It was my first time in an eco farm and I enjoyed it a lot. Bit back to basic, beautiful garden, friendly staff, ok kitchen (could use few more utensils), great pizza nights, social, just good experience!! A self organised trip with mountain bikes to the waterfall, hike up there and cycle back (lunch in local restaurant) was also an awesome day!! Easy to do from Zopilote and very cheap.

Room Tip: I slept in a hammock which was an interesting experience, but I had a good night sleep, so worth a t...

Finca el Zopilote is a Permaculture Farm located in Ometepe Island ( Nicaragua)
Great place for people that loves nature and don't look for the facilities of the masses.
The area is really beautiful and the facilities give you all you need.
Open rooms with tress around. Communal kitchen. Compost Toilets, Open showers, and lots of secret spots around the farm to hang out.
I see this place perfect for easygoing people with interest in farming, learning, permaculture search.
This is not a Hotel! with all services included. People cleaning your room or following you offering tours and food!
If you need to know something, you ask!!! and If you feel comfortable .... you stay and become part of the day by day of the farm!!!!
If you feel uncomfortable ... yes It is NOT the right place for you!!!!!

On the other hang and talking more about the farm:
The compost toilets are the most clean and well done that I have ever seem ....
Gardens and trails are really nice ( but better in the rainy season) Ometepe could be reaaaaaallly dry and hot!
Pizza is delicious!
Yoga plaza, my favorite!
Oh! and the organic products!! highly recommended!!! But check on them carefully before buying!!! weather conditions are not friendly sometimes.

I didn't stay here but I went for pizza night, which was recommended by many outside and on the island. After an interesting and challenging walk through the jungle, we made it to the clay oven. The reception sells homemade/from the farm products like nutella and bread and the pizza is just phenomenal. It tastes like it should--italian and farm grown. I met some amazing people here this night as well--sooo glad I made the trip through the trees!!

Its unfortunate to have a title like this, but it was very ture. Like the perivous comments, we were greeted, with a very unwarm welcome, like we were interupting something!! We had all been travelling all day and it was dark when we arrived. We were not informed of anything like where the bathrooms or showers were, again we were interupting there time!
I dont agree with the $10 deposit on my own hammoc! but whatever

The place is a great spot to hang out in, great location and views of the two volcanos
The Pizza was great and the seperate staff that run that, do a great job!

The setting is very beautiful but I think the people who run the place have just become too comfortable and they made us feel like we were disturbing there chill time. We were checked in at super haste so they could get back to chilling out! We were not informed of anything like what time they serve dinner or if it is even avalible to us. When we went up to ask about dinner at about 7pm they said we could have some for 6U$ but they has already had dinner and some of the salad bowls were empty so they were basiclly offering us left overs for 6U$.

They sheets did not fit the bed. They just give u the sheets, so you have to make ur own bed, which would be fine if the sheets were decent!

There is nowhere to lie comfortabley and read your book! And the 1 hammock we had access to was so dirty, I don't think it has ever been washed. Even the pillows on the swing chair look like they belong in a dog basket, that's how dirty they are. It did not promote a relaxing and just lying around at all but there is nothing else to do there.

When I left, I pointed the fact that there is nowhere comfortable to hang out, and the manager just said, "yeah its better you leave because you don't speak spanish and this is more nice for spanish speakig people" so if you don't speak spanish, don't go there, they do not welcome you at all!

Awesome pizza, awesome time, great staff. Coming Back, for sure!!!! Super affordable and close to Maderas, the volcano, so super easy to hike up there. Since EcoTourism is on a rise this would be my choice of where to start in Nicaragua. Viva Nicaragua, Viva El Zopilote!
