. Each time, the restaurants have got better and more plentiful. We are very lucky to have family who live on the island and this time they recommended we visit the Waterline. Situated among the west coast resorts, this restaurant has arguably the best outlook on the island. It "hangs" right over the beach and looks out, through an exotic palm grove, to the lagoon. It is everything you ever dreamed of when the words "South Seas" were mentioned. Continual Blues humming through the speakers reflects the taste of the owner, Chris, who, as a player, has himself accompanied many international musicians through the years. A fantastic ambience for those in love or those who just enjoy good food and good music.
