Owner description: INTRODUCTION Set overlooking the award winning Danson Park, this beautiful Grade I listed Palladian villa was officially re-opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II in July 2005. Built by Sir John Boyd in 1766 for his second wife Catherine Chapone, Danson House was originally designed by architect Sir Robert Taylor (who was also the architect of the Bank of England). In the twentieth century the house fell into an almost ruinous state. In 1995 English Heritage identified the house as 'the most significant building at risk in London', signalling the start of a decade of restoration. In 2005 the restored interior opened to the public for the first time in thirty years. REGISTER OFFICE Bexley's Register Office at Danson House Danson House is now the official Register Office for the London Borough of Bexley. Run by Kent County Council on behalf of the London Borough of Bexley, the stunning Grade I Georgian Villa now offers ceremonies including Weddings, Citizenship, Renewal of vows and Welcoming, notice of marriage appointments, nationality checking services and the registration of births and deaths. Plans are also underway for a new cafe, special events and the opportunity to hire function rooms within the house. The Register Office is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and can be contacted on the stated number for appointments and enquiries, or via email that has been stated. For more information regarding the Danson House Register Office please visit A Kentish Ceremony. From Monday 18 July onwards death registrations will also take place on the first floor of the Central Library in Bexleyheath every Monday and Wednesday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. HERITAGE TOURS Public opening times Whilst operating as the Borough's Register Office Danson House is also open to the public as a heritage attraction every Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Visitors are able to view the grand rooms on the principal floor as well as the Victorian basement kitchen equipped with historic kitchen items. For more information please contact the stated email address.

“An excellent place to visit”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Very helpful steward gave us chapter and verse on the history of this wonderful house and its history. It is difficult to believe that this georgian house had been allowed to degenerate almost to destruction. The oval staircase octagonal chinoiserie room and dining room are equally interesting. The second floor was less exciting and seemed of little interest other than the top of the oval staircase . . .

Nice cafe underneath

“Danson House and Park”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

Danson House is interesting and the volunteer that showed us round knew all the history of the house and answered all our questions. It is a shame that the house is only open Sunday-Thursday.There was a cafe but only for a set tea.
There are beautiful parks either side of Danson House, the walled garden is very restful for a picnic. The large lake had alot of green weed cover on it and there was a rather unpleasent smell. The 200 year old oak tree was amazing. We did not find a cafe or anywhere to buy a drink. We did however find an excellent American style diner near Bexley Heath Station.

“Lovely experience”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

I have visited Danson House twice now with family for a Sunday lunch and Christmas Dinner...
Both occassions were greeted warmly, staff are well groomed, well mannered and pretty quick on their feet.
The views from the restaurant of the park are wonderful.
The food is pretty average, but warm and there is plenty of it, help yourself after the chefs carves your requested meats.
The layout of the restaurant is good and they obviously cater for large parties. I will return one day.
