Me and my now husband had our wedding here in July. The venue is beautiful and the manager and assistant manager are so obliging. A guest wanted a bottle of jagermister and they didn't have it but went out to purchase some. Very accomadating. Loved every minute of our day. Thankyou for making it so special. Would reccomend everyone to get married there.

We stopped here for 2 nights starting on the 25th/26th July. Very friendly staff, room very clean we had a superior room which was spacious and comfortable bed only problem was it was very hot, window did not open, asked if they supplied a fan which they do not, hence slept on top of the bed, saniflow toilet did make unusual noises but it did not spoil our sleep. Food excellent but service very slow, first night was not too bad the waitress said they were running late and it would be a 20min wait which was ok, the second night we waited over an hour with no explanation until we had to ask and got an apology then the food came out 5min later, this spoiled our night, breakfast cannot fault. Would go back again great base for getting around but would take a small fan with me and hope you hav`nt too long await for food if we decide to eat there.

We stayed here for a family wedding and what a lovely weekend it was. The hotel is small and personal with friendly staff. The room was lovely and well equipped. The wedding itself had been organised through the hotel and it was a really lovely function with good food.
The gardens are very pretty and the weather was great which added to the enjoyment of the whole occasion.
The breakfast was very good- service was a little slow but the hotel was full of family members for the wedding and there was only one lady on duty. She did her best and smiled throughout and it was pleasant sitting in the dining room so it didnt matter that we had to wait.
The only slight concern was that there was no lift available and my father who is 82 had a single room on the second floor. It was a long climb for him and they had no single rooms anywhere else.
Value for money, this place is great and we will definitely use it again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the church steeple which chimes every hour through the night!!

My mother and I used the Downe Arms as a base to visit family in Yorkshire. It exceeded all our expectations. The staff we met (receptionists, waiting staff, gardener, housekeeping) were friendly and effective. The hotel was comfortable, well maintained and spotlessly clean. The gardens are lovely. We ate there one night and enjoyed it. There were some lovely walks from the hotel, including a restored ice house close by.

We stayed at Downe Arms as a birthday present to my darling wife to see BLONDIE in concert at Dalby Forest. Weather and journey had been awful, tipping it down... still raining when we arrived. To our delight the Downe Arms was tastefully decorated, Beautiful village and location.Staff were very friendly, but always professional... personable as well.

Live music was on and what I heard upon our return sounded great. Did not join the fun in the bar as we were both shattered.

The room was lovely and spot on.. the bathroom was just simply well placed in a 5 star Hotel. The bathroom was very large and a lovely powers shower. The hot water took some persuading but if you let it run for ten minutes voila!! lovely and warm. I agree with previous reviewer Revbev69 that the toiletries were odd and really not up to the standard you would of expected, especially as it was such a nice bathroom.

Must admit my wife Sue nearly had a heart attack when the saniflo system suddenly burst into rather noisy life but once over the shock and hopefully not annoying our neighbours too much was okay.

The bed was delightful and even though the room was next to the very busy A170 it was great night sleep apart from when awoken by a dove which thought 03:35 AM was good time to call all other doves in North Yorkshire. The saniflo then decided to take it upon itself to join in. THe room has great TV and the biscuits were very good.

Breakfast was very pleasant and relaxed. I loved the fact that you did not get pestered all the time which seems to be the modern way. The Staff were again very friendly. The full English was superb... very good quality local produce and you could tell. I missed out on the black pudding... darn it.

Some Suggestions:

Breakfast - Could have been a little more portion size but that is the fact I loved it and wanted more. Juice was not the best... apart from that great and service was spot on.

ROOM - Great apart from the toiletries this was perfect. Oh more biscuits would always go down with me..lol!!!

RESTAURANT - Maybe look at the hours; food not served till18:00 hrs wich is great unless you have a concert which 50% of the guests were at. Would have loved to have eaten at the Hotel.

Please folks these are not critics but suggestions... that would give you an excellent rating.

I would definitely return and want to stay longer. Beautiful place. Good value and to all at the Downe Arms well done.

Room Tip: The Room we stayed in Room 207 great - Very comfortable.

We stayed at the Downe Arms last weekend to attend the Blondie concert at Dalby Forest and what a loverly choice it was. A very friendly welcome at reception which was followed up later on by the barman. The bar was very reasonably priced.
Our standard double room was clean and the bed extremely comfortable indeed. the supplied toiletries were questionable, not the finest smelling offerings and whoever chose them needs to question their sense of smell?!
The only other (minor) blip was the service at Breakfast which given the hotel was full, they could have done with an extra pair of hands. The Breakfast itself was very decent, definately take the optional black pudding!
The room rate was also very good value.
Finally they were preparing for a wedding during our stay and the wedding function room looked wonderful.

This is a very good hotel with a lovely atmosphere. We stayed in a superior room with a four poster bed and it was very clean and well presented. We decided to stay on the half board package and definitely were not disappointed with the quality and presentation of the food. The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We visited Filey on our way to the hotel and had fresh crab for lunch, then further on we had a wander along Forge Valley (Scarborough) which is great for a stroll as is it is boarded along for easy walking. On our second day we visited Peaseholme Park which is smashing for all family ages. We then jjumped onto an open topped bus (show your bus pass and you travel at half price,) this took us down onto Scarborough seafront as far as the Futurist Theatre. At the time of our visit there was a "History of pop pictures" exhibition at the Scarborough Art Gallery, well worth a visit for "children of the 60's." We had a very nice snack at Taylor's tea rooms in Bar Street later in the day which I would highly recommend. We would definitely like to stay at this hotel again.
