Over the course of two days I tried the eggs benedict, veggie omelet, a smoothie, and some coffee. The quality seemed really high and this is probably the only place I'd feel safe eating Hollandaise sauce in Nicaragua. The smoothie was one of the best I'd had as well. The only downside was the price, which is usually evident when things are listed in USD. Still, every bit worth it when you get sick of early morning gallo pinto!

Thanks for taking the time to leave us such a nice review - we're so glad you enjoyed your breakfasts at The Cornerhouse! We are committed to using the best ingredients available to us on the island (organic when possible), practicing safe food handling practices, and also paying our staff a wage well above the minimum rate. With these things considered, our food will always be more expensive than a plate of rice and beans...as delicious as that is every so often! Thanks for visiting us and we wish you the best on your travels!

Best breakfast on the island. Yummy smoothies and fantastic, healthy meals freshly prepared when you order. Fantastic coffee (no instant here!)

Their rooms are lovely. Wish we had stayed here as they're so clean and comfortable.

The couple that own the B&B are so helpful and friendly. My husband's luggage was lost by Delta and they were so diligent in helping us and we didn't even stay there.

A must to visit when you visit Ometepe!

Paula and Dan, I was thrilled to hear that you were finally reunited with your paddleboard gear!
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review and for being such amazing customers while on the island...even under somewhat frustrating circumstances! We like that you appreciate good coffee. And definitely no instant here - our coffee is from the Maderas Volcano cloud forest and roasted at The Cornerhouse, one pound at a time. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Nicaragua!

We loved this place so much that we must have come about 4 times in the 6 days that we were on the island! From the sandwiches to the coffee and the cakes and cookies, all the food is delicious!

Gary makes this place what it is, he was always full of good advice on where to go and what to do and even made up a sandwich for us to take on our hike with us at 6am!

My only suggestion would be to perhaps put the prices in cordobas as well and to open up for dinner too! I have no doubt that dinner would be equally delicious.

Thanks Gary, Laura and all the other incredibly friendly and helpful staff for making us happy on so many occasions with the excellent food and service! I'm already craving those coconut cookies!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review! We're very happy that you enjoyed your time on the island and that we got to serve you four times while you were here - we're truly honoured.
We've had a number of requests to start offering dinner service and we agree, it would be fun and delicious. But while the restaurant is also currently our home, a 7-5 day is long enough for us! It may be in the plans for the future though so we'll keep you posted so you can come back and try it. Thanks again for your support and safe travels!

My wife and sister in law have eaten in corner house a few times and have found it very good. I'd say it's the best cafe on ometepe, I just love the smoothies. Odds a very nice place to relax after taking the ferry out before going to the ferry.

By Nico standards, this place is expensive ($2 for a latte, $3.50 for granola with yogurt, $2 for a smoothie, $1.75 for carrot cake).

But - the latte is very good; the granola is actually real granola (not the 'breakfast mix' of cornflakes/oatmeal that masquerades as granola on many menus in this part of the world); the smoothies are very tasty and the carrot cake is excellent.

The cafe is well-located on the main street, is very comfortable, has a good selection of travel books and the service is friendly. The owner is a very friendly English guy who works the floor himself (he also likes a yarn during quiet times).

Facebook addicts will be slightly put out by having to pay C20 for wifi.

Expensive, but worth every cent for travellers in need of a western hit. Give the web a break and talk to your lunch partner or read a book if flying solo.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review - we’re glad to hear you enjoyed your time at The Cornerhouse (and our homemade Granola!)

Since your review, we’ve actually changed our policy on WiFi. At the risk of attracting more of the Facebook addicts you speak of, we’ve decided to make the use of WiFi free for all customers. We understand that this is a service that the majority of travelers are now looking for to help plan their travels and stay in touch with family and friends. The cost of providing this hi-speed service in addition to our focus on offering food made with the best ingredients available to us are factors in how we have priced our menu. We’re so happy to hear that it was worth every penny!

Your parting words are wise. Thanks for the reminder to disconnect.
