“Tiptop food, huge portions - thoroughly recommended”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

Friends took us here in the week after Christmas. A proper country pub with interesting beers. I was really spoilt for choice with regards to food and after much humming and hawing I chose the braised belly pork, baby apple tarte tatin, remoulade and quince jelly as my starter. Everything worked perfectly together and the quince jelly was a highlight. For the main (again and much deliberation) I chose a sirloin steak with proper chips and grilled tomatoes. Again everything was perfect. My only complaint was that I couldn't finish it because of all the food I had eaten over the last few weeks. It was my loss. Very friendly and helpful service. I look forward to a return visit next Christmas!

We have just come back from our annual Christmas visit to the fox and hounds and thought it was about time we wrote a review! What a fantastic place, the rooms are cozy and comfortable and the food is fantastic (especially the lamb). All the staff are friendly and very welcoming, especially the resident dog. Thanks for another fantastic weekend!

We were treated to lunch here by some clients. The restaurant is a typical country pub with quite an expensive evening meal menu and the lunchtime specials whilst cheaper were quite dear. The food however was quickly served and well cooked, so no complaints on the quality and the staff were helpful and unobtrusively brisk.

Having stayed there numerous times my wife and went for Sunday lunch25 11 12 and were not disappointed - - - warm welcome, we ate in the comfortably rustic bar area. The food was excellent - - well cooked and innovatively presented. Go there and enjoy a good meal

Room Tip: room 9 on the ground floor

We stopped for bowls of soup on a wintry day. Lovely log burner, shown to a table that was next to it so warm and cosy. Not busy when we arrived but the waitress was slow to take the order and the soup took some time to arrive. The carrot and cumin soup was lovely - could have done with a bigger portion though. The big disappointment was the bread- two tiny white rolls each. We asked for some more but the rolls weren't very nice- and should have been warm. A nice chunk of fresh country granary bread would have been better. Pricey considering the poor bread quality. The meals other people were having though looked very nice and I'm sure we will return.

We happened upon this venue after taking the wrong turn on our way to Whitby. as usual I approached the menu expecting a disappointing vegetarian meal compared to the choices offered to my husband. We had a Sunday lunch - my husband had the traditional, I had the vegetarian dish which was grilled Halloumi, field mushrooms, and red wine poached pears - not over faced but delicious. If this wasn't so far from our home would definitely visit again. Can't comment on repetitive choices but I certainly wouldn't mind having tha meal again!

The room and bathroom were tiny and very dated. Couldn't open the window and the radiator made noises all night long. Very expensive for size and quality of the room. Dinner, however, was rather good and the staff were charming.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This attractive 18th-Century former coaching inn in one of the prettiest villages in North Yorkshire offers a warm welcome the minute you arrive. A little loop road just off the A170 Helmsley to Pickering road on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, Sinnington has everything a classic English village should; a maypole, a village green, a 12th century church and ducks feeding on the beck that gently winds its way through the village. There are pretty riverside and woodland walks nearby. Its cosy bar, open fire and hanging hops deliver a rustic and relaxing atmosphere. There's also a contemporary restaurant that boasts oak tables and attractive lighting - ideal for those looking for that slightly more intimate affair. But wherever you choose to sit, you can be assured of a delicious meal. This is a destination for people who enjoy good food cooked well. The three chefs source many of their ingredients locally, making the most of the area's fine meats and fish and home grown vegetables and herbs. The meat is supplied by BW & DJ Glaves of Brompton by Sawdon, Scarborough and all the fish is delivered daily from the east coast. The inn has an AA rosette awarded for culinary excellence which has been maintained for the past 15 years. Typical dishes such as a twice baked Lincolnshire poacher cheese souffle and a platter of fish cakes, little fish and chips, king scallop, salmon and aspargus salad are popular throughout the year. Other options include a Roast breast and leg of Guinea Fowl, sage crushed potato, asparagus and oyster mushroom cream or confit Duck Leg, chorizo, roast pepper and pea risotto, orange and watercress salad. Chefs specials are also offered for both lunch and dinner. Lighter lunches and an early evening supper menu are also offered daily such as a chargrilled minute steak, fries, pepper sauce and salad or onion rings or roast belly pork and black pudding, chive mash, apple sauce and crackling .All puddings are homemade and if you're struggling to decide what to choose, there is an assiette of puddings that has a little bit of everything - puddings change on a daily basis.Fresh bread is baked every morning and the chefs like to try different ingredients for evening dinners complimentary bread and olive. Flavours have included parmesan and chive or chorizo and sun dried tomato. Sundays bring traditional roasts with a range of different options - including beef, pork and lamb served with a Yorkshire Pudding and also a fish and a vegetarian dish. Accommodation is available all year round, and has been awarded 4 Stars from the English Tourism Council. ... more   less
