“Beyond wonderful!”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

This was our first trip to the St. Emilion region. We stayed here based on a recommondation from friends that had been here earlier in the year. It was beyond our every expectation. The accomodations were wonderful, the enviorment delightful and most of all Jon and Maureen are the most caring, helpful, and considerate hosts. The breakfasts were exceptional every morning, high tea every afternoon is a must and when they cook dinner for the guests it is a 5 star event. Every detail of your stay is important to them and they go above and beyond to make sure you have the best possible exprerience in everything you do. Jon and Maureen have wonderful restuarant recommendations, know where to send you to buy wine, set up tours and excursions to vineyards and chateaus in the region and anything else you might wish to explore. If you follow their recommendations you will experience the region at it's finest. We will return and hope to send friends and family too! Thank you Jon and Maureen for great memories and the most wonderful, relaxing vacation we've had in 30 years!

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was Chambre Ecureuil. It was perfect.

If you like quiet French countryside, large comfortable rooms, delicious home made breakfast, mouth watering afternoon tea, local wine, impeccable service, and value for money, then Beau Sejour is the place for you.
Maureen and Jon provided we two weary travellers, with the perfect haven to explore the Bordeaux wine region. They could not have done more to make our three nights there SIMPLY PERFECT. They are the most hospitable, gracious and generous hosts we have ever had the pleasure of meeting, in many years of travel.
If you are ever in this beautiful part of the world, stay at Beau Sejour. Your only regret will be leaving.

Maureen and Jon were wonderful hosts, extremely service oriented, it was a pleasure staying with them! We were 2 couples parents, daughter and daughter's husband looking to explore the wine country. Jon and Maureen know the region very well, we really appreciated their advice. Also we were very impressed as how clean their home was we could not see dust anywhere :)
Thank you M & J we hope to have the pleasure to stay again with you.
Best scones ever!!!

A lovely place to rest and restore energies. Beautiful surroundings and a lovely gracious French home with lots of garden spaces to picnic in or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Jon and Maureen are very kind, sharing their home and their culinary and wine appreciation skills. The surrounding area is lovely, particularly as seen from a bike seat. The nearby cycle path gives you two good days of riding ( one in each direction) approx 50kms each way. Forests and fields and lovely lunch stops at the converted stations ( it is along an old railway line). Nearby towns make interesting day trips - Bordeaux in its revamped splendour and atmospheric St Emilion - the monolithic church tour ( in English at 2pm) is fantastic. A lovely place to come for at least 4 or 5 nights. Laundry was expensive (40euros) but this is only a problem if you are travelling for a longer period ( as we are). Everything is exceptionally beautiful and Jon and Maureen will do everything in their power to make your stay special. Maureen is a fabulous cook and her detailed map directions are brilliant- no chance of getting lost!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are lovely

We spent three nights in the Red Room at Beau Sejour and were so impressed we decided to tell the rest of the world how delighted we were with what we experienced even if the rest of the world showed little interest in our delight. All the glowing tributes which are easily found on this site, turned out to be absolutely true. Maureen and Jon are exceptional hosts and their helpfulness cannot be overstated. They know their region extremely well and have a variety of printed directions to each attraction. When the weather became very hot at the start of July, without being asked, Jon installed an electric fan in our bedroom. We were extremely impressed that the fan had an electric timer so it cooled us as we went to sleep and then turned itself off so it didn’t disturb us during the night. This kindness, however, was as naught compared to the magisterial almond cake Maureen made for the the notable 4.30 tea time spread for guests. As a cake connoisseur (otherwise known as a greedy pig) I expressed my appreciation of the almond cake. To my astonishment, having mentioned very fleetingly that it had been my birthday during the holiday, I was presented with a freshly made cake to take home along with a jar of the home made apricot jam of which I had also briefly noted my approval . I am still eating my way slowly through both. I repaid their kindness by leaving a drawer full of old socks and pants which Maureen uncomplainingly posted back to the embarrassed owner. In my opinion Henry II took the wrong woman out of Acquitaine. He actually chose Eleanor because of the lands she owned. Had he scooped up Maureen instead he would have an endless supply of apricot jam and almond cake. The course of English mediaeval history might have been changed forever. The Plantagents might never have died out and the BBC would have had to close down because there were no Tudors. A five star recommendation.

We had the good fortune of finding and choosing Beau Sejour online for 6 days at the beginning of our French vacation. What a perfect choice we made! Jon and Maureen have worked endlessly to create an expert renovation of a 18th century (I believe) dwelling. Our room (the red room) had vaulted ceilings boasting massive wooden beams, a mattress to die for, and a beautiful modern bathroom (not to mention enough space to easily practice our dance steps for the French wedding that we were to attend). And it doesn't stop there! This charming English couple continues to work tirelessly to make every guest feel "top dog". From warm morning breakfast welcomes and suggestions/directions of what to do in the area (including making calls for dinner reservations/wine tours) to exquisitely prepared dinners in the beautiful salon ( extra cost but WELL worth it), Jon and Maureen take care of their guests from their hearts and love every minute of it. The location of this chambre d'hote is ideal-quiet and peaceful, yet with easy car access to wine country, Bordeaux, golfing, and biking. What did we like least?...that we hadn't stayed longer. Thank you so much Jon and Maureen.

Jon and Maureen have created the most idyllic place to stay whilst visiting one of France's best wine regions. You are made to feel immediately welcome and no request is too great. My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of staying for three nights in June and I so wish we'd have spent our whole holiday there! Our room was ENORMOUS with an extremely comfortable bed complete with proper down pillows and cotton sheets (very luxurious!) The ensuite bathroom was also fab with a huge powerful shower and lots of space for all those endless toiletries you seem to end up taking on holiday! Unfortunately we didn't stay a night when Jon and Maureen were offering their home cooked 5 course meal but breakfast and the complimentary afternoon tea made sure we wished we had. Homemade jams, smoked salmon, fruits and scones are just a selection of what was on offer in the morning and then you returned to homemade cake and tea before segueing onto a cold glass of white or rose (from their neighbours vineyard) before supper!!! Utterly sublime! What must also not go without mention is quite how helpful Jon and Maureen are with all things St. Emillion, Bordeaux and the surrounding area. I swear they have maps to and from the B and B and every important location in the area! They will happily recommend restaurants and book tables (which earned us a complimentary glass of wine on one night!) which really is so helpful. All in all it truly was the most fabulous stay and I only wish we could have stayed for longer. Thank you Jon and Maureen!
