“The warmest, most hospitable hosts you could ever hope to meet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013 via mobile

Beau Sejour is, without doubt, a very beautiful B&B close to Saint Emilion, most worthy of it's enviable Tripadvisor ranking.

The buildings are stunning and the interior rooms are beautifully put together, spotlessly clean and displaying a quiet elegance coupled with a high level of comfort. The meals are delicious and plentiful, the wine flows freely. The courtyard overlooking the vast garden beckons us back for a summer stay in future years. We enjoyed meeting other guests and sharing travel stories from all over the globe.

But the best parts of Beau Sejour are not the beautifully restored buildings, the delightful rooms, the superb meals or the lovely garden.

The best parts of Beau Sejour are Maureen and Jon, owners and hosts.

Maureen and Jon would have to be the warmest, kindest, most helpful people you could ever hope to meet. Upon arrival, you are greeted like an old friend and encouraged to feel at home. Our children were made to feel like special guests, which is not always the case when staying in holiday accommodation.

Our hosts extensive knowledge of the area, good judgement and guidance enabled our family or have a unique and highly memorable few days in Saint Emilion.

As we were a group of 5 (2 adults and 3 young children) who wished to self cater for some of our stay, we were offered 'The Cottage' for the duration of our visit. It was perfect for our needs, warm, clean and spacious with all the facilities a family might need and plenty of room to 'spread out'. Maureen and Jon organised wine tours on our behalf at 'child friendly' chateaux, pointed us in the right direction for local markets and other sightseeing opportunities and assisted us with maps, brochures etc. They even booked us in for a prehistoric cave tour on our way home... another highlight of our visit to the region.

If you are looking for an unforgettable St Emilion experience, don't hesitate to reserve a room at Beau Sejour. Maureen and Jon will look after you so well, you won't want to leave.

We look forward to another visit in the future, when I hope to book the entire place out so I can share it with friends and extended family. I can't wait to come back!

Beau Sejour, (of all the places we stayed on our 5 week tour of France), holds the most delightful memories.

Maureen and John exceed any expectation one could have for hosts with their warm and genuine attention to the comfort of the guests and the exceptional quality of the accommodation and food. They were always at the ready to share their knowledge on where to visit and any bookings required.

We booked the Chambre Ouest room (which overlooks the large garden) and were delighted to hear the owls calling from the surrounding forest nightly. It was a nice feeling to be so immersed in the Bordeaux countryside.

We were keen to stay there after the reviews on TripAdvisor and have to say it is difficult to add to all the wonderful things people have to say about Beau Sejour and its exceptional hosts. Most memorable.

When we returned from France and people asked us about our favorite part, of the 7 places we stayed, Beau Sejour stood out as our favorite. Maureen and Jon took such great care of us. From translating cold medicine orders to recommending one of our favorite restaurants that we've EVER been to (La Poudette), they are everything you'd want in B&B hosts.

Our room and bathroom were both large and comfortable. We loved the breakfast and afternoon tea and Maureen's dinner.

It was fun to get to know other guests during meals and share tips on activities in the area. The location was so convenient for visiting St Emilion, and we also drove to Bordeaux and the Medoc region on two other days and did not mind the drive. (Again, Maureen made reservations for chateau visits and gave explicit directions on how to get there. That was especially nice since I hate GPSs and I refused to get one!)

We also got engaged while on the patio outside our room, and Maureen and Jon shared in our excitement and gave us a bottle of sparking wine and a lovely card, which I still have.

I typically don't like to repeat vacations because there's so much of the world left to see, but this is a place I'd come back to. Even aside from the engagement, our experience was so special.

Maureen and Jon have created a beautiful hide away in their 18th Century farmhouse. They have brought this gem back to life with their dedication and taste. We had a wonderful time here - dinner was superb each night (Maureen is a brilliant cook) and Jon a marvellous sommelier with a great knowledge of wine from the region and France in general. We were made to feel very welcome and at home, having canapes by the fire and supping at the enormous dining table.

Maureen and Jon went out of their way to help find the best places for our interests and were spot on in their recommendations everytime. Altogether two glorious nights of great food and wine, wonderful company and superb surrounds.

Perfect.

Room Tip: All of he rooms are excellent.

I'd found Beau Sejour on Trip Advisor and was so glad we did! Once we found it, in the tiny village of Naujan et Postiac, we dropped into the helpful hands of Maureen and Jon. I've not stayed anywhere when we've had such service. Maureen directed us towards family-owned wineries in the area and made our reservations for the visits (you don't usually just drop in). She had restaurant and other traveling advice, and genuinely wanted our time to be well spent. Maureen even took care of washing and drying a pair of my husband's pants I doused with wine one lunch-time.
She followed up with us prior to our visit mentioning others had booked dinner one night. We took her up on it, and it was delicious and fun to share around the table of other guests. The buffet breakfast is very generous, and the afternoon tea or wine capped off many a day. We'd brought back some wine and cheese for a light dinner and that was no problem to set up in the dining room. Did I mention it was next to the fireside?
It was more like staying with relatives than an impersonal B & B.
BTW, we had the ground floor room and it was huge, ditto for the bathroom. Super comfortable.

Room Tip: The website has good photos of each room and it was certainly accurate for our room.

My wife and I stayed at the Beau Sejour while we were on a trip to vineyards in the Bordeaux region.

Maureen and John wee very helpful organising trips for us and it all worked out well. One very nice benefit was having breakfast around a big table with other guests from France, Spain, Argentina, USA and swapping stories / getting advice about the previous days visits as everybody was down there wine tasting.
