“Best place on Island”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

My friend and I consulted Tripadviser when making the decision about where to stay/eat and ended up a Yogi's, which was lovely but they didn't have restaurant so we ventured out. Lured in by the wonderful colours and good-vibes music, we wandered into HC. We were both on a fresh healthy eating buzz so were hoping to grab a healthy lunch. On our first inspection of the menu, we decided we should probably check out other places but were coaxed back by the owner - who asked us what we would love to eat. Without hesitation we both said "curry"? The owner is also a chef, and a very good chef too! We relaxed and chatted to customers and surfed on their wifi and just enjoyed what the place had to offer. The curry was magnificent! The organic produce sourced locally from the mineral rich soils of Ometepe - we washed it down with passion fruit and ginger juices which were amazing! We hung out for the night and next day moved in (dorms only $4) as it was low season. All I can say is we slept and ate well during our stay - great value for money. We went to other parts of the island with the intention of staying but ended up returning as the quality of places got worse and more expensive. I would recommend this place as a great base for a stay on Ometepe. It's a few mins walk from the harbour and bus terminus. You can also rent bikes for $5 a day.

I was led to this place by something magical really. I came off the boat to Ometepe and was attacked by all these vultures working for all these silly hostels around town instantaneously. It was way too overwhelming to be honest, but at the end of the dock was a guy with dreadlocks who suggested Hospedaje Central, but I told him that I'd keep walking and find somewhere myself. I was just kind of wondering around and came upon this crazy colored spot that in fact was the hostel the guy had mentioned. I went in and knew... This was home man. After 3 nights, I confirmed it was just that... A home away from home. My dorm was only $4 during low season... What!? Dorms cost that little? Great restaurant with homemade vegan food! The staff was awesome, so so so nice. Recommended :-)

The atmosphere in the hostel is really amazing. The staff is super nice and helps with all the problems. The dorm is held very simple but for me this is a plus. The hostel is very colorful and expresses a nice feeling of beeing home. I enjoyed my stay and met very nice people in the hostel. A super plus for me was that they have vegan food in the restaurant. Even thought the menu doesn't really show it if you ask for something vegan they even prepare something specially for you. It's a great place to land after the ferry trip and see what can be done on the island. We played music in the hammoc space in the back and just had a great time.
They also have some very interesting social projects that you can get involved in. They have a organic finca on the island and I spend some time on that finca helping with cutting plantain trees and harvesting organic cucumbers. If you are interested in this kind of activity you should ask the staff about it and they will gladly show you around the finca.

My boyfriend and I stayed at El Indio Viejo for sometime because we work online and their WIFI works very well. We ended up renting the hammocks ($3.50 per night!) which were very comfortable to sleep in. The staff is nice and helpful and informative when you ask them for advice on what to do on the island. Cute place. Good food. Negative for us was that there was no kitchen we could use to make our own food, which is what we usually prefer. But other than that it was a nice stay. And they keep deer in their back garden, too.

Hallo!

thank you to take your time writing a review for us. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay in our comfortable hammocks like many of our guests willing to relax reading a book and taking a nap.

We think hammocks are a great invention of the Native People of the Americas, so simple, so convenient, it is really part of the culture of Nicaragua and sleeping in our ranchito is somehow experiencing the precolombian Ometepe...

Well, after looking for several hostals we picked the central. The bar and restaurant are really nice, great food, cool people and music ant really cheap alcohol! But the rooms... Not so clean and the shower was awful... The rooms have huge potential because they are very colorful but totally need a renovation! The staff is nice but they really messed up our laundry and we got it back wet and smelly!! I recommend to come for drink and dinner but not for a stay...

Thank you for your review!

We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us, and especially our bar and restaurant. We are proud to be one of the cool spots in Moyogalpa and that is why so many other travelers staying at other hostels in town come to visit us to chill out with the music, food and drinks.

For our rooms, most of them are in very good shape, clean with new beds, colorful paintings and proper accommodations, and we are constantly working on improving them. I acknowledge the room you were staying in need a new tiling in the shower and it is a project we will soon be working on. I will be happy to send you the photos of your new shower when it is done!

We again apologize to you for your damp clothes, but as we already explained, we don't have an electric dryer (a service you don't find yet in Moyogalpa) and that is why we can charge you a very low fee of U$ 3,50 for the service, but in rainy season we totally depend on the weather for the drying and since it was very rainy those days, your clothes haven't been drying quick enough before you leave. We would have gladly rewash them, but you had to leave, so we thank you for your comprehension.

Thank you for staying with us!

Stayed here for 2 nights in single room; $10 for single. Room was basic but clean - also very nice as there was bugs and room did not feel humid.

Great bar an restaurant at hostel. If you want to hike conception, try to ask oosagi (hostel coowner) to be your guide.

If you are into exchanging travel experience and stories, this is the place to be. Even if you are not comfy with a dorm the rooms are clean and at a good price, especially if you come straight from costa rica. Their food and homemade bread is good as well.

Thank you very much! It was nice to receive you and your girlfriend, sharing stories about Ometepe's mysteries...and your migrations around the world. Ometepe is definitely a place to visit crossing Central America, so I hope you bring good memories that will make you return someday, like a migrating bird, back to the nest, to this little piece of paradise.

If you enjoyed the special vibe of our hostel like other travellers, make sure we are working hard to provide you a safe and comfortable spot, improving constantly the hostel, while still keeping room for low-budget travellers and answering our guest's most urging requests. We already built 3 showers and 2 toilets only for the dorm, and are working now on closing the room with mosquito nets and changing some of the matresses that needed to be changed.

You can be sure too that next time you come, you will be able to taste more variety of foods coming directly from our organic farm in Ometepe, straight to your plate. We are currently developping that aspect so important to us and many travellers coming to Ometepe: ecological and sustainable future for the island.

Thank you for supporting our projects!!
