Stayed 2 nights as part of a tour. Nice hotel, nice rooms, except that the twin beds are narrow. Check for a room with seperate beds in this could be a problem. It was for us, but the management made arrangements very cheerfully, and added an extra in our room. Staff very friendly, service with a smile, and diner in the restaurant was good. Breakfast buffet excellent.

If you are travelling to Namaqualand to view the flowers, then a stay over at Vergelegen Guesthouse should be an absolute must on your itinerary!
After a long drive, what more could one ask for than: A warm friendly welcome; A clean, comfortable & lovely furnished room; and of course the BEST dining by far!
Slept like a King, ate like a King!
Vergelegen is a real Oasis - next time our stay will definitely be longer.

Room Tip: Our room was wonderful! Concerned travelers should perhaps inquire at Reception during check-in re n...

We stayed in Vergelegen on our way to watch the flowers in Namaqualand. After a long day of traveling, the food at Vergelegen was just wonderful, and the staffs were so friendly and attentive.

However, the standard of the rooms really vary in this place. Unfortunately we had one of the "shoebox" room. It (Room 12) was really small for two people, basic and no style at all. They could not even fit a closet in the room, they had to put it in the bathroom. Don't be deceive by the website, not all rooms are that great!

Location - Kakamas is great!
Service - Services was not very welcoming from Front Desk staff. However, restaurant and coffee shop staff was very helpful and friendly.
Restaurant - Feed is absolutely great! Tasty, excellent service and well priced. Best in the area by far!
Accommodation - Not so good. Although one can see it is 4 star - attention to detail was lacking. Carpets was dirty, lampshade's material was torn and the bathroom had grime at the basins. Also, there was no water in fridges and one of the rooms aircon unit did not work. Just lacking attention to detail. Otherwise it is a nice looking hotel. Bed mattresses was also old and uncomfortable.

Was we stay there again - probably not. Would we eat there again - MOST DEFINITELY!

Room Tip: Rooms close to fountain can suffer from noise and through traffic.

The restaurant is the reason to come to Vergelegen! Like lots of SA-Tourism-Board-Rated 4-star accommodation, the rooms and appearence and staff at this place are impeccable and tasteful and luxurious... but the food is like no other! Particularly in the rural towns of the Northern Cape. If I lived in Upington I would make the trip to Kakamas at least once a week just to eat here (that, and there's hardly any choice in nearby Upington)!
The staff were friendly, gracious, good-humoured, and genuinely happy to help. They even organised a babysitter from their staff to sit for our 2-year-old for a couple of hours so that we could have an "adult" dinner with our friends at the restaurant. Even though they don't bill this as a service on their website or advertisements, it's a prime example of how they are so willing to meet your every need.

If you love food as much as we do you'll know that sometimes it's very difficult finding such an establishment in out of the way places, especially in Kakamas! Vergelegen literally means a far location and this restaurant is situated far away on the way to the Augrabies waterfall in theNorthern Cape. We were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed a scrumptious luncheon there, we both opted for the house speciality which was oxtail casserole Served with crunchy fresh vegetables in season and "stamp mielies" another traditional side dish, dried corn cooked as one would prepare rice. We enjoyed the local Shiraz with our meal, which was an excellent pairing. The Greek salad starter could' ve come from my own kitchen, so the lettuce was crisp and sweet, the Rosa tomatoes plump and the feta smooth and creamy.we rounded our excellent meal off with delicious lemon cheesecake and an excellent to be recommended chilli ice cream and preserved local figs. Although we weren't staying over I did sneak a peak at the accommodations which looked very comfortable indeed and if needs be I'd happily stay over. The grounds are well maintained, the pool was sparkling and the overall look was very pleasing. Our waitress knew the menu she was bi-lingual (which was surprising in this neck of the woods as most locals speak Afrikaans,. Her recommendations were spot on.well done!
