We stayed for 1 night. Its a fairly luxurious hotel, very modern and clean. There is nothing near by but I think the idea is to escape from it all. We were with a wedding party, the ceremony and the venue and meal were very good. There are fabulous views over the golf course from the bar, and Sky Sports is available in the bar which pleased the male guests as it was showing a prem game. The breakfast was excellent.
We didn't use any of the leisure facilities so cannot comment on them.

First off, Had a great stay at Castle Dargon.
Positive Side:
Staff were so welcoming and friendly and Reception Staff were very nice on Check-in and on Check-out.
The Food was nice did not eat a meal but had breakfast which was good and staff were nice too.
The room we got which was a top floor apartment next to the hotel car park was lovely and very spacious and clean!.
Negative Sides:
There was No Lifts in the Apartment Blocks just Stairs so you had to climb 3 long flights of stairs in order to get to the top floor! Not good if you have heavy baggage! They should install a Lift in the Apartments.
Found the heating hard to control BUT in fairness we rang Reception and they sent someone up straight away and they were very freindly and they sorted it straight away.

Overall we will be back but room for improvement Lift Access wise.

We booked in on a special two night deal, but were so dissapointed in the hotel we left after one night. Musty smell in hotel room, but we didn't complain as we were happy to get room in the hotel rather than the apartments as originally booked. We had some nice drinks by the fire but were less than impressed when we returned to the same spot two and half hours later to find all our empty glasses sitting waiting for us. Dinner was poor, except for the dessert which was lovely. I had a glass of wine with the meal which was part of the deal. When dinner was finished we left dining room with no sign of the one and only server. I had presumed the cost of the wine would have been added to our hotel bill. To our major embarassment the waiter followed us up to the rooms and asked us to come back to the dining room and pay for the drink. He explained that the IT system was down and he couldn't add it to room bill. It was our first night away as a couple in 2 years as we have young children, so we decided there and then we weren't staying the second night. We were happy to pay for our accomodation for one night and meals which would have come to 210 euro but the girl in reception insisted we pay the 240 for the two night deal. We were told that had we complained, that the hotel would have been able to rectify our problems. Unfortunately, the list of dissapointments had gone beyond the point where we would have been happy to take the chance. We were given a voucher for another night stay that my husband will use for business but i was most dissapointed with the customer service we experienced and all for the sake of 30 euro! Seems silly

Dear Aideen K,

I am disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us at the Four Star Castle Dargan Resort. I have spoken with our duty manager who did speak with you the following day. As explained at the time, we experienced some major technical difficulties which were out of our control and unfortunately we could not forward your drinks bill to your room that night.

I can only apologise and make you aware that this is not normal practice. We did offer to upgrade you for the second night and ensure you have an enjoyable Castle Dargan experience which you declined and accepted a complimentary voucher as way of apology for the inconvenience caused. We look forward to welcoming your husband back and can assure you of our best attention and hope to restore your faith in our resort.

Kind Regards,
Helen Duffy

just returned from an enjoyable two night stay. stayed in the hotel not an apartment and the room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. my wife and I had dinner in the restaurant on your first night and were very disappointed with our main courses, they both looked appetising but lacked flavour and my duck was rubbery, we ate elsewhere for the remained of our stay. the breakfast was not as good as some other reviews have made out, but was decent. I played golf and it is clear that the course would be excellent in fine weather but the course was close to unplayable due to the amount of surface water, this course should be avoided when the ground is soft, some greens are also diseased.
luckily there are a number of excellent links courses around and this hotel would make an excellent base. all the staff that we came I contact with were very friendly and helpful. they are a massive asset to this hotel.
overall we had a relaxing stay and had the food being to a better standard it would get 5 stars from me. look forward to returning to play the course in summer conditions.

Dear 99galway99,

Thank you for taking the time to review the four star Castle Dargan Resort. I am delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and found our accommodation luxurious and our staff team welcoming and helpful. We pride ourselves on excellent service so I will definitely be passing back your regards to our team.

It is great to hear you got to play our Darren Clarke designed course. I understand the weather was not ideal but to address your concerns I have spoken with our golf team and they assure me that the greens are not diseased. The black marks you may have seen is a treatment for moss and this can become discoloured when it is working. Our in house golf professional, Xavier Medas has asked me to invite you back to enjoy a complimentary round of golf during the summer to ensure you get the full enjoyment of our course and get a better feel for the place.

I spoke with our head chef, Mark Wiggs regarding your food and there being a lack of flavour. He is disappointed this was not raised at the time as our chef prides himself on top quality food with appetizing flavours. We hope that you will return to Castle Dargan and find that your experience is worthy of five stars upon your return with a top class meal being the deciding factor.

I thank you for taking the time to input this review. The Castle Dargan team would love the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to stay with us again.

Kind Regards,

Helen Duffy

17 male golfers enjoyed a brilliant weekend house in the walled garden apartments with superb dining in the main hotel and 2 rounds of golf on a magnificent golf course. i booked the group via Golfbreaks.com for a great deal and was not disappointed with the product. The hotel is modern, clean and very helpful staff and great barman Sean who looked after us until the wee small hours. Breakfast was everything you wanted and served to your table and the dinner was to die for, 1st class including steak as you like it at no extra cost. The only thing we found missing was some live music/entertainment maybe on Saturday night. Apartments were huge a we had one per two people. All 17 meet up the first night in one of apartments before going to bar. If you like/play golf then you have to play this course. It has so much to offer, fantastic greens and every hole a different challenge set in beautiful surroundings. Well done to all for adding to a great weekend. Will have to return.
