We recently spent 10 days in the Pemaquid area of coastal Maine. We based ourselves in New Harbor, just minutes from the Pemaquid Lighthouse which is open to the public. Locally, we ate at the Anchor Inn in Round Pond and found the food to be reasonably priced and excellent! Our living accomodations were in a private cottage which meant we had the opportunity to cook for ourselves which we frequently did. We bought lobster from the Round Pond Fisherman's Coop and other groceries from Riley's Store in New Harbor. That local store was very well stocked and prices were great! The next closest grocery store was 12 miles away, so that was a real benefit! We were there in corn season, so enjoyed buying local corn at stands along the way. We took day trips to the Boothbay Harbor area and ate at Red's more than once. They guarantee a whole lobster in each lobster roll. The lines may be long, but the food is great. It's in Wiscassett just before the bridge heading north. We enjoyed the flea market just north of Bath more than once and checked in at many of the antique places along the highways and byways. We also went to Popham Beach and walked to Fox Island at low tide. Most of the shore in mid-coast Maine is rocky and beautiful, but it was very nice to be able to walk on a beach too! We'll definitely be back!
