When I stay in the Lake District on business this is the place I stay.

Steve is such a personable person who listens to individual needs. The food is outstanding and local fresh products.

The accommodation is a converted old barn, extremely clean and modern to suit all ages.

Steve the owner takes time to chat and ask what you need/want which is a rare attribute these days.

I will be back and recommend the Wayside to anyone of ages, trips, business and pleasure.

Thanks Steve.

This is a truly delightful small hotel, raised from a near wreck to it's present perfection by it's owners Steve and Lynn. Sitting hard under Black Coombe mountain and surrounded by farmlands, it fits perfectly with it's surroundings, stone and slate, green fields and sheep.
Our room was spacious, and had a comfortable couch, several opening windows and a very nice and sparkling bathroom. Lovely simple matching furniture, no mishmash of junk shop furniture here.
Dinner is cooked for you if put your hand up ahead of time, and the food is great.
My only request would be a bigger bed please.
Well done guys, your hotel is an absolute gem, we LOVED it,

Room Tip: There all great.

Thank you Jill for taking the time to write a review on your busy holiday schedule. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and took time out from your travels. We do have a kingsize bed in the Annexe but the room was occupied by another guest when you stayed. Hopefully you are still enjoying your travelling in Britain and will take fond memories back to Australia with you.

Wow what can i say. I really enjoyed my stay at the Wayside, and will be sure to return. Not only is the area stunning in itself, so to is the Wayside. The annexe (where we stayed) was absolutely beautiful and to be honest i have yet to reside in accomadation which surpasses it. The whole build is in perfect keeping with its surroundidngs and if i haven't already sold this place enough i'm sure the pictures on the website do. Moving on to the service, this is another faultless area, perhaps because the Wayside only has 3 rooms you really do get a very warm, friendly and personal service. The food (many thanks Steve) is also very good.
Overall, you really do get a warm welcome and so much helpful advice about all the activities and places to see in the area, they really know their stuff. I would highly recommend the Wayside to all, (especially if you adore Whisky) without any hesitation whatsoever.
Many thanks to all for providing a fabulous stay. :)

Hi Amanda, we are glad you enjoyed your horseriding, we were both thinking of you both riding on the beach and were happy to get your email saying you had a good time, even if you were a bit tender afterwards. We actually do have four rooms, thankyou for your lovely comments, if you ever get up this way again it would be really nice to see you both again. Hope the exams went well.

I stayed here on a business trip for several nights mid-week.
The rooms are beautifully furnished with a good size bathroom and sofa to boot. Beds were very comfortable.
Meals were all great and the dining area is cozy. Wi Fi was a great help too when I was working in the evenings.
Views from the rooms are amazing, and it's very quiet in the evenings - I had the best night's sleep in ages.
I did not have a car, so was reliant on the local cab firm, which was booked for me by the owners of the accomodation, which was really helpful.
Overall, excellent value for money and I would love to go back to explore the area more.
Would not hesitate in recomending Wayside!

We booked this holiday very last minute and were very fortunate to see the Wayside still had a room free!! Myself and my wife didn't even question whether or not to book. The photos really sell it and it is just as nice in the flesh.
Wayside has the luxury look you get from a very nice holiday cottage, which we regularly frequent throughout the country. All the additional extras such as the luxury complimentary toiletries just made the stay that little bit special.
Breakfast was delicious and service was fantastic! With plenty of fresh tea, coffee and juices! All of the cooked meals are freshly prepared with locally sourced produce and cooked by the owner Steve. I had a full English both mornings and my wife tried a couple of options and both she enjoyed very much!!
We never used the Whisky bar, but that is due to us not being Whisky drinkers. I believe they have drinks to cater for all tastes. However for the Whisky connoisseur you would be in heaven!! When we were there Steve and the team held a Whisky tasting evening followed with your evening meal. I am not 100% sure if these are regular events, but a good addition to the offering available.
We thought that the Wayside offered a very helpful, friendly and very good valued stay!!
We have never done a holiday in the Lakes before, but Steve and his wife were very helpful in suggesting places to visit. We visited the places they recommended and were not disappointed. Muncaster Castle was our Saturday outing. This is a great day out with the Owl Sanctuary. They also have a live showing of a number of the birds flying on the lawn. Then the large feeding of herons that visit the grounds at 4pm everyday. A sight not seen everyday!!
Sunday was Wast Water which is truly unspoilt and really beautiful. We have a number of fantastic pictures of a great landscape. We are already planning a return visit to the Wayside!!
Thank you to Steve and the rest of the staff!

Thank you Mark and Stephanie for your kind comments. It is always satisfying to find that guests enjoyed their stay at Wayside. Wastwater is a fantastic place to visit and it must have been that little bit more special touring around in such a lovely car. We have plenty more beautiful places for you to visit next time you come and who knows we might even get you to try a whisky or two. Thank you again, Lynn and Steven

Absolutely love this place. This has been my 4th visit with friends (please see review from Elaine R) and will most definitely not be my last. Beautifully converted stone built accommodation in the shadow of Black Combe mountain, within easy reach of the heart of the lakes and just minutes from miles of sandy beaches. Sound good? Well, that's just about the location and its nothing compared to the warm welcome received from Steve and Lynn, the immaculately clean and comfortable accommodation and the fabulous (truly fabulous) home cooked food. In the evening, the Whisky barn is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy great conversation with your hosts, so much so that you won't want to do anything else and if you are a whisky connoisseur, well, this is heaven. Thank you Steve and Lynn for making every visit special.

We picked this hotel as a random last minute hotel stay to try our first night away from home with our 4 month old Daughter. When we arrived we were quite taken aback with how beautiful it was. Set in a stunning part of the South lakes with the Black Coombe hills in the backdrop. We stayed in a standard double room which was beautifully decorated with solid wood furniture, original beam and stone wall features and very large bathroom with seperate walk in shower. Room was spotless and bed was very comfortable. We didn't eat in the restaurant on the evening we arrived (regrettably we had already eaten......) but did enjoy a beautifully cooked breakfast the next morning before enjoying the local area including a small pebbled beach which was only a few minutes drive away. Only negative was the noise from the restaurant area was quite loud as this was directly below our room but this wasn't such a problem that it ruined our stay and our 4 month old Daughter almost slept through, so a thumbs up from her too. We would definately return for a couple of nights next time and make more of the restaurant and bar as well as the local area. Massive thumbs up from the Woods!

What a positive review Tracy, it was a shame you only stayed one night as you quite rightly said this is a beautiful part of the Lake District National Park and there are lots of lovely places to visit. We hope you enjoyed your stay and will stay with us again in the future.
